Goodbye

Elena Pov "I hope you like art," Calvin said. His voice broke me out of my own thoughts. I was still thinking there was something I wasn't remembering. I couldn't really remember what it was though. It was driving me crazy. Calvin had taken me out to eat at another fancy restaurant and then brought me to an art show in the city. It was nice. I liked seeing the different paintings and sculptures. Calvin was holding my hand the entire time. I didn't pull it away but it did feel strange. I didn't get any nervous or butterflies in my stomach feeling when I was with Calvin. I had never been in love but something in my heart told me what I should be feeling but this wasn't it. "So, what about this one?" Calvin asked. We were discussing the pieces and I told him what I thought. I actually thought a nice date outside would have been better. "Come on, let's go upstairs," Calvin said as he kissed my cheek. It took me by surprise. I smiled slightly as to not offend him but I didn't want it to happen again. I kept having battles with my inner thoughts. I didn't want to be rude but I felt no connection. I wanted to give him a chance because he was nice but I didn't want to fall for him. I hated that I kept saying that to myself. What was wrong with me? I had a really good guy wanting to be with me. Why couldn't I be happy about that? "Are you enjoying yourself?" Calvin asked. "Yeah, this is nice," I said. "It is," "So, which is your favorite?" Calvin asked me. "I think I like this one the most," I told him. "The persistence of memory," Calvin said. "By Salvador Dali." "Yeah, it is strange but so unique and interesting," I told him. "Feels like a dream." We made it back to my place. I decided to have some ice cream and talk for a minute or two. "I really don't like ice cream," Calvin said. I furrowed my brows. "Oh," "Yeah, I mean, it's not the healthiest," he said. I didn't reply. I figured I would just drop it. "So, I have been having such a great time with you these two nights," Calvin said. "I would really like to be closer and maybe." "Are you okay?" he asked. I felt the tear fall from my eye to my cheek. "Um," "Elena," he said softly. "I'm sorry if I said anything." "No, no, I am just. I was just thinking about something else," I lied. I didn't know why I started crying. "I would love that." I tried to smile as I wiped away my tears. "Really," he said cheerfully. "Yeah," he came closer to me and cupped my face. His thumb brushed my lower lip. He kissed me softly. I kissed him back once but stopped. He stopped the kiss a few seconds after. "I will make you happy," he said. I smiled as best I could. I grabbed our plates and began to stand up. "Let me help you with that," Calvin said. He tried to stand up but he stubbed his toe on the coffee table. "Ouch." He leaned back and knocked something off the fireplace shelf. "What is that?" I asked. "Um, a box. A ring box," Calvin said. He opened it slowly. I held my breath. I saw it and exhaled. "No," I grabbed it from him and looked at it. "I know this, where do I know this from," I told myself. The memories were slowly flooding my mind. The wolf I met and spent my days talking to. The blonde-haired, blue-eyed man that I had met at the cafe. His smile and his charm. Everything was coming back to me. "Elena!" Calvin shouted. I ran outside and looked around. "LUCAS!" I called out. I ran deeper into the woods. I saw him. The wolf. He was resting on the grass. He looked weak and his eyes were barely open. I ran towards him and dropped to my knees. "Lucas, change back, please," "Get away from that, Elena," Calvin said. "No, please. He needs help," I said to Calvin. "He could bite you or worse," Calvin said. He pulled out his phone. "Lucas," I cried. The wolf looked me in the eyes and slowly his eyes closed. "Lucas," I said his name so quietly, I don't think anyone actually heard me. "Elena, come here," Calvin tried to pick me up. "No, leave me," I said harshly. "He needs to open his eyes." "I think he is gone," Calvin said. "No, he can't be. He said he would protect me and be with me always. He said he loved me and he promised. Open your eyes, Lucas, please." "Elena," "PLEASE!" Calvin stood me up and dragged me away. "No, stop. We have to help him." "Elena, he is gone," "No! I can't leave him. He can't be gone, he didn't even say goodbye." "Elena, stop it. He is gone. I am taking you home now let's go," "Please, don't," Calvin took me home. My gran was waiting for me by my front door. "Come here, honey," "Gran, please, I need to help him," "It's too late, he's gone. I'm sorry," I cried on her shoulder. She caressed my hair and patted the top of my head. "Please, don't go," I whispered. Gran took me to my room. I laid down on my bed and cried myself to sleep. I had a dream about him. The wolf that would always come to see me. He was standing outside my house. I went towards him but he began to run away. "No, stop!" I shouted. I ran and ran after him but I could never catch him. "LUCAS!" "COME BACK!" "I NEED YOU!" "I NEED YOU TO STAY WITH ME!" "I, I, I love you," "Please," "I didn't even get to say goodbye." "DON'T GO!"
