Episode 1
Laura’s POV
I sat quietly in the classroom doodling on the pages of my sketchbook. This helps me get my mind off things that put me on edge. This is my getaway plan from being bullied twice the same day by literally, the whole school.
No one would notice my absence in the cafeteria. Not like anyone ever has, not even my sister.
Growing up, my sister, Clara, was the only consolation I had in place of our neglectful parents. Though Clara gets more attention from our parents than me, probably because I am not the typical slender child like her. Our parents always had something to say about my chubby body, things parents shouldn't say to their children.
Currently, my companion is my wolf whom I met two weeks ago on my eighteenth birthday.
The same day I discovered that Jeremy, my bully and nightmare was my mate. It has been a bitter-sweet experience for me.
My thoughts drifted to what happened in the hallway that morning which led to me being humiliated In front of the whole school and this caused me to avoid the cafeteria while knowing Jeremy would be there.
Jeremy, stood with Cole, Enzo, and Carter in the hallway, close to their lockers.
Jeremy is the most handsome guy in Mystic Falls High School. His high grades, muscular body, and the fact that he is the captain of the basketball team (Wild Cats) as the team is known, gave him all the fame and popularity.
He is every girl's dream except for me, his mate, even though I know I do not hold a candle to him if I choose to idolize him like the other girls do.
At first, my wolf would bug me to be close to our mate but I couldn't because he was my worst nightmare.
He seemed to get away with a lot of things which made me not report all the horrible things he has done to me.
As I made my way into the hallway this morning, I began to hear laughter from the boys. Just as I rounded the corner to my locker, I got a glimpse of Jeremy smirking at me.
I knew that look so I decided to head for class instead.
“Watch this,” Jeremy said to the guys and turned to me as I tried to hurry past them.
“Hey!” Jeremy beckoned at me.
I already knew he was up to no good so I ignored him and kept walking.
“I'm talking to you Fatty!” he said and tried to get hold of my right hand which was swinging to the front.
“f**k!” Jeremy cursed dramatically. He brought out his handkerchief to clean off the imaginary sweat off his hand from my body. This made the crowd which is now gattered laugh hysterically.
I was already in front of Cole, trying to make my escape when I felt something wedged at my leg and before I could blink, I was already on the floor with a resounding thud.
I wondered why the earth hadn't swallowed me up yet because right now I could practically hear everyone laughing. It was like the whole school was now out in the hallway to see me on the floor.
With everyone surrounding me, my breathing heightened. My nostrils sought the slightest wave of oxygenated air and when They didn't find it, I could hear herself gasping for air, yet everyone laughed.
“What is happening here?” I heard a deep voice, which turned out to be our biology teacher, Mr. Matt.
I couldn't help but raise my head slightly to see him make his way through the students. Immediately he saw me on the floor, he swiftly turned to the students.
“Everyone, to your class now!” He barked.
And in seconds the hallway became as clear as a desert. I couldn't help but wonder the strange look I saw briefly on Jeremy's face as he turned to leave.
With the coast cleared, I took my time to inhale quietly now. As my breathing slowed down to normal, I heard Mr. Matt ask if I was alright.
I quickly snapped my head back up in surprise, as I had already forgotten that I wasn't the only one there.
“Ye..Yes sir,” I answered, unsure of what to say next.
Next, he extended his hand toward me. I looked at him and couldn't decide if I could take his hand or not. For some reason, I felt I might pull him down due to my weight instead of him helping me up.
I am not overweight, but, being repeatedly called fatty has influenced my sense of body judgment. I was what you can call chubby but not fat.
I wear glasses that take up a large portion of my face and I didn't care more about my dress sense since I am always in baggy pants and shirts which hasn't been of help, at all.
One of the features I seem to like about myself is my “eyes”.
I have always known that I have beautiful eyes which on one occasion, Mr. Matt had mentioned were beautiful shades of green and I couldn't help but blush as that seemed to be the first compliment ever directed at me. My eyes seem to be in harmony with my curly red ginger hair which now almost touches my butt.
Mr. Matt looks lanky in the oversized shirts he puts on. He has a chiseled perfect face and full lips which I thought didn't quite fit his lean body.
I looked up at him again and he smiled. I noticed for the first how beautiful his smile is.
He extended his hand further to my face which I then reluctantly took while hoping that the worst wouldn't happen but instead I felt his strength in an instant and I stood up effortlessly. This made me wonder if there is more to this man.
But that thought didn't linger a second more in my mind.
“Thank you.” He said as I couldn't come up with any words at that moment.
I looked at him confused. “W-What”?
“I believe that was the word you were looking for”. He added.
“Umm. Yes. Thank you, Mr. Matt.. as always.”
I said and hurried down the hall to my class.
My last two words are a hint that this wasn't the first time he has had to chase off my peers from humiliating me.
He just happened to arrive just in time sometimes. I'd mutter “Thank you” and hurry away.
Luckily today, I did not have any class with Jeremy or his minions until the last period, which I hate to even think about.
Soon, the door swung open and there walked in Mr. Matt, who was now walking directly to me even though that is the normal thing to do - walking up to me - besides there was no one in the classroom but me.
I only nodded at him before he dumped a nylon in front of my desk which I didn't even notice he was holding earlier.
I gave him a questioning look but he gestured that I opened it.
Opening the nylon, it was my favorite burger - Domino's burger. I couldn't help but smile sheepishly.
My mouth made a move to ask, “How do you know me so well?” but later decided to settle for “Thank you.”
“You're welcome Green eyes.” He said and walked back to the door then turned around and said “Try not to get into trouble.”
He knew I was avoiding Jeremy and the rest of the school.
‘Green eyes!’ It sounded so familiar I thought.
That kept repeating itself in my head for a minute. I couldn't help but smile. At least one person in the whole pack cares about me. I will repay Mr. Matt for his kindness.
