The Queen and Her Protector

Chapter 8

Charlie just stared at Tyler for a moment, that list didn’t sound like six powers at all, it sounded like 20 at least.

“Wow, Tyler how did Protector even know that I needed to control my powers?”

“I have been watching you since you were born, I am allowed to protect you till the age of 16 and thereafter you must look after yourself. I saw your life from here and decided to approach the Protector, he suggested that you live your life and he would how you say cover your responsibility. He enquired about everything which concerned you, him, the galaxy. He commanded when you went to the marines that I look after you but not interfere. I reported back to him that you were building small sparks in your sleep and he wanted to know how he could help. He truly loves you Your Highness.”

“Annoyingly so he does.”

Charlie though about Adam, she probably had to go find him, knowing Adam he was definitely pissed off at her.

“Okay training starts tomorrow morning and I have to now go find the protector.”

“As you wish Your Highness, rest well and may Venus shine upon you.”

Tyler bowed and disappeared, leaving Charlie to find Adam. She called him and he said he’d be by the room in a few minutes.

When Adam knocked on her door she opened it, she smiled at him.

Adam was not expecting that sweet smile to charm its way into his heart the way it did, damn her. He wasn’t going to let her off that easy.

“Tyler left?”

Charlie ignored his tone, waved for him to walk in to the room. She placed her arms around his neck, her fingers gave a small wave and the door closed. She hadn’t thought that it would work but it did.

“Yes I sent him away.”

“Hmmm.”

Charlie touched his face as she spoke.

“I am so sorry, I could’ve killed you and I wouldn’t have known it. Adam I was so utterly consumed by you when I summoned Tyler it was so that I could do better, with you. I was in a trance like state and all I wanted was you and nothing else.”

“You think I don’t know that, Charlie I am your protector not Tyler.”

Adam released himself from her hold, he was suddenly starting to get frustrated with all of this. Charlie looked at Adam, shaking her head.

“Adam come on, he can teach me things you can’t like how to not kill you. You’re going to be mad at me for that?”

“Yes I am, allow me to be pissed that I can’t help you, that I can’t guide you with this particular matter.”

Charlie supposed that was fair, clearly she had to learn how to fight not taking his essence. To master how it worked, Charlie held him from the back, hoping it was safer than holding him face to face.

“So are we cool?”

“We are. Charlie I’m going to sleep on the floor, we can’t risk being intimate but I also can’t risk leaving you alone. I am your protector.”

“And I am your queen, your life trumps my wants.”

“Your life is my life, your wants are my wants, your needs, Charlie stop me…”

“Adam…”

Charlie could see the sense in that but for some reason she wanted to ignore it, if she could just try to control her powers. Her train of thought was interrupted by Adam. He turned to face her, he held it and looked earnestly into her eyes, begging her not to chance it.

“Not yet my kitten.”

“Okay.”

Her mouth had agreed but her body took over once again and she splayed her hands on his chest, moving up to his shoulders. She felt his heart beating against her hands and she loved it. Charlie kissed his chest then moved to his lips, slowly proceeding back down his chest.

Before she knew it he was picking her up and putting her on the bed, kissing her so passionately her toes curled. She felt him whisper in her ear gently, Adam didn’t know where it was coming from.

“You are mine, I am yours.”

“Eternally, I render my soul, mind, heart and life to you.”

“I vow to protect your soul, mind, heart and life with that of my own and I offer my own to you.”

Unbeknown to Adam and Charlie a gold circle appeared on both their left wrists.

“I love you Adam.”

“I love you my…”

Before he could complete the sentence Tyler appeared.

“What have you two done?!”

Tyler looked at them in utter shock, they had just gotten married. Charlie rolled her eyes at Tyler, he had the worst timing ever. Charlie noticed that Adam hadn’t gone down to kneel like before.

“Tyler worst timing ever.”

“Your Highness I wish my timing was better, you just got married to King Adam. He is no longer just your protector but now part of your leadership. This was supposed to happen in a series of sequential steps. You train and control your powers, your inauguration, your marriage, your mating. You both have messed the entire order by stating those words.”

Charlie got up and went to Tyler.

“How come you can talk to me like that?”

“Because you have now made me your adviser and guardian for you both.”

Charlie stepped back and sat down on the bed where Adam was looking at her grinning. He pointed at her.

“You are my wife.”

Charlie leaned over and kissed Adam while Tyler rolled at his eyes at him, muttering under his breath.

