SEEK BATTLE II
“Get down!”
Though harsh, Ellis’ whisper was still nearly inaudible. It brought all of them up just short of the county road. He still held the mystery woman’s upper arm in the iron grip of his free hand.
Annie, her brother Darren, and the woman they all had to protect knew not to say a word in response. There could be men waiting for them to step out into the road and give their position away, for one, or those same men could be lying in wait in the thickly forested woods just behind and ahead of them.
Luke knew they were still being pursued by at least several men, killers who were closing the gap on them pretty quickly. Or they had been until a moment ago, when what sounded like a heck of a firefight erupted in the woods just behind them.
