Chapter one
Its early morning when Purity wakes up to a sunny day. She smiles at sight of the suns ray and wakes up to open the window and she begins to start the day. Just as she is lost in thought of what possibly her day could bring she hears her mother Betty shout at the top of her lungs demanding the girls to get up and start the day.
Purity is 13 years of age. She has light brown skin , round face , a very sweet voice and is short in height about 1.5 metres plus. She lives in her home with her two siblings Bunny who is younger than her doing grade 4 and Pearl her older sister aged 21 and their mom Betty and dad Peter. They live in a cosy three bedroom home in the south of Africa and are an average family so they could afford a comfortable life.
She is immediately irritated by her mom's scream, so after opening the window she makes her bed and then her way out to the bathroom where she washed her and brushes her teeth. Purity shares a room with her big sister Pearl, they seem the get along quite well. On the smallest room in the house is the youngest sister who is quite arrogant and on the main bedroom of course the parents.
Purity then makes her way to the kitchen "morning mom" she says quietly. Betty bursts out lashing at her asking why had dirty dishes spent the night in her kitchen. Purity irritably answers that it was not her turn and that Bunny should be the one to answer that question. In anger her mom punishes her and commands that she does the dishes immediately and threatens she would not have breakfast before doing so. Purity gives her mom a deep look of hatred and gets to it as 'her highness' has commanded. While she washes the dishes she is deep in thought,
"i hate this place, i wish we don't have school holidays during the year so one can spend the whole year away from the hell hole" she gets teary from the anger she currently feels and has wished for some time she would be away from her home much longer than 2 and a half months. She was home after the first school quarter and is not very happy to be in this house. She and her mom do not get along because she feels her mom has anger issues from being ill-treated by their dad and feels she is always the one to bear the brunt because well, Purity has no filters. s**t is s**t, wrong is wrong and wastes no time in saying it verbally or via facial expression when she experiences or comes across an unfair situation.
The day progresses and Purity is deep in thought as always when she is asked to look for the frying pan. She bluntly requests that Bunny be asked as she wouldn't know where to look for cooking material except where it should be on the stand or cupboard which it was not found by Betty when she checked before making lunch.
Betty enjoys picking on Purity because she feels she has a big mouth and needs to be taught a lesson. Purity feels like an outcast in this family and despises being with them but what can she do at her age. She cannot risk running away and becoming a rogue at a young age but has decided to make her life with this family bearable by enrolling into a boarding school so she could see less of them in a year until she finishes school and gives herself the best life.
Peter on the other hand, the father has a great relationship with Purity. We can say she loved her dad unconditionally and believed he was stuck in a loveless marriage with her mom. Peter worked a 12 hour shift 6am to 6pm or vice versa so was seldom home because he was the sole provider in the house. Purity pitied her dad but the bond they shared was important to purity as it kept her going.