“So Adam is my husband now from saying those words?”

“Those words have a significantly cherished meaning, once you say them you are bound to each other, forever.”

“Doesn’t sound like a bad deal, Adam?”

Adam drew her closer and looked at Charlie.

“How lucky am I?”

Before they could kiss Tyler separated them and took both their left hands to show them the golden circle. Charlie and Adam looked at each other and smiled. Clearly from their jovial banter they didn’t get the severity of the situation. Tyler beamed them to Venus, Charlie found her balance this time as they landed back on Venus.

“We need to get Charlie into battle training and power training as fast as we can King Adam.”

Adam looked at Tyler and sensed that this was not a happy moment as he and Charlie had thought.

“Shall she start with me or with Ian & Gavin?”

They walked to the training chamber where Tyler typed in the access code and motioned for them to go in.

“I think she should start with you, Your Majesty.”

Adam nodded and got to work in the room. He went to fetch both their training gear and gave Charlie hers which she accepted with reverence.

“Charlie put on your armour; we’re both going to need this.”

Charlie did as Adam had asked.

“Adam what’s happening?”

“I’m not sure; all I know is that you need to start your training with me immediately. Ian & Gavin will train you after I do. Charlie this training is going to be very intense so be prepared to get frustrated, be drained and immensely tired.”

“Adam this sounds very serious.”

Adam put on his gloves and activated the power within. He kissed her forehead and sighed.

“It is kitten, come on.”

Charlie followed him to the centre of the room and took her battle stance.

“What’s going to happen?”

Adam went to Charlie and turned her away from him. He placed her in the proper battle position then he spoke to her, walking around her.

“We’re going to concentrate on your controlling first before we can start any sort of fighting technique training. If you can’t control your power you cannot use it.

Think about like talking and breathing, as you speak you exercise control over your breathing to allow you to be able to articulate to others.”

“Shouldn’t I be…”

“Forget the million questions you want answered and listen carefully. Let’s try this, look at me. Hold your palms up and imagine tiny tornados emulating from your hands while swirling your hands in a circular motion.”

Charlie did as she was told and 2 massive tornados formed, she smiled at this the frowned as the tornados got out of hand. Adam came towards her and closed her hands; the tornados disappeared when her hands closed.

“You can’t afford to be excited, when you control your powers there are many things that are affected by it. Your emotions, your breathing, your state of mind, all of this affects every part of your powers. If you are heartbroken and you try to run a current you may end up electrocuting more than your desired target. That is why control is absolutely necessary.

Clear your mind, control your breathing, concentrate on the power you need and how you plan to use it. You see those targets to your left, destroyed all five using fire then control the fire by using your water power.”

Charlie tried to do as Adam had told her but she failed dismally. She tried to do this for the next few hours but did not succeed. Charlie either couldn’t control the fire or ended up filling the room with water.

Charlie tried one last time out of frustration and failed again.

“Adam I don’t understand.”

“You’re using your emotions incorrectly; your mind is not accepting this, your breathing is shot.”

Adam stood behind her and took control of her hands, showing her exactly how to use her hands while trying to control and use her powers.

“It’s like Tai Chi, for every moment…

“There’s a purpose.”

Adam smiled as she finally got the concept; everything she needed to gain control of her powers was within her. She just needed to tap into that particular skill.

“Try and contain your anxiety, breathe in and exhale and use that to your advantage.”

Charlie tried once more, conjuring up two fire balls she threw it at the targets and then she used one long rectangle water shape to take out the fire. After that Adam showed her the hand techniques to use for all her powers. By the time she was done she was really drained. Adam carried her to bed and went to stand guard by the door.

Tyler had alerted Adam that now that Charlie and Adam were married the galaxy defender selection had been moved up to 2 months from now. Tyler had informed Adam that many would come to Venus and try and kill Charlie and she had to be prepared for it all, hence all the new security measures and protocols. They spent the next five weeks working extremely hard on everything to do with her powers and using it. They were in the middle of battle tactics with Ian & Gavin. Tyler observed that Charlie easily defeated both him, Ian & Gavin all the time now. What she needed was an opponent that challenged her mind, her use of power and Adam was now their only option.

“Your Majesty, Your Highness I think you should fight each other, it is clear that you have defeated Ian, Gavin and myself countless times. You need to change it up and fight with someone who will challenge you. The risk is unlikely but we should try all our options.”
