“If you had to choose again, would you make the same choice?” Dominic's voice whispered in the ear of the woman he loved.

“No, I don’t regret it.” Nora said as she buried her head in Dominic's chest.

Their relationship? Lovers?

No.

Husband and wife?

Not that either.

It wouldn’t be wrong to say their relationship was a secret affair. Dominic was the stepfather of Nora's ex-boyfriend. Initially, she approached him with only one goal in mind: to take revenge on her lousy ex. But then, without knowing when, she slowly walked into his life and gradually fell in love with him.

Both of them had their own agendas. Initially, there wasn’t a trace of love in this relationship. Dominic was driven by revenge, and so was Nora. Coincidentally, their targets were almost the same.

Two lonely, vengeful souls found each other, became entangled with one another, and eventually fell in love without realizing it...

Chapter 1:
Over three years of loving each other, Nora never thought things would come to this point…. Their relationship was irreparable, and Nora would never give that unfaithful man a chance to mend it. On that day, her world collapsed and her life changed. “What are you doing? Do you miss me?” Nora took advantage of her break to send a message to her boyfriend. Her boyfriend’s name was Elias, and he was two years older than her. They attended the same high school, with Elias being her senior. At seventeen, Nora accepted Elias’s confession, and the two had been together for three years. In the eyes of everyone, they were the “golden couple,” “a perfect match,” admired by all. Let’s discuss the backgrounds of Nora and Elias for a moment. Calling them Cinderella and Prince Charming wouldn’t be wrong. Nora’s parents, retired teachers, relied solely on their meager pensions for their livelihood. In college, Nora covered all her expenses, from tuition to living costs, through part-time jobs. As for Elias, he was the young master of the illustrious Anderson Corporation. Strictly speaking, he wasn’t exactly the young master! Elias’s mother remarried, and her new husband was the owner of the Anderson Corporation. Naturally, their family rose to wealth overnight. Interestingly, despite Elias’s mother having been married before and having a grown son, the owner of the Anderson Corporation still pursued her. Not to mention the age gap, as Elias’s mother was twelve years older than his stepfather. People often mistook them for a mother and son when they went out together. However, people only dared to gossip behind their backs. Both Elias’s mother and the wealthy patriarch were powerful and wealthy, so no one dared to provoke them! Criticism lies only in the peculiar tastes of the rich nowadays. “Miss you? Of course, I miss you!” A reply arrived about two minutes later. Nora read the message with a smile. She loved Elias! She truly loved him! Because she loved him, she didn’t want to be a burden to him. She kept her part-time job a secret from her boyfriend, always showing him she was doing well. “I’m out shopping with friends. What are you doing?” Nora replied. Three minutes later, a response came: “I’m working part time, just trying to gain some experience. Besides, your birthday is coming up, and I want to buy you a gift with the money I earn myself!” Nora’s cheeks blushed. Perhaps the luckiest thing for her was loving such a wonderful man like Elias! “I miss you a lot! And I love you very much!” “I love you too, Nora.” Before Nora could receive a response, a sharp voice interrupted her conversation with her boyfriend. It was Jenny, her colleague. “Nora, why are you still sitting? Lunch break is over!” “Yeah, I know!” Nora quickly put her phone back in her pocket. She would reply to Elias’s message after work. Nora hastily stood up, quickly adjusting her clothes to ensure everything was neat before leaving the break room. “I was just too tired and fell asleep!” Nora made an excuse. “Take these things to room 1314!” Jenny said, handing her a tray. “Okay.” When the elevator stopped on the 13th floor, Nora stepped out and headed to room 1314. She politely knocked on the door, waiting. “Hello, I’m the staff…” Nora couldn’t finish her sentence. Her face froze. She couldn’t believe her eyes. Elias was the one who opened the door. Nora stood there, staring at him. “Elias? What are you doing here?” she stammered, her eyes wide with shock. “Nora…” “Didn’t you say you were working part time? What’s going on?” Nora tried to stay calm. Her head was buzzing, and a headache was making her feel like she was about to explode. Elias seemed surprised as well, unable to hide his fear: “Nora, I can explain...” Just as Elias spoke, a female voice from within the room interjected. “Elias, who’s at the door?” Nora froze upon hearing that voice. It was too familiar! The person she confided in day and night, the one who always sat next to her in class, sharing every joy and sorrow. Anna Smith, her childhood friend! “Anna? Both of you...” Nora felt as if everything around her was collapsing. She didn’t cry, scream, or curse. She stood, gazing at them with vacant eyes. “Do you two feel guilty about me?” Nora bit her lip, refusing to let herself shed a tear. “Nora, it’s all a misunderstanding! It’s not what you think!” Elias hurriedly grabbed Nora’s hand, trying to explain. Elias’s touch now felt utterly disgusting to Nora. She pushed his hand away, pointed at Anna, and said, “Fine, it’s a misunderstanding, right? Then explain! Why is she here? What’s the reason for both of you being in a hotel room? Didn’t you say you were working part time?” “I… the thing is…” “Ha! If you can’t explain, let me do it for you! You and she lust for each other, sneaking around behind my back! And the part-time job you mentioned, was it in bed, with my best friend as your partner?” Nora’s eyes burned with anger. She sneered coldly. Both Elias and Anna were speechless. They could only stand there, repeatedly saying, “No… it’s not…” “Did I say anything wrong, Elias?” “Nora, it’s not as bad as you think! I was just borrowing your boyfriend for a bit when I was lonely! I didn’t intend to steal him!” Anna shamelessly said. Her current demeanor was infuriating and arrogant. “Fine, if you two desire each other so much, then keep each other close! Trash belongs in the trash bin!” Nora threw the tray on the ground and turned to leave. She ignored Elias’s calls; she didn’t need such a scumbag! “Don’t cry, don’t cry! That kind of person isn’t worth your tears, Nora!” she told herself. She bit her lip, not allowing any sobs to escape. But no, her heart refused to listen! The pent-up emotions exploded, and she broke into tears. Her heart felt like it was being shattered into a hundred pieces. Just moments ago, she felt like the happiest person on earth, but now, her heartfelt devotion was met with betrayal. Her best friend climbing into bed with her boyfriend! Nora quickly walked towards the elevator, frantically pressing the buttons. She didn’t know what she wanted or what she was doing anymore. Nora couldn’t let those unworthy people hurt her any longer. In that moment, all she felt was intense pain and immense disappointment.
