DYLAN'S POV

““Do everything you can to come up with evidence. I might have let Myra go on bail but do keep an eye on her and carry on with the investigations.” “Yes” Claire, the supervisor said and picked up the thick brown file from my desk. “You can leave now” “Thank you, sir” she said as she walked out. One million dollars might have been nothing to me but theft is something I will never tolerate. Myra looked too innocent to do such a thing but it still happened. That's why I never trusted people especially women. Innocent on the outside but deceitful on the inside, only after one thing, money. I've had too many soul crushing heartbreaks to even consider women a part of my workforce. I remember Leeona, the first girl I had ever loved. We were childhood friends and somehow made it to the altar but on my wedding night, I caught her in bed with my best friend. The second was Heather. Heather found me when my heart was broken and when I was about to give up on love. It was like a written love story, the way we met. We bumped into each other at the bar where I usually went to drink away my pain. Our drinks spilled all over us and on the ground. From apologizing and helping her clean up, we got to being friends and she was there for me and next thing I know, I was checking the city for the most expensive ring. I watched her walk up to me looking so glorious holding the hands of the gentleman dressed in a tuxedo. This same gentleman she told me was her brother. I would never forget those words. “Dylan…. you're a good man..you're every woman's dream…you're handsome, you're wealthy and most importantly, you're kind but Sanchez is the one I love. I'm sorry.” with fake tears in her deceitful eyes. I was so humiliated and depressed that I couldn't come outside for months. I thought I wouldn't make it. What about the woman who brought me to this world? My mother, Martha after giving birth to me, divorced my father and decided to leave me with him after he gave her a billion dollars as part of her settlement and she never called one day to know if I was still alive. Women to me were just mere objects. They're just there to be mistresses, after all, they're all after my wealth and nothing else. Then, I guessed treating them the way I was treated was nothing but a fair option. Myra Stevenson had just started working with us and with all the praises everyone sang of her, she still turned out to be a fake. To think that I was considering being closer to her. I checked my watch and it was 3:40pm. I quickly got my grey suit and swung it over my shoulder and left the office. My white Lamborghini was already parked waiting outside and I was walked towards the car, I could feel the stares and glares that came from all the females that worked with in my company. I knew they all wanted a taste, a chance to be acquainted with me and I also knew that they knew that was only going to happen in their wildest dreams. My personal assistant who was a female held my suit and the umbrella to protect me from the sun. “Here you go, siré. Do have a nice evening” “Remind Claire of what we spoke about” “Okay, sir” “Thank you” I wound up the window glass and gestured to my driver to get moving. In thirty minutes, I was already home. “Son, you're home?” my father said as I walked into the parlor. He sat on his chair with the maid standing next to him with a tray that held his ashtray, bottle of water and a bottle of white wine. “Yes” He dusted off the cigarette between his index and middle finger onto the ashtray and let out of a roll of smoke from his nose and mouth. Typical dad. I thought. Other relatives said he only started drinking and smoking after my mum left him. It was all her fault but it didn't matter now because I loved him despite his habits. He and my brother were the only family I had. “I heard that there was a loss at the company today.. is this true?” “Yeah, some girl at work stole some money. We don't have solid evidence yet but the money was left in her care so she's the only suspect. In fact, I'm sure she stole it” He sighed, more white smoke that matched his white moustache circling in the air. “I believe you've got this and I'm sure you know what you're doing and if she's innocent, I trust that you'll make sure she serves her punishment if she's guilty but if she's not, well….” he cleared his throat and dusted the cigarette again. What did he mean by “if she's not”? I was definitely sure that she stole the money. Who else could have done it? It was in her care and she was just believed that she deserved free money. Later that evening, after taking my shower, I stepped out of the bathroom to be with Lara, one of my employees who was also my mistress. She lay naked on my bed, covered with the duvet and her blonde hair spread out. I smiled as I approached the bed and she did too, like a vixen but then my phone rang. “Good evening, sir” “Good evening, Claire” I said and Lara was caressing my thighs. “ Yes, sir. I'm sorry to interrupt your free time but I got news for you…it's concerning Myra.” “Go ahead” “I have evidence tracing the money to her personal bank account” “Wow. So, she really did this?” “Well..I guess so, sir” “Okay, I'll meet you tomorrow. Don't let her know you have any evidence” “Okay, sir” I hung up and returned to the almost upset, Lara. “I'm sorry about the interruption” I said and crawled underneath the duvet pulling her body into mine. The next morning, I got up before she could and got dressed to leave but Lara still lay fast asleep.. I dropped a wad of cash on the bed next to her and dashed off. I arrived at my office and Claire and Myra were there sitted, waiting for me. “Good morning, sir” Claire and Myra got up to say simultaeneously. “Let's get to business” “Here it is” Claire handed me what seemed to Myra's bank statement. Myra looked at the both of us, obviously acting like she was confused. “How did you get this?” “It doesn't matter, sir. I'd always go to any extent to get the truth” I sighed and faced Myra. “Myra, how do you explain this?” I flung the paper in her face. She looked at it with tears in her eyes.
