Chapter 5: The Hidden Enemy
As Shu grew stronger, whispers of his lineage spread. Not all welcomed the return of the World God’s heir. A secretive sect, the Shadow Wraiths, saw him as a threat to their dominion over the cultivation world.
One evening, an assassin infiltrated the Pavilion, targeting Shu. The fight was chaotic, with Shu barely surviving. However, during the battle, his rune activated again, summoning a protective shield. The assassin fled, but Shu was shaken.
Master Tian revealed an ancient prophecy: "The World God’s heir will unite or destroy the realms. Your journey will test your will and heart." Shu realized his path was not just about finding answers but surviving forces that sought to erase him.
With renewed resolve, Shu vowed to embrace his destiny, no matter how perilous.
Chapter 6: The First Test
Days after the assassination attempt, Shu's resolve to grow stronger intensified. Master Tian decided it was time for Shu and the other disciples to face their first formal test—venturing into the Spirit Gorge, a perilous valley known to house wild spiritual beasts.
The task was to retrieve a rare Glimmer Orchid, a flower that grew near the valley’s deepest point. Each disciple had to bring one back as proof of their progress. For Shu, this was a chance to prove his worth.
Accompanied by Lian Hua and two other disciples, Shu ventured into the gorge. They encountered vicious creatures, from venomous spirit lizards to razor-feathered falcons. While the others relied on their training and cultivated techniques, Shu found his powers manifesting instinctively, though erratically.
At the heart of the gorge, the group stumbled upon a massive Rockhorn Beast guarding the Glimmer Orchids. Shu’s bad luck struck when he accidentally stepped on a twig, alerting the beast. It charged at them, its roar shaking the ground.
Despite the odds, Shu managed to immobilize the beast momentarily by summoning a glowing chain from his rune. The others used the opportunity to gather the orchids and escape. Though exhausted, Shu felt a sense of accomplishment.
