CHAPTER 23
Douglas waited anxiously for Veronica to enter through the kitchen door. His coffee was already cold, and he had not yet taken a single sip. He was too apprehensive and she was not helping him at all with her delay. When he heard a discreet walk approaching, he took the cup to his mouth slowly. The cold liquid did not please him, but he pretended to taste it as soon as she entered and sat down in front of him. The maid who had been watching Douglas for some time approached and poured some of the steaming drink for her who thanked her discreetly. After serving her, the lady left them alone. She knew they had something to work on and she didn"t want to get in their way.
"How did you spend the night? Didn"t you notice anything unusual after I left?" - Douglas asked without a brea
