Mated Redemption

Cassie     I live in a world built on social hierarchy, consisting of Alphas, Betas, and Omegas. Alphas held the highest status, they had the strongest connections with their inner wolves due to their pure blood line. They were the leaders of the pack and always male. Betas were next in line, falling just short of Alphas. They still had a strong connection with their wolves but did not radiate power like an alpha due to their weakened blood line caused by years of breeding with other Betas and Omegas. This class consisted of both females and males. At the very end of the spectrum laid Omegas. Their blood lines have became a muddied mess through out the years due to have limited mating options. They also held the least connection with their wolves; to the point where they typically only experienced mating bonds, heats, and ruts, but lacked the physical strength and speed that Alphas and Betas possessed. Most Omegas mated other Omegas, with the occasional Betas popping up, and Alphas were only ever known to mate Betas. Due to this it was not rare for a Omega mated Beta to reject their mate for another beta or even an unmated elder Alpha.     To reject a mating would to be losing your second soul, most suffer greatly at least till accepted as a mate by another. In my case this couldn't be any more true, on the day of my 18th birthday I went through the worst pain of my life. I'd woken up that day filled with the nerves of a naïve little girl. There was no guarantee I would find my mate that day seeing as the bond was not triggered until seeing your mate and may not even trigger then if they had not come of age yet, but I couldn't help but be giddy over the fact that there was finally a chance it could happen. I tried my absolute best to dress up the white button up top and green plaid skirt that was my school uniform, applying a light amount of make up and curling my chestnut locks. Looking over myself in the mirror I couldn't help but to smile. I still looked plain, thanks to my omega genes, but the make up gave my face a little more shape and life and the curls gave my normally pin straight hair a bit more volume. Today I might have been plain but at least I was beautifully plain.     "Big day is it?" My mother greeted me with a smile as I bounded down the stairs.     "Of course mom, I'm 18 now. I'm grown and its mating day" I responded as I grabbed a plate and collected a couple of pancakes and a heaping spoonful of scrabbled eggs onto it. If anything was certain my mother was a wonderful cook and always had breakfast ready for me and dad in the morning.        "Now, now hun don't get your hopes up. What have we told you before?" my dad states as I round the table and take my place. "You may not meet your mate today, this week, this moth, or even this year. Some never meet them and end up mating another unmated."     "I know dad, I just can't help but be excited... call it teenage foolery if you like, but I know its not guaranteed" I stated scooping a bite of eggs into my mouth.      "You're father's not trying to scare you just protect you. We don't want to see you hurting if it doesn't happen like you're expecting it to" she explained with a sweet smile.     "I know, and I'm thankful for it. I love you both and know you just want the best for me" I stated reaching across the table and squeezing her hand.     "Good now for the exciting stuff. Me and your father will have your present ready for you after school today. I honestly can't wait to see your reaction" she said cheerfully as we all returned to our meals.     The rest of breakfast passed by with happy light hearted chatter and before too long it was time for me to get to school. We didn't live to far from the school, about a 5 minute walk to be exact, so I typically chose to walk instead of taking the bus especially since it was finally spring and the weather was getting quite nice. So once again I made the walk to school, though this time I stayed observant in order to not miss any signs of my mate. There was no changes by the time I made it to school though, and I released a small sigh as I walked through the front doors and made my way to my locker.      Opening my locker I slowly unloaded my books into their proper places, jumping slightly when I heard a rather loud crash. "f*****g loser" a familiar voice chuckled as I turned my head towards the source of the sound, one of my fellow omega male students was collecting his books off the ground, but that wasn't what I was focused on as my skin warmed and my heart beat picked up. Standing beside the boy was no other than Axle Vanderbilt, the so called "King" of Vander High and yes the son of the principle of the school. He'd been the bane of mine and every other omegas' existence at that school and now all I could feel was my wolf calling for him. Moments later his eyes raised to meet mine and I watched as a chill ran through him before he shot me a deadly disgusted look. Without a single word he turned and left leaving his companions of brainless followers just as confused as I was.
