Chapter 8

1166 Words
"Inez!!" I hear my mom's voice call from downstairs. I groan to myself and roll out of my comfortable bed. It's 8 am on Saturday. "Inez!!" She calls again. "I'm up!" I yell back. The kitchen door opens and closes, the sound of her preparing breakfast. I head to the bathroom and start the shower. The hot water loosens my strained muscles. I hurry and wash my hair and body. I wrap the towel around my wet body. My mother calls my name again. I ignore her. "Inez!!" "I'm coming down now. Please don't call my name again". I yell as I walk down the stairs. My phone buzz as I stretch a little. I check who the message is from and it illuminates Denise's name at the top of my screen. She asks if I will be attending the Chase match today at school. I turn my phone off and drag my lazy ass to the kitchen. "Here," Mom says as she drops a plate of scrambled eggs in front of me. "What are you doing today?" She asks. I remind her that I will be going to the Council Region to get more information on the Wendigo. "It's too risky to go there alone." She says as she drops a cup of water in front of me. "I'm the chosen one, I can't be harmed mom so don't worry," I assure her. She shakes her head and sighs. "The Wendigo is dangerous and it's still out there. The barrier isn't strong anymore and more creatures will find their way into this world and do anything to find you." "I will be a fine mother...I will be home early, I promise. No snooping around." ~~~ It's my first time in the council lair. I walk through into an immensely hectic, planned office. It's predominantly white. Like the reception area with ancient styled black columns reaching up to the high ceiling. There is a babble of noise as people in white suits rush around talking into headsets. A man strides through them, looking once over his shoulder and raising his eyebrows at me. I recognize him. He is the head of the council, that came to my house the other day. I shake my head to myself and follow him along a walkway between the rows of computers. As we walked forward I noticed several monitors hanging on the walls. I focus my gaze back on that old man, who has now reached the door to a glass-walled office. He opens it and gestures that I should go inside. "Take a seat, Miss Sivan." He says. His tone of voice is cold. I glare at him and walk inside, sitting down in a black armchair facing the desk. He closes the door then takes a seat in front of me. He sighs heavily. "I didn't expect you to come here." He says, shaking his head. "Ah..." I reply dryly "I came here to know more about the wendigo and yes, Arden told me that the barrel isn't strong anymore. I wanna help." He shakes his head. "You can't do anything for now. You have to stay safe or it will be over if they find you." I look at him angrily. "You said I am the chosen one, then I need to help, at least I have to do something." He stares at me. "If you want to help, then." He sighs again. " it's really difficult, what's I'm about to say." "What is it?" I raise an eyebrow. "I'd bet your parents haven't told you yet." "About?" I ask. He pauses. I stare at him. Nonplussed. What is he talking about? "You have to have a taste of blood before the end of this month. I know it's a hard thing to do but you have no choice." I roll my eyes. "Is this some kind of joke?" The old man shakes his head slowly. "If you don't, then you die...you of all people should know how painful it is when your fangs are hungry for blood. You have to feed it or it's gonna kill you." "I can't drink blood__I might not be able to control blood lust," I say. "We will be here to help you. The blood will make you stronger. If you want to save the world then you have to be strong." I look at him for too long then swallow. "I wanna know more about the Wendigo." I change the topic. "Okay." He says. He brings a big book out of the drawer and hands it over to me. " This is the book of Supernaturals. Only you can read it since you are chosen. You will know more about what you are looking for init." "Thank you," I say as I stand up to leave the room. "Remember Miss Sivan, remaining ten days till the month ends. You decide if you want to live or die. It's your choice." ~~~ The minute I get home, my phone buzz and it's from Chase. He ask why he didn't see me at his game. I ignored him and entered my room. I heard someone knock on my window. I checked and it's Chase. He is here again. I close my window and ignore him then he keeps calling my name. My parents must not know he's there or I'll get grounded. I open my window and let him in. "I called you five times yesterday...why didn't you pick up?" He asks. "I was busy." Truth is, I went to see him at the movies and saw him going inside with Jada. "At least, you could have reply my text...the one I sent five minutes ago." "Look Chase...please leave, my parents will kill me if they see you here." "I won't, not until you tell me how you feel." He says calmly as he walks closer to me. "You are driving me nuts, Inez." "You really wanna know how I feel?" "Yes, I do." I inhale and exhale heavily. "I came to the movies last night." "Why didn't you tell me?" He asks as he places his hands on my face. "I saw you go inside with Jada... Are you back together with her?" I ask. "No, it's all a misunderstanding Inez, I am not going back to Jada. It's you I want." "I don't want you, Chase. Please, you need to leave." The thought of me saving many lives if I don't get involved with him came to me. "I don't like you, Chase, I don't like you." I lie even though all I want is for him to be right there with me. He removes his hands from my face and lick his lower lips. "Cool, I will go now." He says as he heads towards the window. I watch Chase leave and sit on my bed. I inhale deeply as I open the book of Supernaturals. Please don't forget to vote and comment
