Quiet Jacek's Mind

Calico Coyote speaking, before you get into this chapter I wanted to give you a little heads up. This chapter into Jacek’s head will be a little extreme, and I don’t want anyone freaking out because of some kind of ‘trigger’. So, if you feel the need to skip this chapter, then by all means do so. I will eventually let Jacek explain to Cairyn in a latter chapter so if you skip this one you will not be un-informed. As always thank you for reading, and enjoy this trip into Jacek’s P.O.V. feel her emotions. They were so strong that a simple touch allowed me access to them, she allowed me access. I tried to brush them off, not wanting to invade her privacy like that, but it was to no avail. I felt her happiness, her calm, and her love whenever I was near.                 It was hard to try and deny it to myself that she didn’t love me, but after that moment I could even see it in her eyes. It made me question how I felt. I did a good job keeping everyone at a distance, to make sure no one ever got involved enough with me to catch my father’s attention. With Cairyn though, it was nearly painful to resist her. Every time she smiled I felt my insides tighten, and with every touch it made me want to just lose myself in her, but it couldn’t happen. If I did that, my father would be able to scent her out on me and maybe even find her. She had to stay away. I need for her to be safe.                       The night after the party, I came home to a very pissed off Cordon. He had been drinking scotch and was in the mood to fight. Unfortunately, all day I had Cairyn at my side to make sure she was safe from the other students and he was bound to scent her.                 I barely got the door shut when he was there in front of me. “Boy, if you don’t tell me the girl you’ve been hanging around, I’m going to dismember you.”                 I sighed. It’s a threat he’s said on several occasions. “Not going to happen. I’m not hanging out with anyone. I never do.”                 “Lies, boy. If you don’t tell me, I’ll just have to get her name the hard way.” Cordon said as he yanked off his leather belt.                 I straightened, towering over my father. “Do what you want.”                 Cordon rapped my arms several times with the belt before smiling up at me. “Still want to keep her a secret?”                 “Yeah.” I said waiting for another hit which came shortly after.                 My father made a grunt as he slapped the belt across my chest so hard I thought the leather was going to crack. “I can’t believe I got stuck with a useless piece of s**t like you. You mother was strong, but just as useless as you. She probably killed herself because of having such a powerless brat of a son. You are supposed to be the strongest there is, boy! The first and only Immortal Copycat that has ever existed! The only thing you can do is heal your shitty body. The all mighty Copycat, powerless and taking the harsh end of my belt. Over what? Some b***h? I will stop if you tell me who she is. I want to invite her over, get to know her, and see what the fuss is about since your hiding her from me. She must be new to the town, or we would have done this long ago. Tell me boy, who are her parents?”                 I didn’t flinch, just took the abuse and waited for him to finish. “It’s just killing you inside, isn’t it father? You can do whatever you want with me, I really don’t care, but you will never find out who that scent belongs too. I will take the secret of her to the grave. So, go ahead. I won’t fight back, like always. You will never lay one finger on her skin, because if you did, I would kill you without a second thought. Use your stupid ability, you know I’m telling you the truth.”                 Cordon snarled as he rapped the leather belt across me several dozen more times. Only stopping when he got tired, his stamina lacking because of his drinking. When he retired to his room I moved to go to my own. After I shut my door I yanked off my shirt and looked at the bloody welts in the mirror. I let out a deep breath and closed my eyes. I focused on my body and healing my wounds. It didn’t take long at all, since I didn’t have any broken bones this time and it was solely skin abrasions. Only a little longer. That’s what I keep telling myself at least. As soon as I was able to leave, I was gone. That or I was going to end up killing Cordon.                        Then Darthwood had to show up.                 I was already on edge with my father becoming increasingly interested in Cairyn, and now I had to make sure the sister school’s students stayed away from her. We were at lunch when I heard her calling out for me in the back of my mind. I didn’t hesitate to vanish. I appeared right in front of her only to see that some jackass had his hand on her throat. It took everything in me to keep from ripping that guy to shreds. I broke every one of his fingers that touched her delicate skin, and as I did I took his power for my own. From what I was gathering it was the ability to create images into someone’s mind that never happened, some sort of memory twister. Useless.                 