Sarah and Katie walk into the kitchen, and see two guards waiting.
“I am Sarah, how can I help you?” She asks nervously.
“I’m Rolf, and he is Nicolai. We are the King’s guards, and he wants us to bring food to the girl.” Rolf says, smiling warmly at her.
“Her name is Calista, and what does the king want with her? Is she in danger?” She asks, while pulling cans of stew and soup out of the cupboard, and sets them inside a foraging bag and places it on the counter. Adding in more tea and coffee, she puts in a tin of milk and some utensils and tools she might find useful.
“She won’t be hurt, we only want to make sure she’s safe and not starving. We understand she hasn’t been treated well by the pack, and she might be afraid. The king has forbidden us from approaching her.” Rolf says, causing Sarah to look at him trying to discern if he is truthful.
“We can see that she is important to you. We are dropping this food off, and staying to watch her a while, and see that she is safe and unhurt. The King expects our reports later.” Nicolai says, putting the bag over his shoulder.
“She will likely be afraid of you and may be defensive. The alpha put fear into her mind, telling her that he hoped the Rogues would kill her, like they did her mother.” She says handing them a few sandwiches wrapped in cloth. “Those are for you. Can’t have King Magnus to think I would starve his warriors. Follow the deer trail north. You’ll climb a large hill, and the cabin will be tucked into the tree line across from a meadow with a stream. She’ll need water, the shore would be the ideal place to put that. I hope she is safe.” Sarah says.
“Thank you, you have been most helpful. We will be sure to tell the King in our report.” Rolf says before they leave.
Calista walks through the meadow, holding her arms out slightly, letting her hands rake through the long grass.
“That must be her.” Rolf says.
“She looks like she’s at peace out here.”
Calista catches the faint scent of wolves, and her stomach twists into knots as her mind races. ‘That must be the Rogues, Alpha threatened me with.’ Her panicked mind begins to race with thoughts of deadly scenarios, mostly ending in her death.
“Not Rogues. Not Dark Moon pack either.” Onyx says on full alert.
Calista tries to turn and walk back to the cabin as calmly as she can.
“I hope they go away, whoever it is. I don’t want the Alpha’s wrath in a couple of days.” She says.
“They might be a friend.” Onyx says, causing Calista to quietly laugh. “Who would be my friend, besides you of course.”
“Sarah is our friend, so is Katie.” Onyx says, making Calista smile as she walks up to the cabin and goes inside. She shuts and bolts the door, and then pushes an ancient dingy curtain aside just enough to see outside and watches for a while.
“She’s quite timid, I thought I saw fear cross her face.” Nicolai says stretching.
“I saw that too, let’s get back to the packhouse, King Magnus is expecting us.
They both shift, Rolf a great tan and white wolf and Nicolia into a dark brown with black tip on his ears. They take off running through the forest, following the deer trail. They make it to the edge of the tree line, and shift back. They find the shorts they stashed by a tree, and pull them on before walking out of the trees toward the packhouse.
They walk straight to their rooms, shower and put on fresh clothes before going to see Magnus.
Before they can reach the office, there is a commotion in the living room.
“What is the meaning of this! I am the Luna of this pack! You will pay for this!” Madeline shrieks, holding several shopping bags with Miranda following and carrying bags of her own.
“Get your hands off of my mother! My father is the Alpha and he will have you tortured!” Miranda shouts, as she tries to wriggle free of Cedric’s large hand gripping her upper arm like a vice. He chuckles, and then smirks at her. “Your pathetic father has no power here. You go before the Alpha King.” Cedric says, dragging them both to the former alpha’s office.
Finn opens the door, and Cedric shoves them through the doorway.
Magnus looks irritated at the interruption. He grins as she sees Madeline and Miranda pick themselves up off of the floor. “Sit!” Magnus demands in his alpha voice. Both immediately obey.
“What is the meaning of this? Where is my husband?” Madeline demands.
King Magnus looks at her, a look of amusement flashes over his expression. “Who are you to make demands on me, The Alpha King?” He questions, and he leans in seeking the answer.
“I am the Luna of this pack, that is who.” She snaps back.
“Former. You are the disgraced former Luna. This pack now belongs to me, and I am annexing it into the Royal Pack.
“You can’t do that! Daddy promised it to me. My mate is supposed to become the next Alpha.” Miranda stammers, looking more like a six year old, than a young woman of 16 years.
“Your father will be executed, and you and your mother will become Omegas. You will each be given a room in the Omega house and issued a uniform. You both will work as maids, and you will do the dirtiest of jobs. Your days as a narcissistic princess are over. Now, I see why this pack is nearly broke. It must be nice, that you were spoiled rotten, while your half-sister was forgotten and abused.” He says looking at them, and then Finn.
“Their rooms are ready for them, a uniform is laying on the bed.” Finn says.
“Good, but they are to spend one month in the cells. To pay for how they have treated Calista. And if I find out that Madeline had a hand in Cassandra Blackheart”s murder, you will face the same fate as your husband.” Magnus says authoritatively.
