“I’m not going again!” Mark shouted followed by total silence as Ariana looked at her boyfriend. She was surprised at his attitude and she said, “What…? What have I done again? Are you for real? We both agreed to go and have fun. We also talked about this matter yesterday on the phone and you agreed, and I have started processing my leave.” She paused and her face filled with worry and before she could say something in addition, Mark interrupted, “I said I am no longer interested again,” he was looking outside the house through his sitting room window while standing. “What have I not done right? She thought and moved a step closer to him. “Okay! Please, be frank with me. Don’t you want us to go to my friend’s city or where do you want us to go? I have already told you that I am the one responsible for all the expenses including the flight tickets, what you want to wear, I will buy everything for you and the hotel… What… What have I done wrong this time?” Her voice was close to tears. “Just tell me, what do you want? Do you want us to enjoy our vacation here or where do you want it?” She asked. Mark was occasionally turning his face and looking at the front of his house. “Why are you still standing close to the window? I thought you were waiting for me. I am sorry.” There was so much emotion in her voice, but Mark did not respond. There was anger on his face out of nowhere and his facial expressions showed he wasn’t interested in what Ariana was saying. “I know… I am sorry to say this, but sometimes I just need to agree with you. I pay most of your bills and you might feel somehow. I understand,” she lowered her voice again. “I’m doing this all because of love and I promise to look for a better job for you so that you can take care of these things yourself. I want to show to my friends that, it’s not what they are thinking, that you are. I am the one closer to you and I know you better than them. They might call you a loser, but in my eyes, you are the man of my heart. I can’t live without you.” Mark was still occasionally looking outside when suddenly, they both heard the sound of a car stopping in front of Mark’s house. They turned and saw a young lady coming out of the back seat. She was putting on a sexy purple gown and as she walked closer, Ariana was able to recognize her. “Is that not the daughter of your boss? The one you drive at work?” When Mark didn’t say anything, she continued, “What is she doing here?” Ariana quickly looked at her wrist watch and the time was 6:20 pm. “I told you not to come, but you refused,” Mark said. “Why didn’t you tell me you have official work?” She quickly said before the lady opened the door. “Hi Violet,” Mark suddenly changed his countenance and lovingly stepped forward and embraced her. Ariana didn’t react at first. She thought it was their thought-provoking way of greeting each other and she was prepared to tell Mark when Violet had gone that she didn’t like the way he greeted her. “Are you set?” She smirked and before Mark could say a word, she turned and looked at Ariana who was watching. “Is this your sister you told me about?” “Sister?” Ariana thought, but waited to see her boyfriend’s response. “Yes, she is,” and Mark held Violet closer to himself and sneered. “Mark?! Are you out of your mind?! You called me your sister in front of another woman? Are you cheating on me?” Both Mark and Violet didn’t consider her words seriously and they just faced each other and kissed, then Violet chuckled as Mark touched her seductively. “Come let’s go. I have been waiting for you.” “I’m sorry! I wanted to look good to your eyes,” and she flaunted her body as if Ariana was not there. Mark placed his right hand on her waist and they walked towards the door. The shock and pain was too much for Ariana and hot tears came out of her eyes. This was someone, she deliberately cut her salary into two and gave one part because his job was of a low income. And sometimes, she gave a larger portion of her salary to him to buy whatever he wanted just to make him happy. “Excuse me young woman, you are not as smart as you think.” Her words halted both Mark and Violet at the door post and they turned back. “Mark is my boyfriend, we have been dating for so long. You can’t just come into our lives and take him away.” Violet wanted to say something, but Mark stopped her and said, “Leave the situation for me, let me handle it.” He turned his eyes on Ariana. “Ariana, I have been looking for a way to end our relationship. This is the best possible way I can. To hell with your virginity and your so-called moral standards.” “It means all my efforts to turn this asshole into a responsible person, all failed,” she thought and turned her attention to the lady standing with Mark. “For your information, this asshole here, will still leave you. There is nothing I have not done for him.” “I’m sorry,” Violet raised her eyebrows and added, “he rides me during the day and I ride him at night.” Both Mark and Violet giggled out of the house. Their last gesture was more painful to Ariana at that moment than the heartbreak. She stood still as if there was no blood flowing in her body, as she looked at both of them entering the back seat of the car, and her feet were unable to move. Mark’s handsomeness and height attracted her to him when he was coming after her. Despite the advice from some of her friends, she thought she could change him and make him a better person. When Ariana came out of the house, and was still standing at the doorpost, her phone rang. She cleaned her tears and cleared her throat, but to her surprise, it was Mark who was calling. Moved by curiosity, she picked up the call. “Please, I was in a rush and I didn’t lock the door. Help me to lock the door and put the key in its usual place.” And before he could conclude, Ariana had hung up the call. She stood for some seconds and turned to lock the door, after turning the key twice to the right, she pulled the key out of the door. Then she walked three steps away from the door and threw the key on top of the roof. “That’s the new place,” she thought and walked away.
