Chapter 12 - Narrow escape

As he bent down to check the chimney, A cat suddenly ran out almost hitting him,

Then he managed to evade it quickly saying; “Owl, it was a pussycat. Ipkis,

did you bring a cat here? It has been it all along”. By the time he turned,

Doctor Hopkins was already falling asleep, but was awakened by a sudden

dashing out of the cat, who ran in the direction which Joana was hiding before

She went up the chimney, then Ipkis quickly got up, and attempted to chase it

away, answering his dad; No I didn’t!, but let us get it immediately. He did

this, so his father wouldn’t perceive her presence getting there.

Then Ekroff with precision, caught it and took it out of the house, as he came back.

Into the house, he said:

(Ekroff) “Maybe you have got a hole somewhere. We might have to check that so we

can seal it up. I saw you get up just now. It means you are getting better”.

Ipkis, I think I have got to go right now, I have to attend a meeting later at

1:00 Am today and my wife must be sick of waiting for me”.

(Ipkis) “It is ok Dad, I will be alright. I think that Doctor Hopkins is staying back,

see! He is already falling asleep already, I have to ask him to stay in one of

the rooms”, Doctor! Doctor! As he called out to the Doctor.

(Doctor Hopkins) “Yes Ipkis, you need my help?” I was asleep, and he stuttered and

Stretched while getting up. Then he said to the doctor “My dad is about to

leave”, he said “Oh Sir Ekroff, let me see you off then”, as he walked him out

to his car, then he left. Immediately, Ipkis got up and called Joana and she

came out of the Chimney place, all dirty and tired.

(Ipkis) “Would you go clean up Joana? I think you need to freshen up you know. I am so

sorry for the stress my father's presence has caused you. It just came you know

and it was impromptu.

(Joana) “What are you sorry for? Come off it, it’s nothing and I totally understand

everything, it was no one’s fault. But let me get to the bathroom, I will go

clean up so we can rest.

It was 6:00 AM the following day, then Ipkis phone rang and he picked up, it was

the manager in the mine who had called, to report an ongoing fire incidence. So

he quickly bounced up and put on his dress and while he got ready, Joana and

Doctor Hopkins were already up too, Ipkis’ movement created noises which woke

them up. As Ipkis walked towards the table to get his car keys as the doctor

and Joana watched him succumb to pressure.

(Joana) “Won’t you say anything, you looked so worried are you are hurriedly going to

leave us here without saying a word. What is going on, kindly tell us about it,

what is going on please? As he moves away from the chair, he bumps into the leg

of the stool beside him and screams out loud and right then, they rushed to get

him to seat.

(Ipkis) “My Legs, the mine is on fire and I have to get there”. And Joana smiles, while

she managed to grab his legs and helps him with a massage, then she said; “I

thought you didn’t want to speak, kindly ask them to call the fire service, you

are not exactly that right, and would you be able to quench the fire even if

you go?” then he says, at least I have to be there okay.

(Joana) “But your leg is sprained, let me help you first, then we see what will happen

after that?”

(Doctor Hopkins) “Excuse me Joana, let me see that, is that the sprained feet, let me

help him out”. Then Joana allows him, as he applied some ointment on his leg

and then puts a bandage on him, Joana gets Ipkis Phone and gives it to him,

then asks him to call them at the mine and tell them what to do.

Ipkis then calls the manager, instructed them to move all the explosives from there,

as well as make sure they had called the Fire service to help them curtail the

fire, meanwhile there was a war between werewolves in town and a new Pack of

Werewolves had just relocated from another city outside of Anakoz. They had

dark powers and were hunters of Agelons. Ekroff could not tell Ipkis about him,

to protect him from the ongoing war. These new breed in town was the reason he

had to leave the previous day for the meeting at the odd hour. Then the Doctor

excused himself and left them, having stayed there for two days.

(Doctor Hopkins) “I will have to go, I need to actually go and prepare for work, I

haven’t been able to see my patients for two days and we will have to continue

to decipher the werewolf book, when next I come over. Kindly excuse me please,

I have to go now, so I can take a proper rest and prepare for work too, you

have a great day, okay and please take good care of him”.

Then Ekroff called Ipkis to tell him not to go out, that there was an ongoing war

between werewolves and that he must not be out in town, when Ipkis tried to

tell him not to worry, that he had to get to the factory to inspect the damage,

he sternly warned him, saying; “This is different Ipkis”. Then Joana made her

way to call the Doctor outside to inform him, he had already driven off, so

they resulted to calling him. He was given several missed calls, but he didn’t

even hear that his phone was ringing. It was in his brief case and so, didn’t

hear as he drove off. Ipkis and Joana were so worried about him, that they

wondered if he ever got him safely.

Then Joana heard a sound from around the house, she was sensitive to know that were

Wolves were crawling all over the place and didn’t know how she could fight

them, then she said to Ipkis;

(Joana) “Ipkis, I think I have to tell you this, there are a lot of werewolves crawling

all over the place, this war seems to be a very serious one this time around,

what do we do now?”, then Ipkis said; “I might have to call for help from my

father, but I don’t know how to do that without exposing you”.

Then he picks his phone after a while and says; “I will have to do it, so they don’t

rip our hearts”. So he got his phone and called his father, who was unable to

pick his call. He was busy keeping the area secure from intrusion. He tried to

reach out a couple of times, but to no avail.

After a while, Ekroff called him back, and said; “Are you alone or still with the

Doctor?” As Ipkis told him the doctor had left, he was devastated and began to

fear for Ipkis. He then told him to turn off the lights in the house. But he

affirmed that he had switched off their lights, before the Werewolves came

close.
