CHAPTER 4 A DANGEROUS OFFER

658 Words
Aria couldn’t stop staring at her hands. The memory replayed over and over in her mind—the burst of energy, the way the rogue had been thrown back like it was nothing. That wasn’t normal. That wasn’t omega. “That’s impossible…” she whispered. “You’re still underestimating yourself.” Kael’s voice cut through her thoughts. Calm. Certain. Annoyingly confident. Aria looked up at him, frustration flashing in her eyes. “I’m not underestimating anything. I know what I am.” “Do you?” he challenged. Silence stretched between them. For a moment, she had no answer. Kael stepped closer, his presence filling the space between them. “Your pack lied to you,” he said quietly. “Or they simply never knew the truth.” Aria’s jaw tightened. “My pack knows exactly who I am.” “A weak omega?” he asked bluntly. The words stung. Before she could stop herself, she snapped, “At least I belong somewhere.” The moment the words left her mouth, she regretted them. Kael’s expression darkened—not with anger, but something deeper. Something unreadable. “You think belonging is the same as being valued?” he asked. Aria froze. Her mind flashed back to the rejection. The laughter. The humiliation. No… she hadn’t been valued. Not even a little. Kael took another step closer, his voice softer now, but no less powerful. “You were tolerated. That is not the same thing.” Her chest tightened. “I don’t need your pity,” she said, though her voice lacked strength. “Good,” he replied. “Because I don’t offer pity.” Their eyes locked. The bond between them pulsed again—stronger, warmer this time. Aria’s breath hitched as something unfamiliar stirred inside her. Not fear. Something else. Something dangerous. She quickly stepped back, breaking the moment. “Then what do you want?” Kael didn’t hesitate. “You.” Her heart skipped. “No,” she said immediately, shaking her head. “Absolutely not.” “You misunderstand,” he said smoothly. “I’m not asking.” Her eyes widened. “You don’t get to decide that!” “I already have.” Anger flared in her chest. “I’m not some weak omega you can just claim and control!” For a split second— Kael’s aura surged. The air around them grew heavy, charged with raw power. It pressed against her skin, forcing her wolf to react. But instead of fear… her wolf leaned into it. Responded to it. Accepted it. Aria’s breath caught. “I do not control what is mine,” Kael said, his voice low and dangerous. “I protect it.” The words hit differently. Before she could respond, a cold wind swept through the forest, carrying a faint, unfamiliar scent. Kael’s head snapped toward the trees instantly. His entire demeanor changed. Alert. Deadly. “We’re not alone,” he said. Aria felt it too this time—a presence far more controlled than the rogues from before. This wasn’t wild. This was intentional. “Who is it?” she whispered. Kael’s jaw tightened. “Someone who shouldn’t be here.” A figure stepped out of the shadows. Tall. Confident. Smirking. Aria’s heart dropped. “Logan…” she breathed. Her former Alpha’s eyes locked onto hers, dark with something she couldn’t quite read—regret… possession… anger. “Well,” Logan said slowly, his gaze shifting briefly to Kael before returning to her. “Looks like you’ve gotten yourself into more trouble than I expected.” Kael stepped forward, placing himself slightly in front of Aria. A silent warning. Logan’s smirk faded. “And who exactly are you?” Logan asked coldly. Kael didn’t answer immediately. Instead, his lips curved into a faint, dangerous smile. “The man she belongs to.” The forest went still. And just like that— Everything was about to explode. -
