Chapter 23

802 Words
The Bond Awakens Hailey The moment Rider catches me, the world fractures. Not breaks. Expands. Pain tears through my body so violently that I cannot even scream. It rips through bone and blood and nerve endings like lightning splitting open the sky itself. My back arches instinctively against him as silver light erupts beneath my skin, brighter now, no longer flickering but blazing. The cabin shakes. Wood creaks violently around us. The windows explode outward in a shower of glass. And inside my mind something awakens. A howl tears through me. Not from outside. From inside. Ancient.Powerful.Female. Mine. The sound echoes through every part of me, filling spaces that have been empty my entire life. The hollow ache I carried for yearsthe loneliness, the silence, the constant feeling that something inside me was missing it vanishes. Replaced. My wolf rises like moonlight flooding darkness. Silver. Beautiful. Terrifying. For one suspended heartbeat, I see her clearly inside my mind. Massive silver fur glowing beneath starlight.Eyes like liquid mercury.Power rolling off her in waves strong enough to bring kingdoms to their knees. Then she looks directly at me. And speaks. Finally. Her voice is soft. Ancient. Mine. Hello, Hailey. A sob catches painfully in my throat. "You were there..." I whisper aloud, tears blurring my vision instantly. Always. The answer wraps around my soul with unbearable warmth. Not absent. Not gone.Waiting. Waiting for them. Waiting for me. The bond between us slams fully into place. And suddenly I feel everything. Kael's control like cold iron wrapped around devotion.Asher's steady grounding presence, calm beneath chaos.Zane's violent storm of emotion barely held together.Rider's deep, instinctive protectiveness burning like desert fire. All of it crashes into me at once. Too much. Far too much. I gasp sharply, nails digging into Rider's shoulders as energy surges violently through my veins. Silver light pulses outward from my skin again, stronger this time, forcing all four brothers to brace instinctively against the pressure exploding through the room. The air crackles. The ground trembles beneath our feet. And my wolf my Goddess rises fully inside me. Rider Sirocco goes completely still. Reverent. Every instinct inside me recognises what is happening before my mind fully catches up. She is shifting. Not physically. Something deeper. Something ancient. Silver light pours across her skin like liquid moonlight as the bond ignites completely between us. The connection slams into my chest with enough force to steal my breath. Mate. Ours. Mine. But beneath the possessiveness comes something else. Awe. Because this power this presence is unlike anything I have ever felt before. Her scent changes instantly. Vanilla and strawberries remain, but something ancient now burns beneath it. Moonlight. Storms. Wild forests. Icecovered mountains. Desert heat. All four clans. All inside her. Sirocco lowers himself instinctively inside my mind. Not submission. Recognition. Kael Fenrir has never bowed to anything. Not fear. Not power. Not another Alpha. Yet the moment her wolf fully awakens he does. Not physically. Instinctively. Ancient blood recognises its equal. Or perhaps something greater. Silver energy spirals violently around the room, shaking the cabin walls hard enough to splinter wood further. The air itself feels overloaded with power. "She needs grounding," Asher says sharply. Hailey gasps again as another wave tears through her body. Her power is unstable. Explosive. And if it continues unchecked "She could destroy this place," Zane mutters, eyes wide with something dangerously close to excitement. "She is in pain," Rider snaps back immediately. I move toward her slowly, carefully, despite every instinct demanding I claim, touch, protect. "Hailey." Her eyes snap toward me instantly. And I freeze. Silver. Her eyes are glowing silver. Not partially shifted. Not wolf eyes. Something else entirely. Ancient. Hailey Everything hurts. Everything burns. The power inside me feels too large for my body, stretching painfully against muscles and bones never meant to contain something like this. My wolf presses closer. Do not fear me. "I'm trying not to," I choke out. Unfortunately, I say it aloud. All four brothers stare at me instantly. "She's speaking to her wolf," Asher says quietly. My wolf's presence wraps tighter around me, stronger and warmer with every passing second. For the first time in my life I am not alone inside myself. The realisation breaks something open emotionally. Tears spill down my face before I can stop them. "She was there the whole time," I whisper brokenly. "All these years..." Rider's grip on me tightens carefully, protective without restraint. Kael steps closer again, slower this time. "What is her name?" The question settles heavily inside me. My wolf lifts her head proudly inside my mind. Then the answer comes naturally. "Selene." The moment her name leaves my lips the world goes silent. Outside the cabin, the wind dies instantly. The forest stills. And somewhere far above the trees the moon glows brighter.
