KAIA'S POV. I could hear the wolves before I saw them. Their howls cut through the night, almost chaotic. Some were warnings. Others sounded confused. None of them sounded like the calm, disciplined patrols I was used to. Thunder cracked far off in the distance, but I barely noticed. My heart was already hammering in my chest. Where was he?
