The Queen and Her Protector

Chapter 6

Tyler touched both Charlie and Adam’s shoulders and disappeared with them. Charlie was freaking out but she heard Adam’s calming voice but he wasn’t speaking. What unreal dream was this and could she please wake up and have everything be normal.

Upon their arrival to wherever they were, the stranger spoke to Adam while she looked around.

They were in a massive, gigantic building, the windows so high as well as the wall. The building has space so huge it seemed to go on endlessly. She imagined the rooms were just as spacious as the passages she saw and there were so many passages. They were walking down the hallway and to Charlie it felt like she couldn’t control the freaking out part this time.

Charlie stopped walking, this was insane and the fact that Adam was going along with this was even crazier. Waving her hands from side to side, she spoke to them.

“Can one of you explain what is going on?”

Tyler turned towards Charlie.

“You will not be harmed, The Protector here has made sure of that.”

If Charlie was confused before she was definitely baffled now. How in the world was Adam a protector? And to who? What was her involvement in this shindig?

Adam held her hand as her powers began to manifest, one after the other and she watched in fascination. Charlie saw fire emulate from her hands then some sort of purple and blue electricity float about their hands like the ones she saw with that bubble thing but this time it moved around her hands for a few minutes then it disappeared when two tiny tornados formed and then it was gone.

“Adam what the hell?”

She wondered why Adam wasn’t hurt or her for that matter.

“Trust me kitten please.”

“Adam I’m supposed to just go along with this stranger and be cool? And what on earth was this? How are you not hurt? Fire came from my hands, currents flowed and didn’t hurt either of us!”

She removed her hand from Adam’s, Tyler sensed her refusal, her hesitation and used his power to put her to sleep.

“It was necessary sire, she wouldn’t have moved.”

Adam picked up Charlie, held her in his arms and followed Tyler. He had chosen to be her protector and this was his life now.

Years ago Adam’s dad had told him Charlie’s mom had come from Venus and that her family had been royalty for centuries and protectors of their planet as well.

But unfortunately with Charlie being royal, she needed protection from all the evil forces she would face. As a Royal Highness Charlie’s protector was chosen by her true love, only someone who truly loved you could have your back and that is how the council decided to activate the Royal Highness’ power.

Tyler alerted Adam that they were by the council where she would be initiated and they would explain everything to her, which was how it had always worked except all protectors had grown up on Venus.

Charlie’s mom however had found her protector on earth and he had been hers till the very end. The chairman of the council stood up from the balcony and motioned for Tyler to wake Charlie. Adam went to her side and grasped her hand.

“Welcome Charlie Willis, Your Royal Highness.”

Charlie woke up to a room as huge as a castle, it had a balcony surrounded by people with weird looking outfits. She looked around and saw the stranger they came with on one side of her and Adam on the other side of her. Charlie looked at the stranger on the balcony.

“I’m sorry what did you say?”

Adam turned to face her.

“Charlie I want you to listen please, I need you to listen to Tyler over here. He’ll explain what’s happening as best he can. Please, can you do that for me?”

The way his eyes were pleading spoke to her, it also calmed her down in a way it hadn’t before. It was like they were speaking a private language only they could hear and understand. She frowned when she heard him saying all is well and you will be fine but his lips weren’t moving again.

Adam sensed that she heard his thoughts and smiled as his fingers rubbed her cheek.

“So uhm don’t freak out, you can hear my thoughts when we hold hands or a hand, it’s part of our connection sort of like a love language. It was activated when I first kissed you. It’s okay my kitten, Tyler will help you from here.”

Charlie thought about the first kiss they shared all those years ago and how blurry her memory was afterwards, how she thought she had powers but he had scoffed at her. She wanted answers but clearly now was not the time so she would go with whatever Adam wanted and afterwards he would answer every damn question she had. He would explain this enormous hella s**t hole he had dug for himself.

Charlie watched Adam smirk at her comment then he nodded in agreement.

“Tyler I’ll go with you.”

Charlie watched Tyler turned and followed him into another isolated room that had no windows, a television hanging on the wall with a steel table and chair, it looked like an interrogation room. Charlie went to sit down in the chair and observed Tyler. He was quiet as he put on the television and pressed the volume and stood facing her with his hands behind his back.

Charlie saw her mother on the screen and started paying attention to her.

