Chapter 12

1350 Words
Merlon knew that Rose would be in different treatments for about 2 hours, so he decided to use the time. He took out his phone and dialled Artie's number. His call went straight to Art’s voicemail. That meant that his horde was either in tactical training or on a mission. Merlon knew that Art would call him back as soon as he could, so he hung up without leaving a massage. The next number he dialled was the number of Artie’s mate, Ayn, she was the soul of the horde. The best Beta-female he could wish for. She has turned the headquarters of the horde into a home for all of them. When she came to the group nearly 500 years ago they all were a little more on the savage side, no wonder being surrounded by death and war. Her fine sense of humour, laughter and not to forget her cooking skills had won the hearts of them one by one. Now she was the warmth and home of the headquarters, but don’t get me wrong she is not always tender and sweet. Ayn could be a pain in the as when one of the guys dared to go against the rules in “her home”. She was as deadly as any of them so no one dared to go to her bad side intentionally. It was bad enough when they did it by accident or involuntarily. After a few rings of the phone Ayn. “This is Ayn, how may I help you Alpha” her pleasant voice came through the speaker. “Hello Ayn” he answered smiling “I just wanted to say that I miss your food.” he felt Mortiferus chuckle. Ayn’s reaction came immediately a slight bell like laughter “Alpha I know that, but what is the real reason you seek to speak with me?”. Damned he wanted to smooth in to it, but he should have known that she could see through it. “I need two things from you, first a promise that you won’t tell your mate what I’m going to tell you, for as long as I need it to be concealed and second I need your advice.” It was normal for the members of the horde to seek advice from each other and normally they wouldn’t have to speak about confidentiality. It was an unspoken rule that as long it was not crucial or dangerous for the others to know that confidentiality was key. That Merlon asked for it was very rare and spiked Ayn’s Interest. She stopped rustling and working in the Kitchen. “I Promise not to tell anyone or anything until I’m allowed to do so and I’m all ears” Was her direct answer. She knew this would be good. Merlon cleared his throat “I’ve found my Mate...” He came no further, because Ayn screamed and cheered so loud that he feared someone in the quarter would hear. “Ayn!STOP!” He said with his Alpha-voice. Silence followed and he sight. “Are you alone Ayn? And please it’s not that simple, so please hear me out.”. Merlon could hear the faint screeching of a chair through the speaker “Yes I’m all alone and now I’m sitting, tell me how bad is it and how may I help you” “Ayn she is human, she doesn’t know anything about our reality or our world. She is beautiful, witty and a thousand other things… the bond is there… even Mort is smitten with her.” You could hear the smile her voice “But that's wonderful and I know that shouldn’t be a problem... So what is it? I know for certain that you can be most charming and enticing”. He smiled due to the compliment she made him “Ayn she is terminally ill and I can’t say how long we have or if my magic will suffice to help her...” The desperation in his voice was incomparable to anything she ever heard from him. Her answer was simple “Send me the coordinates and I’ll pick up Laurentia and be there as fast as we can” He could only answer “Not too fast!” and the connection was dead. That went well he thought with a grim and ironic smile on his face. But he had realized that he needed help, considering the alternative. No he would never let her go without a fight for her, with her and for a life together! With this thought he transmitted the coordinates to the phone of Ayn and for Laurentia in addition a short notice that Ayn would come to pick her up and that it is urgent. Mere minutes later he got the confirmation from Laure that she was good to go. He felt relief, but instead of relaxing he felt himself getting restless and a little breathless. He concentrated and Mort was getting restless and moving erratically. Something was wrong, so he went to look after his precious mate. He became more tensed when he discovered that she was in bad shape. Very pale and struggling for every breath. Mortiferus was rebelling against the chains and was trying for control. But Merlon new that he shouldn’t and couldn’t gatecrash in there without the problem to explain why the heck he needed to be there without sounding lunatic to them. So he was trembling and stayed put where he was, just observing her getting calmer and better within the next minutes. He saw how she got tired from the crisis and the medication. How her eyelids dropped and her breath got slower. From his observation point he could see the dark rings around her eyes and the pale waxen skin of hers. He hurt for her, and he would like nothing better than to help her this instant. He knew that the magic he used on her was working slow, and he felt the strengthening bond between them. But without the help of Laure an Ayn he would only do more in an absolute emergency. Seeing her doze a little he calmed down and after a sharp exchange of words with Mort, they finally agreed to prepare for the arrival of Laure and Ayn. It was only the argument that those were for his mate and her gain that Mort was reluctantly persuaded to leave her side. Since he was used to working efficiently, all things organizational fell in place as quickly as they could. That’s one blessing of having money, the other things and preparations took their time to his and Mort's annoyance. But clearing bad energies and preparing a place to use magic is nothing to rush through. Yes, of course there is something like “fast and dirty” but that’s more for battle than for what he had in mind. The phone vibrated and taking it up, the message said that ETA of the girls was in 9 minutes. Uh…they were quick just over 2 hours. On his way back to the observing point from before, Merlon was going over various ways to approach the procedure and how to start with her. Seeing that she had already left made him and Morty giddy and a little sad, they would have loved to accompany her...on the other hand who would let a good opportunity of a hunt slip through? Most certainly not Mort and Merlon! So they started and followed the trail back to her room yet still further. They started to run something felt weird…the weird turned into wrong… the wrong turned into terribly wrong… that was the moment when they reached the Indoor pool with a neck breaking speed and heard her voice in their mind and consciousness. Just a whisper, with a wave of tiredness and despair “Merlon I’m sorry”. Looking for her hastily and with utmost urgency, they scanned the room… The shock to see her in the water with a pain grimaced face, Merlon jumped into the water without a second to lose. Using his magic he ploughed through the water getting it to her... But when he finally reached her they felt her getting limb… “No, No, NO!” They roared struggling to get her on dry land…...
