“Em, it’s me.” Olivia finally plucked up the courage to call Emily. The longer she left it, the harder it had become. Emily had sent a card and present to the Manor when Alexander had been born, and Olivia had sent a polite a thank-you note in return, but they had not spoken since the argument.
“It’s so good to hear your voice,” Emily squeaked. “I was literally about to call you.”
“Really? Weird,” Olivia laughed.
“I’ve got something to show you,” Emily said. “It’s important.”
“Why don’t you come down?” said Olivia. “We can talk properly and you can meet Alexander.”
“Really?” Emily exclaimed. “Where’s Sebastian?”
“He’s in Tokyo,” Olivia replied. “Why does this feel awkward?”
Emily laughed nervously. “Because it is.”
