The Queen and Her Protector

Chapter 3

As soon as Neil came into the house Serena knew he was too late. Charlie had accidentally destroyed their son and activated her powers through no fault of her own.

“Did you see it happen?”
Neil couldn’t even look at Serena, he was too ashamed.

“No Serena but by him kissing her, I saw it and I couldn’t stop…”

Neil couldn’t even say it, making Serna turn to the barn to see what exactly had left her husband so distraught. When she got there, she saw Adam carrying Charlie in his arms. Never in her life had she been so grateful to see Adam. Serena rushed to them, touching her son’s face then his arms, thanking God for sparing him.

“Adam what happened? Your dad said…”

Serena walked next to Adam, holding his arm in hers. Adam could understand his mother’s closeness, truth be told he had been scared as well but there was no time to think.

His fear though had not been his life though but the fear that she had no feelings for him.

Adam couldn’t go on ignoring his parents; also he couldn’t lie to them anymore.

“I activated her power but it’ll probably stay dormant until she realizes that she loves me.”

Serena accepted his answer and said nothing as they walked, and if Adam thought that she was keeping quiet about all this he had another thing coming.

Adam took Charlie to her bedroom and laid her down gently, he could feel Tyler summoning him, probing his mind but he shook Tyler off.

“Not now, I have to deal with my parents.”

Adam felt Tyler probing even more this time; clearly Tyler wanted to talk but now was not the time.

Adam left Charlie on her bed and went downstairs to talk to his parents; he sat them down and told his parents what he had done willingly without any one of them knowing including Charlie.

Serena stood up and went to hit him on the head.

“I’m just glad you’re alive Adam, I’m angry as well…”

Serena sat back down, absorbing all this information, her son was old enough to make his own decisions but a consultation would have been great.

“Honestly Adam I could hurt you right now; I mean what the hell were you thinking?”

Neil put his hands on Serena’s shoulders, trying to relax her as well as himself. They had to be calm about this, rational.

“Son why didn’t you come to us?”

Adam sat down, this whole day had been draining from the minute Tyler had come to warn him about Charlie. He had been woken up by Tyler telling Adam it was time to act or lose Charlie forever. That Charlie was planning on kissing William and that there was a slight possibility that William could become her love and protector.

Adam had fought with Charlie physically, verbally and it felt at some point emotionally as well.

Adam felt Tyler probing once more, he hated that Tyler was now connected to him. He ignored Tyler’s probing again.

Adam brought himself back to the lounge; he knew his dad would have tried to stop him, his mom even more so. They would have said let fate decide but they didn’t understand the love he had for Charlie. How could he begin to explain what he felt for her?

“There wasn’t time, Tyler approached me this morning telling me Charlie planned on kissing William so I had to act now or let her go forever because she had feelings for him.”

Adam covered his face with his hands and groaned, this day had stressed him as well. Unfortunately he didn’t have time to analyse about the consequences of the aftermath.

Serena frowned at Adam.

“Who is Tyler?”

“He is her guide from Venus; we started making contact a while back. We’ve been consulting and talking about Charlie and I’ve been learning.”

Neil had feared that this would happen and now that he saw the chemistry between them he understood his son’s actions. No matter how scared he was for Adam, he had to give his son the benefit of the doubt.

“Rena, he’s in love, we couldn’t have stopped him no matter what.”

Serena couldn’t believe this, did Adam really even know what he was doing.

“What now Adam, what happens to you and Charlie?”

“She has to be trained to fight, to rule and I must be with her every step of the way, guiding her as well as protecting her. She needs me as I do her.”

Serena scoffed; her son was a simpleton if thought it was that straightforward.

“Do you have any IDEA what you’ve done? You’ve put yourself in danger, as well as Charlie and now what? We put our trust in these people who we know nothing about. You are crazy if you think for a second I’m just supposed to just go along with this, the two of you have another thing coming.”

Serena got up and walked away, Adam let her go, it was best his mom didn’t know how risky this actually was.

