Unexpected Visitor

Elise's POV I was in the living room with my daughter, watching the television. A cartoon was being shown but I did not mind watching it because most of my younger days were spent working. I hardly had time to watch television even as a kid; My parents were always against me wasting my time with such things. Father always insisted that I do the chores with Mother and assist her instead of lazing around. My parents never understood what it meant for a kid to have fun sometimes. I couldn't do the same to Natalie, so I allowed her to watch the television but there were limits set in place and she knew them very well. I also spend time with her because I work regularly and she only has her toys to play with. She wasn't going to school but was being homeschooled because of my hidden identity. Natalie was a smart and intelligent girl but she was still a child and children were never good at keeping secrets. "Mommy, Janet is going to school." She said, pointing at a cartoon character on the television. "Yes, she is." I nodded with a smile on my lips. "Then why can't I go to school?" Natalie asked, Pursing her lips at me. I sighed and had to explain things to her again. "I told you that Mommy's identity is a secret—" "I know." She raised her little voice that sounded a little cracked. "You've told me your reasons but I'm not a baby anymore. I can keep a secret. Some things have happened to me that you know nothing about." My eyes widened in worry as I heard my daughter's words. Why would she keep secrets at such a young age? Has something terrible happened to her and I was too busy to realize it? "What secrets?" I asked and reached for her hands. "Sweetie, what are you hiding from me?" "I can't tell you because it would no longer be a secret." She replied intelligently and averted my gaze. I should be proud of her for being so brilliant but I couldn't shake off this concerned feeling. "Speak to me…" I whispered and caressed her little hands with my thumb. "If you tell me then I'm gonna buy you chocolates." "I refuse. You can't use snacks to get the truth out of me even if you use force. I'm still going to keep quiet." She said, giving me cold shoulders. She was acting like her father, so mysterious. "Natalie, enough of the jokes. Tell me what you're hiding." I uttered, my voice firm and my eyes free of its playfulness. Natalie looked at me and sighed. "I'm not hiding anything. I just wanted to show you how good I am at keeping secrets. No one will ever know your real identity. I promise." I stared at my daughter and couldn't help but admire her. At such a young age, she was wise and loyal. She wasn't supposed to find out about my hidden identity stuff but she kept seeing masks in my room and began asking questions. One day, she decided to ask her private teacher and she told her everything. Though that tutor was on a contract to never reveal my identity or occupation, she told everything to my daughter and that's how Natalie found out about me being a model and not wanting people to see my face. I wanted to fire the teacher for her blabber but Natalie had gotten so used to her. "You've proved your point but I'm sorry, you can't go to school," I said, feeling terrible for disappointing her. "Why are you doing this to me?" She asked with tears brimming in her eyes. "Baby, I hate seeing tears in your eyes but you've got to understand me. I'm not doing this because I hate you, I'm simply trying to protect us." I said softly and wiped away her tears as they dropped. "In a few days, your tutor will come to California and she will teach you. Your nanny is also educated and once a teacher, she also promised to teach you at certain hours of the day." I thought I was going to bring a smile to her face, But she ignored my words and left the sitting room. "Natalie," I called but she didn't bother turning back to even glance at me. "Sweetie, I'm sorry." I lowered my head sadly and released a heavy sigh from my lips. I wish I could take her to school but that might ruin things for me. There were a lot of dangers out there, I couldn't put my daughter at risk. The world didn't know about her and I wanted it to remain like that. She was the best thing that ever happened to me, I had to protect her with every part of my being. "Natalie, your favorite cartoon is about to start!" I said loudly and expected her little footsteps running down the stairs but nothing happened. "f**k!" I cussed and turned off the television using the remote in my hand. As I tried standing to my feet, my phone suddenly rang and I had to sit back on the couch to pick it up. I answered the call and the next thing I heard, displeased me. 'Someone has been looking into me?' I gasped and a frown formed on my lips. 'Yes, he has been investigating your location. He's known to be one of the best and most expensive private investigators. He's hired by wealthy people.' My intel replied. I had people who always brought information to me. Like I said before, I didn't just have the fame but also the power to do a lot of things, in fact, unimaginable things. 'Has he found anything? 'I asked, worriedly. The person that could dare do this would be Damien. He asked Rachel about me and I'm sure that he wasn't convinced by her explanation, so he's trying to find me. As my Intel wanted to speak, a knock came on the door, distracting me. I wanted to answer it but Adaline came out of the kitchen and went to open the door. I looked away from her and continued my conversation with my intel but then, I heard Adeline's voice. "Excuse me ma'am, a man is here to see you."
