Chapter 2~ Alejandro Jiménez

" Is the job done?"I ask after taking a drag of my cigarette, the nicotine filling my lungs and sharpening my senses. "You know I don't like repeating myself, " I say after a few minutes of silence from one of my men standing in front of me. "Y- Yes boss," he stammered. I chuckle darkly, making him squirm more. " Then why do I hear that he's in St Andrew's hospital?" I ask c*****g my head to the side. "Boss I promise you , I did what you asked. I don't know how he's still alive" he pleads. I just sigh. You know that saying —if you want something done right, do it yourself. Or something of that sort. I stand up and head to my gun compartment, punching the code into the keypad and retrieving a silencer. "Sir please." the man continues to beg " Don't kill me." "Oh this?" I wave the silencer. " isn't for you. It's for brother dearest." I smirk. "This, however, is." I pull my handgun from my waistband and shoot him between his eyes. I sigh, annoyed. His blood is staining my carpet. "Whoa, Al . I thought we were here to celebrate with less bodily fluids." Damien, my right-hand man and best friend, says, strolling into my office with champagne in his hands and observing the state of my office. " Is that from my club?" I ask nodding towards the bottle. "Of course it is. It's on your tab, by the way," he answers, sitting on one of the couches. I shake my head and put out my cigarette on the ashtray. Heading towards the door, Damien stops me. "Where are you going?" he questions. "To finish off my beloved brother ," I answer. "He's still alive?" I give him an incredulous look. "No, just going to kill a random man named Santiago," I reply sarcastically. He gives me a sheepish look . "Fine I'll go with you." " Whatever. You'll stay in the car". I say as we both head to my black BMW and drive off to the hospital. " So what's the plan?" Damien asks as we arrive at the parking lot. "What's there to plan?" I reply getting out the car. " I go in, send Sanny-boy to hell where he belongs, and come out." " I like it." he replies grinning. "Of course you do" I say removing my suit jacket and rolling my sleeves up to my elbow. "You're waiting in the car, Damien" I say as I notice him getting out of the car. "And miss all the fun? hell no," He argues. "Fine you big baby, you'll drive us back" I say already tired of his antics. "You could have led with that." He grumbles while entering the driver's seat. " Don't waste my time. This big baby is hungry." Sighing for the fiftieth time today, I head to the reception desk, making sure my gun is hidden. " Hii " the nurse greets when she sees me approaching in an annoying high pitched voice. Batting her eyelashes, she continues " How can I help you?" " I'm here to see my brother, Santiago Jimènez. Got a call saying he was brought here," I reply, failing to hide my irritation. "What's your relationship to the patient?" She asks obviously not listening to a word I said. " I clearly said my brother" I reply exasperated. "Fourth floor, room 404, ICU ward" she mumbles, cheeks reddening in embarrassment. "Thanks" I mumbled storming off to the elevator and heading to the directions I was given. I Open my brother's hospital -room door. His nurse, I presume, is standing with her back to me observing my brother. "Excuse me" I say after a couple of minutes. She jumps slightly and immediately turns to me, looking like a deer caught in headlights. And she just stares. I don't blame her I'd stare too. I take her in. Smooth caramel skin, dark curls packed in a messy bun, forest-green eyes focused on me. She's ethereal. Clearing her throat and breaking whatever trance she dragged us both into. " Do you need something?" " Yes actually. I came to see my brother" I answered inclining my head toward the shithead on the bed. " " Oh " she mumbles, her eyes filling with empathy. "Is he okay?" I ask keeping up the facade of the doting brother. She gives me the usual every medical professional spiel. We're doing our best blah blah blah. I look at Santiago, every pain I feel rising up to the surface and a surge of anger consumes me. Santiago is my half brother. The son of my father's mistress. My mother was struggling with infertility, so he stuck his d**k in another woman. When the mistress got pregnant, he moved her into the house. No respect for my mother whatsoever. Five years later, I came into this world but my mother died in childbirth and I was raised by my father's cook ,Mama Rosa alongside her son, Damien. She was the only mother figure I ever knew. I grew up with my stepmother who saw me as a threat. She was always scared I would take her son's place. She knew Santiago's position was on borrowed time the moment I was born. But my father never really cared about me. Santiago made sure to remind me of that. When I got beaten by my stepmother, mama Rosa would try her best to shield me from it. My father never believed me if I told him what goes on in our home when he's not around. Most of the time, he'd add more bruises because I supposedly lied against his wife and son.I hated my them, but I hated my father more. I was thirteen when mama Rosa passed away. A kitchen accident, they say. Damien and I fled to Mexico soon after. Revenge. The only thing keeping us going. I vowed to take everything that belonged to me and more. Santiago is just the beginning. " I didn't get your name," I hear the nurse say quietly. " I never told you my name," I replied, still looking at the bastard lying on the bed. "For official documentation," she says. I finally turn toward her and give her my name. The name that would haunt her if she doesn't leave in the next five minutes.
