Chapter 15: The Sunken Archives
After finally shaking off the effects of the Laughing Fungi, they reached the Sunken Archives, an ancient structure partially submerged in a murky lake. Wen Zhao’s excitement was palpable.
“Legend says the archives hold the knowledge of gods!” he exclaimed, stepping into the water.
The group waded through the shallow lake, only for Shu to trip over an unseen root and faceplant into the water. When he resurfaced, he was clutching an ornately carved box.
“What’s this?” he asked, shaking mud off it.
“Probably cursed,” Lian Hua replied without hesitation.
Ignoring her, Shu opened the box, revealing a glowing orb inside. The moment he touched it, a booming voice filled the air:
“WHO DARES DISTURB MY SLUMBER?”
The water began to churn, and a massive serpent-like creature emerged, its glowing eyes fixed on Shu.
“Uh, I think I made a friend,” Shu said, trying to back away.
“That’s not a friend; that’s a death wish!” Lian Hua snapped, readying her sword.
The battle was chaotic. Shu’s rune activated unpredictably, summoning bursts of energy that only seemed to annoy the creature. Lian Hua’s attacks bounced harmlessly off its scales. Wen Zhao, meanwhile, was busy taking notes.
In the end, it was Shu’s infamous luck that saved them. A stray energy burst hit the serpent’s tail, sending it thrashing into a weakened pillar. The entire archive began to collapse, forcing the group to flee with the orb in tow.

Chapter 16: The Rune’s Revelation
Back at their camp, the orb glowed faintly in Shu’s hands. Wen Zhao examined it, his expression serious for once.
“This is a Celestial Core,” he said. “It’s said to be a fragment of the World God’s essence. Only someone with his bloodline can unlock its power.”
Before Shu could react, the core absorbed itself into his rune. A surge of memories flooded his mind—visions of the golden palace, battles against shadowy foes, and a sense of overwhelming responsibility.
“So… I’m definitely the World God’s heir?” Shu asked, half-expecting Wen Zhao to say no.
“Undoubtedly,” Wen Zhao confirmed.
“Well,” Shu said, “this explains a lot. Like why my life’s been a disaster.”
Lian Hua snorted. “You mean it wasn’t just you being clumsy?”
