What Started It All

*Jonathon POV* I can’t blame Hope for snitching. I won’t blame her. I did this, and I need to take responsibility for my actions. Even if it costs me my life. I wanted to speak up, but would it do any good? It’s obvious that the Beta wasn’t going to listen to me. He was barely listening to Hope, and as for our parents, he wouldn’t hear them out at all. As I heard her explain what she had heard me say, she had forgotten one thing. I was also protecting her. Sure, what the Alpha did to Connie was wrong, but when I confronted him, and he threatened to do the same thing to Hope, that’s when I decided to kill him. The words he said kept running through my head all day. “Yes, I took her innocence, and I’ll do the same to that sweet little sister of yours too. I’ll take her hard and rough, and ruin her for anyone else, including her mates”. That is what he said, and I knew he meant it. So, that night, after I had blown up and vented to my parents, I pretended to fall asleep on one of the sofas. When my parents went to their room, and I saw the light go out from under the door, I snuck out of the house, and made my way to Alpha Edward's quarters of the pack house. I waited for the lights to go out in the house, and when I felt the coast was clear, I picked the lock on the back door, and entered quietly. My hand immediately went to the handle of the gun as I moved through the house. I was shaking, but I couldn’t figure out if it was due to anger or fear. I had been inside the Alphas home many times. I had tutored his twins a year ago, and had honestly become close to Alpha Edward and his family. So finding out what a piece of garbage he was shook me to my core. I stood outside his bedroom, and I could hear him snoring through the door. I almost backed away and left, but my rage was controlling me to continue. The next thing I knew, I was standing over him as he slept. His Luna was soundly asleep next to him. Did she know what kind of man she was mated to? Did her sons know that their father hurt young girls for sport? It didn’t matter anymore, because in just a few seconds, they would be freed from him. I pulled out the gun I had taken from my father’s lock box in our garage, and pointed it at his forehead. I took a deep breath and started to count down from five. 5…4…3…2…BOOM! I pulled the trigger and fired the shot. Right into his head, killing him instantly. A startled Luna woke up and began to scream, and before she could get a good look at my face, I ran. I ran as fast as my legs could carry me. I could hear her screams in my head the whole way home. I couldn’t let the guards find the gun, so I buried it in the woods near our house, and covered it with some leaves. I stripped out of my clothes, and buried them a short distance from the firearm, and went into the house to shower. After my shower, I laid back on the sofa, and tried to sleep. My adrenaline had other plans. I guess it was for the best, because sleeping would just bring nightmares of what I had just done. I had been home less than an hour before the guards came pounding on our door. When we didn’t get to the door in time, they kicked it in. My parents came running from their room, and the guards immediately put them in cuffs. When they saw me on the sofa, they asked me if I was Jonathon Cole. When I confirmed that I was, I was jerked off of the couch and shackled. Although I knew why I was being arrested, I acted as if I didn’t. I began to protest and ask why I was being arrested. “What is going on? Why am I being arrested? Why are my parents being arrested?” I asked, and was met with a fist to the face demanding me to shut up. They asked if there was anyone else in the house, but all three of us kept quiet. There was no way in hell I was going to let them know Hope was in the house. It wasn’t until we were taken in front of the Beta that we were asked about her whereabouts. “Don’t you have a daughter, Mr. Cole? Hope, isn’t it?” the Beta asked. He had Gamma Gregory with him, so there was no use in lying. Gregory could detect deception, and the consequences of lying were as good as death. “Yes, sir,” my dad replied. The Beta asked where she was, and my dad gave her location. “Her room is in the attic of our home. Please, she doesn’t have anything to do with this. She doesn’t even know what is going on,” my father said. The Beta didn’t care. He ordered the guards to go and get Hope from her room, and told them to place her in the “closet”. I had heard them speak of this “closet” before while at the pack house. The “closet” was a place they would hold those they wanted to intimidate. It’s in the basement, and used to be an old chill cellar. Its main purpose was to hold food to be kept cold when there was no room in the main coolers. With it being colder outside, and winter coming, that room had to be colder than it normally is. I just hoped that she could handle what they were about to subject her to. The Beta kept me and my parents on our knees in front of the panel for nearly an hour before finally bringing Hope into the room. I could tell she was frightened, and guilt overwhelmed me. I had done this to her. When I heard my mother crying, I realized what I had done to my parents as well. At the end of it all, I was sentenced to death by firing squad. So were my parents. I don’t know why he decided to kill them, because they were just as innocent as Hope. I was thankful they at least spared her, but killing my parents was unnecessary. “Please, spare my parents. They didn’t do anything, and they had no idea I would follow through with how I felt. I’m guilty. I’ll take my punishment, but please, spare them and let my sister go,” I begged. When my father finally spoke to me, I couldn’t believe what he said. I wanted to argue with him, but I knew it was no use. “Son, I’ve lived a good life. If I die for telling the truth, then so be it. Corruption will always come to light, and in the end, their punishment will come. I love you, and I don’t blame you for this,” he said. I tried to reach out for his hand, but remembered my hands were bound. I hung my head as the guards lifted their rifles. “Please goddess, take care of her,” I whispered to the goddess. Now let’s just hope that she answers my prayer.
