Chapter 13: A Fateful Detour
The journey to the Sunken Archives was supposed to be straightforward. Shu and Lian Hua, accompanied by Wen Zhao, the eccentric scholar, followed a well-trodden path through the Whispering Woods. But when Shu’s “luck” struck again, their plans went awry.
It started innocently enough. Shu stepped on a peculiar-looking mushroom that exploded into a cloud of bright pink spores. Lian Hua coughed, glaring at him as the spores settled on their clothes.
“Why must everything you touch turn into chaos?” she snapped.
Wen Zhao, however, was delighted. “Ah, the Laughing Fungi! A rare find! Unfortunately, its effects can be... unpredictable.”
“What effects?” Shu asked warily.
His answer came quickly when a nearby squirrel suddenly stood on its hind legs and began pirouetting like a ballerina.
“Great,” Lian Hua muttered. “We’re cursed.”
As they ventured deeper, the spores’ hallucinatory effects began to kick in. Shu swore he saw Lian Hua’s hair turn into wriggling snakes, while Lian Hua accused Shu of glowing like a firefly. Wen Zhao, completely unaffected, casually jotted down notes.

Chapter 14: The Mirthful Bandits
The trio stumbled upon a group of bandits. Under normal circumstances, this would’ve been a dangerous encounter. However, the Laughing Fungi had spread to the bandits' camp, turning them into a giggling, uncoordinated mess.
“Stop... right there!” the bandit leader wheezed between bouts of laughter. “Hand over... your valuables!”
Shu, still struggling with his glowing skin hallucination, blinked at the man. “Why is he wearing a chicken hat?”
“I think he’s serious,” Lian Hua said, her tone somewhere between amused and annoyed.
The bandit leader attempted to draw his sword but tripped over his own feet, landing face-first in a pile of mud. The rest of the bandits erupted into uncontrollable laughter, clutching their sides. Shu didn’t even need to fight them; they were too incapacitated by their own absurdity.
“See?” Shu said proudly. “Sometimes bad luck solves itself.”
Lian Hua rolled her eyes. “This isn’t your luck. It’s the mushrooms.”
