NIGHT FLIGHT
They’d all heard the woman’s voice. It had been firm and confident -- as if she had made a fateful decision and was now determined to see it through to the end no matter the cost to herself or even to them.
Annie and Darren – frightened of what they’d learned and what they knew was coming, could only stare at each other in disbelief as they fled toward the county road and to Mister Ellis’ place. Both were young and in great health and could run all night if they needed to, though knowing that fact wasn’t helping them deal with their growing fear.
“Come on, Darren!” Annie exhorted. She willed her feet to run faster.
“I’m here. I’m here! Just keep running, Annie!”
