Chapter 8

1613 Words
Mira’s POV He threw me out of his mansion! Dave has the guts to do that to me. It was something I never saw coming. I thought he would touch me if he came back to see me naked on his bed. He didn't and I wondered why. The Dave Nelson I knew while growing up was obsessed with me. We had dated and broken up many times but we always found our way back to each other. Angry about how my plan was a total failure, I decided to hang out with the girls. They were a group of girls I was friends with from highschool. “Vee!” I cried out the minute one of them picked up my call. “What happened, Mira? Why are you crying?” Vee asked with an empathetic tone. “I will tell you in person. Where are you guys meeting up tonight?” I asked. I need some girl time to re-strategize. “We are going to our usual club tonight. Are you back in town?” She asked. “Yes—” I managed to say. Vee didn't let me finish, she started shouting in joy. “You are finally back! Wait till the girls find out. They are not going to believe it.” She squealed. “The queen is back!” When I heard Vee say the last line, I suddenly wished that was how excited Dave was to see me. “I can't wait to see you all soon.” I laughed before ending the call. Just like I expected, the girls were happy to see me. We were four in total; Mee, Vee, Tee and Dee. We were the most popular girls in highschool back then. I changed into a red mini dress before going to the club. The club was owned by Tee’s family. Her family owned a company that dealt with event planning and they pretty much owned most of the clubs and event centers in Nashville. She was the first person I sighted in the club. “ Tee!” I screamed as I rushed to her side. We hugged and kissed the air on both sides of our cheeks. “ Mee! It's so nice to see you, darling.” Tee said as she pulled away from me. “How was life in Paris? When you sent that picture of that French dude you were with, I wanted to come meet you there.” “ Why didn't you come? Don't answer that.” I stopped her before she could reply. “It doesn't matter now. I'm back.” “ What brought you back sweetie?” She asked and I gave her a look. She kept quiet. “Where are the girls?” I asked as I took a seat in our spot in the club. Tee sat beside me. “They're on their way. What would you like to take?” She asked, remaining polite as ever. “Martini would be nice.” I told her and she had a waiter bring four glasses of it. Just as the waiter served it on our table, Vee and Dee walked in. The minute they saw me, they started screaming and squealing. “Look who's back!” Vee hyped me up, her voice playful and light. “I am, baby girls!” I responded before they sat down. “You all are looking great.” The minute I threw the complement, Vee flipped her hair, Dee flaunted her nails. “Mira has something to tell us but first, let's toast to her return.” Vee raised her glass of martini to toast. Our glasses clicked and we drank. “Girl, Nashville hasn't been the same without you.” Vee said and the rest of the girls nodded in agreement. “I know right but let's get to the matter at hand. I need to know. What's been happening with Dave since I left?” I asked. “Dave Nelson?” Dee asked before saying. “ Nothing has been happening. From what I know, he has just been busy with his business lately.” I wasn't really concerned with what she said as she was usually the clueless one in the group. I looked at Vee, the mouthpiece of the group. Her family owned a television station, a very popular blog and podcast. There was hardly anything that happened that Vee didn't know about. “Vee, tell me.” I looked straight at her. She looked at me hesitantly. She knew something! “ Look! It might not be anything big, Mee. It's just that I heard from my mom that Cassidy showed up at a ball in town.” She said, “Here? Here in Nashville?” I asked, not understanding what could have brought her back to Nashville. After her marriage with Dave was destroyed, I thought she would keep hiding wherever she had been hiding for the past three years. “ Yes, Mee. Dave was in the ball too. That's not the crazy part. The crazy part is that she attended the ball with her son!” Vee spilled the beans. “What?” Everyone else said in unison. We were all shocked. “Did you know she was pregnant?” I asked Vee. “No, I didn't. I'm as surprised as you are right now.” Vee explained. “ Even my mom was surprised.” “Oh no. This is bad. What if that baby is Dave's child?” Dee gasped, oblivious to the tense mood in the group. “ I have to do something about it.” I muttered to myself. What Vee said explained why Dave had treated me the way he did. “ Yes and fast.” Vee concurred. “ I thought you and Dave were done. What about that French dude you were dating in Paris?” Tee asked, looking confused. “ He was obviously just a summer fling. Mira and Dave are soulmates.” Vee defended. “Besides…” I started, facing Tee with a glare. “...Dave didn't choose to marry that b***h. His family forced him to. If he was ever going to choose, it would have been me!” I strongly believed that. The entire table was silent but the background music was still on. People around us were still making noise and dancing. Tee shrugged her shoulders before saying. “With the way you left last time, I thought you And Dave were done. I didn't know you were still into him. The French dude you showed us is really cute, I thought you moved on.” Tee said, testing my patience but I smiled. That was the only way to gain control of myself and the situation. “ I haven't, Tee. Like Vee said, Dave and I are made for each other. Nobody knows him like I do.” I clearly stated before I finished my drink. “Another glass of martini.” I told a waiter passing by. “Get us all a refill, please.” Tee told the waiter. “So, what are you going to do, Mee?” Dee asked, her innocent face looking so confused. “I'm going to make sure Dave and Cassidy don't come back together. It's not like we are sure the child is Dave's. It could be any man's. That b***h is a w***e!” I said, gaining a few nods from my friends. “ I will just have to destroy her reputation so she'll run back to whatever hole she crawled out from.” “It's not going to be easy this time, Mee.” Vee informed him in a matter-of-fact tone. I wanted to snap at her but waited to listen to her, hoping she was driving to a valuable point. “ Why, Vee? You better come up with a good reason.” I said sternly. “ She inherited a company from PayTon group. It has been really successful over the years, almost competing with Nelson ltd. She was nominated last year as the best inspiration for women in business. A lot of people really love her.” The minute Vee said that, I hit my hand loudly on the table in front of us, startling everyone in the group. “Then, she has a lot to lose.” I told Vee before looking at every one of them. “People love to see other people fall rather than rise.” I tried to calm myself. “You all are going to help me.” It wasn't a request. They all knew that. Each of their family's company depended on my family's connection. “Hey, is that not Nova down there?” Dee said, subtly pointing to a guy at the far end of the club. I looked and saw that it was him. Dancing with a lot of girls, spraying the only thing he had in his empty life; money. Dave and Nova were good friends while growing up. Something happened between Dave and Nova and they stopped being friends and I was stuck in the middle. I contemplated asking Nova for help but I doubted he would help me. Besides, Nova was more interested in hurting Dave than helping me. “Yes, that's him.” I plainly said. “Are we not going to greet him?” Tee asked, earning a disapproving look from me. “He looks very occupied. Let's not disturb him.” I said. I was trying to get Dave back. At that moment, I felt that associating with Nova wouldn't help matters. Just while I was racking my head on how to deal with Cassidy, an idea surfaced in my mind.