Calling Cairyn a trouble magnet was an understatement. She didn’t see or feel the things we do about her. Her scent was intoxicating, her beauty was in everything she did, and her kindness towards others was refreshing. She stood there with a smile on her face and told me she was going to be fine, knowing full well there was always someone out for her. I didn’t want to leave her there, but I was going to give her what she wanted. I retreated back to the spot where Casey was and listened to him talk about Derek and keeping Cairyn away from him. When the girls came back, I couldn’t help myself. I let my eyes track Cairyn’s every movement, knowing fully well she was aware of me staring.                 Lunch was almost over and suddenly she shot to her feet, I asked her what was wrong before she took off towards the back of the cafeteria. I went to follow her, but Erin the cheerleader came and told me I needed to go to the principal’s office immediately. I needed to hurry this up so I can find where Cairyn ran off too.                 I materialized in the principal’s office within a few seconds. “You needed to see me?”                 Principal Drevis nodded, his hand on his heart from me startling him. “Yes, it’s been brought to my attention that you want to join the football team?”                 “No, I don’t.” I said while letting out a sigh. I had no idea what the hell was going on.                 Drevis raised an eyebrow. “That’s not what I understand. Coach Dagon, said that you’ve been spending time with Cairyn Castell and she convinced you to join the football team? He said something about telling your father that you have a new friend. Cordon would love to hear about your school life, and your abilities you’ve been exhibiting around the school.”                 It wasn’t a threat in traditional standards, but Principal Drevis knew what he was doing. “So, if I join the team you won’t tell my father about Cairyn or me?”                 He smiled big. “Welcome to the Vikings. I won’t say anything to Cordon as long as you play and win us some games. It’s been seventy years since we won the championship. This year, we’re going to win it.”                 I shook my head. “Yeah, I’ll do what you want.”                 “Splendid. You may go now.” Principal Drevis said with a smirk, looking back down to his papers.                 With that I turned and headed out of the office. Torrance. I knew he was planning something, I just wasn’t expecting this. What the hell did he have to gain by making me play football? This couldn’t be his whole plan, this was probably just the start of it. I couldn’t tell if his plan was for me or for Cairyn. Everything in me hoped it didn’t include her, but somehow, I doubted it.                 I pushed open the door and scanned the area for her. It’s what I did every time I left a classroom now. My eyes found her standing with Gwyneth, Casey, Hexic, and some other guy I didn’t recognize. As I made my way over to them, Cairyn held up her hand with a disappointed look on her beautiful face. The guy I didn’t know had her hand in his, and from the look on her face it was unwanted. I vanished, materializing right in front of her grabbing the guy by his wrist. My grip tightened, but he didn’t even flinch. While touching him, I copied his ability. It seems he can make himself hollow, there visually, but not physically. Now this power might come in handy.                 The guy smiled, but didn’t let go of Cairyn. “You must be the him they all keep referring too.”                 My first thought was to snap his neck, but I couldn’t do that in front of all these people. “Let the human go.”                 “No, I don’t think I will be doing that.” Without notice he ripped his wrist from me. The guy was a lot stronger than I thought.                 Cairyn’s face turned to dread as he used his ability on himself and her. She looked to me and I could feel her begin to panic. Now I was pissed off. She reached out for me, but as our hands touched hers went right through mine.                 “What the hell? Jacek?” Her voice said softly, concern filling every word.                 I shot a menacing glare to the Darthwood guy. “If you’re not careful, you’re going to hurt her.”                 He didn’t look fazed as he shook his head. “I won’t. The question is, how are you going to get your little girlfriend back? You can’t even touch her.”                 Beside us I could see Gwyneth rubbing her arm nervously, I wonder if the girlfriend comment was her doing? I really didn’t care. I needed to get Cairyn back. As studied them trying to figure out how to activate the ability, Cairyn was desperate to get away from this guy. I could feel her ever since that day. Then her face began to show pain, making my blood boil in my veins.                 “Jacek? Help me. It’s starting to hurt.” She begged.                 I needed to get her back to normal now! I shook out my hand concentrating on my new ability then reached for her. The moment I grabbed her, her body re-materialized. All except the hand that was being held by Darthwood guy, who looked stunned and confused as he looked over to me.                 “How the hell did you do that? Who the f**k are you?” He questioned with a near disgusted look on his face.                 Cairyn surprised us both when she yanked her hand from his. The moment she was out of his grasp, I pulled her back into my chest, wrapping my arm around the front of her shoulders protectively. “Don’t bother Cairyn again.”                 I let out a sigh of relief when she leaned into me.                 “Told you.” She said tauntingly.                 The guy smirked, seemingly impressed. “He’s good. I’ll give him that. What’s your name?”                 I didn’t hear a word he said. My focus was elsewhere. Are you okay, dolcezza?                 “I’m fine, was harassed by three succubi’s while you were gone too.” Cairyn replied with a huff.                 Really? How is it you get into so much trouble for such a small human? I let out a deep breath. Having her here in my arms was more relaxing than it should be. I wanted her so much it scares me. There was always the possibility that my abilities could hurt her, just like this guy had done. Yet, it didn’t stop the thoughts that headed right for the gutter. Thinking about her wrapping her sleek legs around me, and burying myself so deep in her that I forget my entire life without her in it.                 “You know, that is a very good question, Mr. Bad Wolf. One that I think will never be answered.” Her sweet voice said with a hint of sarcasm. Her pet name for me was ridiculous, but then again, I wouldn’t have it any other way.                 Hearing my name caught Cairyn’s attention. “I’m sure you have, Jacek is apparently really popular among the ladies.”                 I shook my head at her. “Your impossible, dolcezza.”                 “Oh, I know.” She said to me before giving me a sexy wink and a stunning smile. “But you like it.”                 This girl is going to be the death of my sanity. Most of the time.                 “Is she your girl?”                 That guy interrupted us, and his question wasn’t going to be answered by me. I wanted to say yes, but I knew better. Cairyn’s happiness and safety was top priority, over my own. I loosened my hold on her and let my arm fall away from her. She glanced over to me with a mischievous look on her face. This is twice in one day that we’ve been badgered about this, it was starting to get on my nerves.                 “Why does it matter to you so much?” Cairyn asked.                 When I stepped away Hexic came over and whispered to me. “That guy is the quarterback for Darthwood Academy, his names Drax. He showed up and kind of saved Cairyn from the succubus’s, but then he wouldn’t leave her alone after.”                 I nodded to him. “I figured he was going to be the quarterback.”                 “If you two are dating I’ll back off, but if not I wanna ask you out.”                 That caught my attention.                 Cairyn was as poised as a statue as her eyes narrowed a little. “Wait what?”                 Drax smiled big enough to show her pearly whites. “I want to ask you to go out with me, just on one date. Come with me to the football game.”                 “You want me to go on a date with you to the football game against my own school? What in the past twenty minutes have given you the idea that I am even interested?” She crossed her arms over her chest defensively.                 Drax licked his lips letting his eyes roam over her like she already belonged to him. “What do you have to lose? It’s not like your bad boy over there is committing to you. So, come with me. I promise I’ll be gentle so I don’t hurt you.”                 I should have seen that coming. He was right. I haven’t made a single move towards extending our relationship. f**k. I needed to go, I didn’t want to hear her potentially say yes.                 Cairyn scoffed out loud. “Hey, you know nothing about Jacek. Sure, he is a ‘bad boy’ type, but he’s more committed to me than anyone has been to me in my entire life besides my mother. He has literally saved my life more times than I can count on my one hand, and has never complained about it. Jacek is a lot of things, but you are not fit to judge him. No one is. So, thank you for your offer, but I’ll be in the stands with my friends watching you lose to Black Water. The bell is about to ring, so, goodbye Drax.”                 Damn this girl is perfect. I heard her set Drax back in his place before I felt her come close to me, hugging at my side with a proud look on her face. I looked down at Cairyn, and when she met my gaze she gave me one of her famous heart shattering wink’s.
