Chapter 5:Betrayal From Within

597 Words
Detective Amina Mustapha was dragged out of the room, her hands and feet still bound with rope. She struggled against her captors, but they were too strong. She was thrown into a dark, cramped cell, the door slamming shut behind her. Amina lay on the cold floor, her mind racing. She had to get out of there, and fast. She knew that Ahmed Al-Razi would stop at nothing to keep his secrets safe, and she was now a liability. As she tried to free herself from the rope, Amina heard the sound of footsteps approaching. The door creaked open, and a figure slipped inside. "Who's there?" Amina asked, her voice low. The figure didn't respond, but instead began to work on the ropes binding Amina's hands. "What are you doing?" Amina asked, her voice barely above a whisper. "Shh, Detective," the figure said, his voice low and familiar. "I'm here to help you." Amina's eyes widened as she recognized the voice. It was Alex Okafor, her former partner. "Alex, what are you doing here?" Amina asked, her voice urgent. "I've been working undercover, Amina," Alex said, his voice low. "I've been trying to get close to Al-Razi for months, trying to uncover the evidence we need to take him down." Amina's mind was reeling. She had trusted Alex with her life, and he had been working undercover the whole time? "Why didn't you tell me?" Amina asked, her voice hurt. "I couldn't risk it, Amina," Alex said, his voice sincere. "I knew you were getting close to the truth, and I had to protect you." Amina's eyes narrowed. "You're not here to help me out of the goodness of your heart, Alex. What do you want?" Alex hesitated, his eyes flicking to the door. "I want to take down Al-Razi, Amina. And I need your help to do it." Amina's eyes locked onto Alex's. "What do you have?" Alex pulled out a small USB drive from his pocket. "I have evidence of Al-Razi's dealings, Amina. Evidence that will put him away for life." Amina's heart skipped a beat. This was it. This was the break they needed. "Let's do it," Amina said, her voice firm. Alex nodded, and together they made their way out of the cell. They moved stealthily through the corridors, avoiding Al-Razi's men. As they reached the exit, Amina's phone buzzed in her pocket. She pulled it out, her eyes scanning the screen. It was a message from an unknown number. "You're not going to make it out of here alive, Detective." Amina's heart sank. They were running out of time. "Alex, we have to go," Amina said, her voice urgent. Alex nodded, and together they made a run for it. They burst through the doors, into the bright sunlight. They were greeted by a group of police officers, their guns drawn. "Ahmed Al-Razi, you're under arrest," one of the officers said, his voice firm. Amina's eyes widened as Ahmed Al-Razi was handcuffed and taken away. It was over. They had done it. As Amina watched Al-Razi being taken away, she felt a sense of satisfaction. Justice had been served. But as she turned to Alex, she couldn't shake off the feeling that this wasn't over yet. "Alex, what about Fatima?" Amina asked, her voice low. Alex's expression was grim. "I'll make sure she's safe, Amina. You have my word." Amina nodded, her eyes locked onto Alex's. She trusted him. But as she turned to leave, she couldn't shake off the feeling that she was walking into something much bigger than she could handle.