“Dad I’m sorry I didn’t come to you but I couldn’t let another love Charlie, protect her. It’s insane I know…”

“But you love her. Hey man I may get it but she isn’t quite ready yet so maybe just keep all this to a minimum.”

Tyler tried one final time to get Adam’s attention; he poked Adams nerve so Adam could feel it, painfully.

“Dad I have to go.”

Adam rushed to his room and gave permission for Tyler to appear.

“What is it? Don’t you ever hurt me like that again.”

Tyler bowed his head toward Adam.

“I apologize for my method sire but you need to go see Charlie now.”

“What’s wrong?”

Tyler didn’t know how to say this, there was a great risk involved. Adam saw Tyler struggle to speak and he was growing impatient.

“I command you to speak Tyler.”

Tyler had to oblige his master, the protector who was Adam.

“Her Highness is in danger, it seems the medicine you gave her boosted her immune system and launched the second power into gear, she needs your essence to save her.”

Adam rubbed his temple; he didn’t think or take note of the side effects of the sedative.

“I’ll go see her now.”

Adam left his room and went to find Charlie. He knocked on her door, to his surprise she opened but she didn’t look so good, she was clammy, her skin was pale.

Adam caught her just as he stepped in the room; he carried her to the bed. This time he summoned Tyler and he appeared.

“What’s happening?”

“Sire she is in agony, you need to kiss her again to stabilize it otherwise she will continue to suffer, it will only take a small piece of your essence, you will need to pull away before she consumes you.”

Adam nodded and had Tyler disappear; once he knew Tyler was gone he began kissing her wrists then he moved to her neck then her lips. Adam felt her lips moving with his and felt her hold his face.

“Come back to me kitten.”

Adam continued to kiss her; he felt her rise from the bed and sit on his lap. She moulded herself to him; she tasted so sweet to him.

They poured all they had into that kiss, literally letting their lips do all the talking.

Charlie let the tip of her tongue slide gently along the roof of Adam’s tongue, it made Adam growl at her ministration.

She could feel herself wanting him and knew she couldn’t help it. Adam felt her taking in his essence; he didn’t want to alarm her so he pulled back slightly.

Adam examined her, she looked much better than before and he didn’t feel Tyler probing so that must have been a good sign.

Charlie caught sight of Adam and frowned; she whispered his name and fainted in his arms. Adam placed her in bed, covering her up he kissed her forehead and left. That had been a close call.

Charlie woke up sweating; she fixed her gaze on her surroundings. She was in her room; the moon was awfully bright tonight because she could see clearly in the darkness.

Charlie got out of bed and went to the kitchen, she needed a drink. She couldn’t decipher if the images in her head were from a dream or if she had actually kissed Adam. The part where she was surrounded by a magical bubble was super ridiculous but so cool.

She opened the fridge and grabbed some juice, after that she walked to the cupboard, climbing onto the counter to reach for some chips. When she came down she lost her balance and fell down.

Luck was on her side because before she could hit the floor she was caught and when she looked up to see who it was, she saw him.

“Hey kitten.”

Charlie didn’t know why but now that word made her blush as well as being held by Adam. She shuffled out of his arms, grabbing the chips and juice and scurried to her room.

Adam caught her arm up the stairs, frowning at Charlie.

“Why are you running away?”

Charlie felt so embarrassed, if she asked him one of two things would happen. She would either be very embarrassed or well, damn it. Charlie motioned with head that she was going to her room.

Adam trailed behind Charlie, when they got to her room she placed her stuff on the bedside table. She switched on the light, sitting on the bed to face Adam who was standing at the edge of her bed.

“So this a little embarrassing, I’m not sure what’s going on but uhm oh goodness… I’m not sure… Did we kiss, you and I? Because I woke up and it seemed so real…I mean I’m not sure if… Oh how do I put this without sounding like a maniac?”

