Prologue
Nina and Max looked at each other in silence as their hands touched. They both knew that this was the end of the road for them both because Nina had foreseen it.
She didn’t know exactly how they would die but she had a very strong feeling that it would be quick and powerful enough to cause an earthquake as Nina’s powers would be released.
As soon as Nina had told Max about her vision, Max had Donald and Petra make contingency plans for their seven year old daughter, Charlie.
Max had asked the O’Reillys’ not tell both Nina and himself so that the Krasinkis’ wouldn’t be able to know the whereabouts of Charlie or get their grimy paws on what they were looking for.
They did it this way because the Krasinki twins had connected to Nina’s thoughts with their mind control device.
Nina thought about Charlie and how much she loved her daughter. Nina hoped with all her heart that Charlie would live a wonderful care free existence. Nina had a few things to say to her beloved husband before time was up. Max shook his head; of course his wife would choose this exact moment to tell him her last words.
“You don’t have to say it Nina, I know exactly what you’re going to say.”
Max tapped his forehead with his index finger, if he leaned against her forehead he’d be able to hear exactly what she wanted to say. As her soulmate, they were linked that way. Max took her hand, squeezing it as he looked at her, not knowing that somehow it created a mind wall for them both. Nina felt the loss of the mind device, by using her gut feeling she placed her forehead on Max’s and immediately knew that they wouldn’t hear or know what her and Max were about to share. She spoke first, using their connection via the mind.
“We don’t have much time before they figure out about this wall. Is Charlie safe?”
“Yes, I love you so much Nina. There hasn’t been one moment with you that I’ve regretted. Us, our lives and having Charlie, I wouldn’t change a thing…”
Nina half smiled as she squeezed his hand.
“Are you going to take all the great lines?”
Max kissed Nina with all that he had, not dwelling on the fact that this was their last kiss, not caring about the figures heading their way.
Nina held onto Max until they were torn apart by one of the guards. She looked at Max and nodded in agreement with whatever he was planning with that look in his eye.
Max hit his head against the guard and grabbed the key, tossing it to Nina so she could free herself. Once she did, Nina hit the guard with two lightning bolts; the guard flew towards the wall and fell to the ground. As she turned to release the power onto Max’s guard, she heard a gunshot go off. Nina smiled as she turned to face Max but couldn’t comprehend what had just taken place. The guard had executed Max by shooting him point blank in the head. Nina watched as Max dropped to the floor, she saw the lines on Max’s face disappear and it destroyed her. Nina fell to the ground and let out a horrific scream that brought down the building on top of them, killing everyone within their vicinity.
