Chapter 30Gabe drove. I read the book. First, I opened it to the front to get a feel for how long she’d kept it. None of the pages had dates, though, so I had no idea. The back of the book had ten blank pages left. We still had two hours, so I returned to the beginning and skimmed. Half an hour later, we sat in the parking lot where we’d picked up the car. I closed the book and set it on my lap, not sure where to start. Mom had left out a lot of stuff she obviously already knew, which made figuring some of it hard.
