Chapter 1

1312 Words
Oliver and Carlos were just about to end their night after carrying out their routine checkups on all their businesses and properties. They were just leaving their most popular club called The Pantheon, located in downtown Los Angeles, when their attention was captured by a scene taking place so close to the front of the club entrance. “Don't worry mama just come with us and it will be fun” one of the guys gathering the lone female drawled out clearly drunk. The female who was wearing just plain blue jeans and a grey sweatshirt was outnumbered three guys to only her and she didn't particularly seem comfortable with that arrangement. “Just leave me alone."she said. The drunk guys didn't seem to register what she said as they didn't leave but continued surrounding her. “Stop!”the female said now sounding desperate and angry. The guys still persisted as one of them grabbed her arm in a tight grip. This seemed to propel Oliver into motion with Carlos following closely behind. “I believe she said stop"Oliver said clearly enough that the drunk guys turned to him. He started going close to them which made the drunks move to the front of the female. “We just want to show her a good time” one of them said and moved to still grab her arm. Carlos immediately brought out his gun and shot him in the knees. “We don't like repeating ourselves” he drawled out. “f**k!!”the guy that was shot shouted. “That was just a warning” Carlos added. This seemed to sober up the guys quickly as they dragged their friend that was shot and made their way out of there quickly. Oliver and Carlos walked up to the female now left standing there alone. “Are you ok?” Oliver asked in a calm voice but received no response only the female breathing heavily pierced the silence. “What's your name?”he asked again. The female looked up at him like she was about to say something but just passed out straight into his arms. “Leave her and let's go" Carlos said to Oliver already turning to leave. “We can't just leave her here alone” Oliver replied. “Let's just get her to a hospital” Oliver said as he lifted the female in his arms and made his way to the car. Kathy opened her eyes and quickly shut them again due to the bright light she saw. She tried again to open and adjust her eyes to the light and finally kept them open and sat up on the bed she was on. Her eyes swept across the IV connected to her arm and she reached for it and dragged it out. She was in the process of standing up from the bed when the door to the room she was in opened up. “Ahh your already awake” she heard before she saw the owner of the voice. It was a man she didn't know or remember from anywhere before. “Who are you?” she asked feeling confused. “Why am I here? And where exactly am I?”she added. She willed her brain to remember or even think of anything remotely useful but it was blank. “Relax miss Katarina” the man said to her as if noticing that she was straining her brain. “How do you know my name?” Kathy asked now looking around for signs of anything she recognised. The mam brought out a transparent plastic bag which contained a silver locket. “This was part of the personal items you had when you were brought here” he said in response to her unspoken question. She took the locket from him and opened it to see a picture that looked like her but probably her younger self and she was with someone else who had a striking resemblance to her. She assumed this person was her mother and really tried to remember but came up with nothing. Engraved at the back of the locket was an insignia and a write up under it in a different language she couldn't read. On the side of the locket said ‘To Katarina’. As Kathy saw this she didn't know how to feel in the moment. “So how did I get here” she asked now looking at the man. “And who even are you?” “I'm Dr. Coveck” the man in question said. “And you were dropped off yesterday night by people who saw you faint and wanted to help. I was informed of this and instructed to check on you.” Kathy didn't have anything to say in response so the doctor continued. “Your vitals are stable but your stress levels are very high and the reason you fainted yesterday was due to exhaustion” he said checking his tablet. “But you can be discharged today if you want. Just meet me in my office for further instructions.” He was turning to leave when Kathy said “Thank you for helping me Dr. Coveck” she mentally slapped herself for being rude as the doctor responded “your welcome miss” and left shutting the door behind him. After he left Kathy then realized she didn't know where her clothes were and that she was hungry. She stood up and left the room with the intention of finding the nearest nurse or doctor but instead she found a vending machine and was trying to get some snacks from it when she was approached by a nurse who helped her get snacks and also brought her clothes for her. Kathy went back to the room she came from and changed into her clothes and also put the locket on. She quickly ate the snacks and went in search of the doctors office. When Kathy found the doctor and he fully explained her situation she was completely dumbstruck. “What do you mean amnesia” she asked feeling exasperated. “I mean that your previous records showed a recent injury likely caused by a blow to the head. But it while it seems to have already healed, your memories are likely lost due to temporary amnesia” the doctor said calmly. “So what am I supposed to do” Kathy asked feeling lost. “Am not saying your memories will never return miss. I'm just saying that it may take some time. Maybe if you were in a familiar environment they might return or seeing familiar faces” he supplied. Kathy was still quiet and looked to be processing the information provided. “In the meantime I do advise that you find shelter and food. You can also look for a job in order to support yourself and pay bills” the doctor added. “How do I pay these bills then” she asked. “You don't need to stress yourself because it has already been taken care of” the doctor said. “By who?” Kathy asked wondering who was nice enough to do this for her. “By the men who brought you here” the doctor replied. “How long will it take me to regain my memory"Kathy asked the doctor while looking at him expectantly. “I can't answer that for you miss” the doctor replied which made Kathy's face fall. “Thank you for everything doctor” Kathy said while standing up and leaving the doctors office. As Kathy walked out of the hospital she didn't know what to do. She thought back to her previous accident which caused this and also how she ended up in front of that club which brought her back to the hospital again.
