So It Begins

*Hope POV* After I was shown where I would live from here on out, I couldn’t help but wonder what would happen to our home, and our things. Would the pack take it over, or would I be able to go back after I turned of age? Hell, did I even want to stay in this pack after what had happened today? So many questions, and no answers to be found anywhere. I wrapped myself in the scratchy blanket, and rested my head in my hands. I sobbed quietly, and prayed to the goddess to help me out of this predicament. A situation I didn’t put myself in. “Girl, lay down and get some rest. We all have to be up in two hours to prepare for breakfast and chores. Don’t get on people’s bad side the first ten minutes you are here. Trust me, you don’t want that,” another young girl whispered. I tried to pull myself together, and at least laid down to attempt to rest. Eventually, the sleep came, but just as fast as I drifted off, I was awoken by a terrible, blaring alarm. “Ah, you must be the new girl. Let me quickly go over the rules with you. My name is Juliet, I am the head Omega, if there is such a thing. I am in charge of everyone’s work duties. When we start in the morning, you will be given your work duty in writing. Your day ends when your tasks are complete. If you finish before dinner, you are still required to help with dinner and clean up. Our days don’t end just because you are finished. Some of us go until the Alpha, Beta and Gamma turn in for the night. As long as you follow the rules, things will go smoothly. Just stay focused, do what is on your list, and keep to yourself. Don’t speak unless spoken to, don’t stray from the list, and don’t slack on your work. Are we clear?” she asked. I nodded my head, and she took me to get a uniform. They didn’t have one small enough to fit me, so I had to wear one that was slightly bigger than I wore. She instructed me to stay clear of the Beta and Gamma, because they were sticklers for neatness. “Yes, ma’am. I understand. What do I do about how big this uniform is?” I asked. She smiled softly, and told me she would handle it until one came in to fit me. “They are sticklers, but before they say anything to you, they will come to me. I will handle it for you. After your fitted one is finished, you must keep it tidy and pressed. Listen, I know what happened to you, and why you are here. You got the s**t end of the deal, and I don’t agree with it. As long as you mind your Ps and Qs, I will do my best to keep their wrath off of you. Alright?” she asked. I nodded and thanked her. She sent me to change, and told me to hurry about it. The Omega’s breakfast time was nearly over, and she wanted me to make sure I ate. I apparently had a very long list today since I was working with someone else. I did as she said, and hurried and changed. The uniform was big, but not as large as I thought it would be even though it was a size bigger than I normally wore. As I sat down to eat, the girl next to me spit in my food. Stating that those who support killers don’t deserve to eat. When Juliet saw what she had done, I was brought another plate, and the girl was punished. Great. Thanks for putting a bigger target on my back. “Don’t let these guys get to you. Jasmine has been here as punishment for nearly two years. She was treated pretty poorly from the beginning, so she treats all the new people awfully. If you show her you aren’t bothered, she will leave you alone and move on,” a girl sitting across from me said. I nodded, and thanked her for telling me. I ate my eggs and bacon in silence, and started to put the small orange in my pocket for later. “I wouldn’t do that. It’s highly frowned upon and the higher ranked sees it as stealing. Don’t do anything to make matters worse. I’m Holly by the way. I know you are Jonathon’s sister, but I can’t remember your name. I’m sorry,” she smiled. I sat the orange on the plate, and slowly peeled it. I wanted to eat it, because I was still hungry. “Hope, my name is Hope. Jonathan is my brother, and I’m here because he murdered the Alpha. Even though I had no clue he did it, I was still sent down here. Thank you for helping me,” I whispered. Making eye contact with anyone was proving to be a challenge. Something I have never had a problem with before. However, when my eyes finally met hers, I could see how sympathetic she was being with me. “Listen, you are with me today. I’ll look out for you the best I can, but I can’t get myself into more s**t either. I only have two months before I can leave. I’ve been doing this since I was fourteen. I’m ready to go, and hopefully will be allowed to do something else in the pack, otherwise, I’ll move on. This is what you make of it. If you do your job, stay to yourself, you’re usually left alone. I just hope that’s the case for you considering why you were sent here,” she explained. I had always known that girls who got into trouble were sent to work in the pack kitchens and laundry as their punishment. However, I didn’t know that no matter what they did, they were required to stay until they turned eighteen. Even then, they weren’t sure if they would be permitted to leave and live normal lives again. “Thanks, Holly. I don’t plan on causing any trouble. However, I am worried about working in the kitchen. I have no idea how to cook,” I smiled. “Well, it’s a good thing that only the older women cook. When we are assigned to the kitchen, it’s usually to just take food out to the dining hall, and then we clean up. If one of the older women takes a liking to you, they will sometimes allow you to help cook, and they will teach you how to do it. I’ll be honest, Hope, because of the reason you are here, it might be a while before anyone takes a full liking to you. Especially if they respected Alpha Edward,” she replied. I knew that would be the case, and I just hoped that others would come to understand that I had nothing but respect for my elders, even if they were awful people.
