Awake
“She’s moving!” Elana sturs and slowly opens her eyes. She finds herself in a small brick room which is empty apart from the bed she is laying on and a single chair on the opposite side of the room. Her eyes were still glazed over but she could see a figure of a small boy leave the chair and run towards the door. “Peter! She’s moving” the boy screamed, slamming the door closed behind him. Elena hears the door lock and then nothing, complete silence. She sits up to get a clearer view of the room. The bed she is on has what looks like an old blanket folded up to act as a pillow and a thin sheet covering the frame. Elena sits there examining the room and trying to remember how she got there, but comes up blank. She is so deep in thought she doesn’t hear the door unlock and a tall, slender man enters the room. “Good to see you have finally woken up” the man said, smiling at Elena. He walks closer but stops when he notices Elena back up into the corner of the bed. “No need to worry, you're safe. Here” The man places a glass of water and a plate with a sandwich onto the chair near the door. “You must be starving” The man pushes the chair up next to the bed then walks back leaving Elena space to grab the food and water. She is hesitant at first, but then Elena’s stomach grumbles. The man smiled and tried to hide his laugh. “Please help yourself”. Elena grabs the plate and slowly eats the sandwich while keeping her eyes on the man leaning on the door on the other side of the room. “Hopefully you like it. We were not expecting you to wake up so I just had Robert put something together quickly for you. I can ask him to make you something else if you prefer”. “No, this is fine” Elena whispered in between bites. The man smiles and sits down on the floor trying not to stare at her too much, and lets Elena eat in silence. Once finished Elena places the plate back on the chair and retreats back into the corner of the bed. “So…” The man starts to say something but stops himself and quickly stands up and places his foot against the door, stopping it from being opened all the way.  A deep male voice is heard on the other side of the door. “I heard she's awake.” The slender man turned towards Elena. “I will be back in a few moments. Would you like anything else to eat?” Elena shook her head. The man smiles back at her “I won’t be long”. He turns back around and leaves, closing the door behind him, and she hears the door lock again.
