CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED NINE

1343 Words

KAIA’S POV The forest was quiet, still waking up. Cold air brushed my face as I ran, each breath leaving little clouds that faded away. I hadn’t stayed for him to wake up. I slipped out before sunrise, not wanting anyone to see me. The sun was already starting to come out and yet I was still here. But last night kept replaying in my head. Leander's arms pulling me close, his lips on my hair, that single word whispered like it meant everything. Mine. Even now my cheeks grew hot just from thinking about it. I let out a small laugh, shaking my head as I ducked under a branch. “i***t,” I muttered, not sure if I meant him or myself. The trees thinned, and sunlight slipped through. My chest rose and fell, but it wasn’t from being tired. A smile crept onto my lips before I could stop it.