Adam laughed at her frantic rambling, she was so adorable. He walked over to her and kissed her senseless, waiting patiently for her expression when he pulled away from their embrace.

“Adam…”

Charlie covered her mouth using her hands. Adam rubbed her chin with his thumb; he couldn’t possibly tell her everything now.

She wasn’t ready at all; she needed to live a bit more. He kissed her hair, took her fingers and played with them. Charlie felt vertiginous, happy to such an extent that she could have been glowing.

One minute William was all she could think about and now it seemed Adam filled every space in her head like he had obliterated any memory of William.

And how on earth had she even thought of Adam like that, she had always told herself that he was off limits to her.

This was one of those times where it appeared as if you were having an out of body experience and things just went crazy.

It was insane how she was wrapping her head around this and still be okay with it all and he was doing the same thing as if this was something they did on the regular.

She focused all her concentration on Adam when he spoke.

“I was extremely jealous of you and William so I fought with you, verbally and physically.”

A shiver of awareness prickled her skin as she witnessed the ardent gaze he slid across her body.

Charlie moved her head in a way that made her believe this was foreign to her but also familiar at some level.

Adam pushed her onto the bed, touching her thighs ever so provocatively then he moved her arms to his shoulders so she could cling to him.

He ran his fingers delicately up and down her arms, making her tremble in his arms.

“I, my dear kitten could not stand you being with another man.”

He kissed her so sweetly she was captivated by his charm and endearing nature.

How was it possible to be seduced verbally and physically all at once?

He took a bite of her skin on her neck before he went back to her luscious lips.

Charlie pressed her body closer to his, loving the consistency of him. A thought occurred to her.

“Adam do I have powers?”

“Like a superhero? Not that I know of.”

Adam laughed at her and Charlie felt like an imbecile for even saying it out loud, she just thought if the kiss was real then maybe the other parts of her imagine were too but clearly not.

Adam pulled back from her and just gazed in her eyes; he squeezed her hands and placed her properly onto the bed where they cuddled.

“You settled in right?”

“No.”

Adam chuckled a bit, rubbing her hips gently.

“Give it some time, you’ll settle down.”

“I don’t think so.”

Charlie tried to turn around but Adam stopped her, she tried another time but he stopped her once more.

“Charlie trust me, it’s safer this way. I saw your acceptance letter from Oxford, congratulations.”

“Thank you, William and I are both going.”

That got his attention because he turned her around to face him pretty fast.

As soon as he did he realized she was baiting him. If a reaction is what she wanted then he’d give her a good one.

Adam laughed at her lyrically, giving Charlie a look she’d never seen before.

“That’s fine but he has to know kitten, you are mine, is that clear?”

Charlie swallowed as she slowly nodded, never before had a man captivated her like this, worse part was she liked it, a lot.

“How will it work?”

“You’ll go to classes during the day and have fun after.”

Charlie rolled her eyes, playing with his hair as she spoke to him. Adam gave a good throaty laugh when he felt Charlie’s cold feet rubbing against his.

He had always been in awe of how easy things had been between them but this was something else.

It amazed him that she could be so normal when they were clearly going to have a serious conversation.

“No silly, I mean with you and I.”

Adam rubbed her cheeks gently, giving a facial expression like he was thinking deeply about this.

“Hmmm, I got a job transfer to Birmingham, found a place in Edgbaston, Wellington Road.”

“Got it all figured out, don’t you?”

“Of course I do, did you really think I’d let you go it alone?”

“No.”

Charlie shook her head and giggled, in this moment nothing could have been better.

Charlie held Adam’s wrists then gently kissed his shoulder.

“So tell me more about this course.”

“Well it’s a four year Master of Physics, what really drew me in was the title; Atmospheric, Oceanic and Planetary Physics. I just really want to know more about how things work, how the world works or the universe works.”

Adam let her speak until she actually put herself to sleep by talking. Adam got up and bid her goodnight by kissing her hair. He left the room once he knew she was fast asleep.