“Charlie my angel, if you’re watching this then unfortunately you’ve developed powers my love. This means you are now the Queen of Venus, its ruler and protector. I was the queen but when I came to earth to protect it, I found my true love, your father.

Sweetheart whoever you kissed first and he survived, that is your true love. When you kissed it may have activated your powers even though it might have stayed dormant, it will come to full force eventually. Your true love will love and protect you to the ends of the worlds, I pray it’s someone good and has your best interests at heart.

Do not be scared, your people will love you as you are the rightful queen. Trust in their trainings and be happy as I am. I love you so much baby, see you in the stars.”

Tyler watched Charlie blink back the tears from the video, switched off the screen and looked at her.

“Your Highness, there is another one from your father but it was said only you should see it. I swear that no one has seen it.”

Tyler handed her a memory stick and she accepted it.

Charlie’s mind was still buzzing from her mother’s news, she was the queen of an entire planet and she had powers. She had a shitload of questions that needed answers. Her mind was blown from all the information she was receiving in one day. When Adam had said she needed to catch up, he was not lying. She would start with the most important issue first. Charlie stood up, looking at Tyler.

“Queen, what does that mean?”

“It means you are the protector of this whole planet, you must do what you regard as necessary to keep away any forces you deem dangerous.”

That sounded like a massive responsibility, a whole planet to be concerned about and protect.

So many people to care for, see to and she didn’t know if she was ready for that. As a Lieutenant Colonel she was prepared for one day being in charge of a unit but millions of people.

“What exactly am I responsible for?”

“You make decisions about intergalactic wars, you protect this planet when the council deems it necessary, you are also up for the election of the galaxy defender, at some point you will have to stay here and rule Venus. You also have the choice to give it up like your mother.”

“Sounds like a queen bee title and my job is to make sure I feed you and protect my hive.”

Tyler smiled at her, she was smart. He could see why his King had not taken a chance to lose her.

“That’s the jest of it, right now you need training and Adam will help you with our ways.”

Charlie folded her arms and looked at Tyler with one eyebrow lifted.

“And how does Adam fit into all of this? Is he Venusian as well?”

“No, he is from earth. Adam is your true love, like you mother explained your power was activated when Adam kissed you. The way it works is, if he was not your true love and you kissed him the way you did, he would have been filled with the same energy you possess and died. It was decreed eons ago in order to find a loyal and faithful partner and protector for the ruler of Venus. A kiss is the most intimate way you can find out if someone is meant for you or not…”

Charlie interrupted Tyler, holding up her hand and shaking it.

“Wait a minute, are you saying if I didn’t love Adam he would have died. I would have killed him?!”

“Yes, Adam knew the risk when he chanced to kiss you. Once Adam found out about your heritage, he tried to make contact with the council. He thought it was best that you rather try with him than kill someone. He said he knew it would be a struggle for you and you would never have agreed to become the ruler.”

Adam was right about that last part, Charlie was completely baffled at Adam’s choice and very pissed off that he would make a decision like that without informing her. He knew all about this for years and he hadn’t said a word to her.

“Are rulers always women?”

“No, there has always been only one royal family and this is your family.”

“Can I speak to Adam?”

“Unfortunately not, we have a meeting with the council for your inauguration and also to get you up to speed as your powers are advancing. Only after that can you speak to your protector. Your Highness he is now known as protector, you cannot address him as Adam in front of anyone, not even me. Only in private and on earth may you call him Adam. Also there shall be no more intimate contact with Adam up until you can control your powers, you may still be capable of killing him.”

“You called him sire, why?”

“He was ruling Venus on your behalf as your partner while you were being prepared.”

Charlie followed Tyler out of the room and into a passage, the man walked extremely fast. She thought about Adam and how much talking they had to do.

“Okay, so what exactly are my powers, also what do I call you?”

“Your powers stem from the Venusian powers of love which was given in a form of a plant. I cannot tell you until we do the test. You can call me Tyler, the council stays the same whether it be one or many.”

They arrived back at the room where the council was where Adam was as well. They all greeted her and bowed including Adam, except Adam stayed on one knee, his arm on his knee and his head bowed down.

Charlie turned to Tyler, leaning over to talk to him.

“Why is Ada… Protector still on his knee?”

Tyler was impressed with her discretion and her ability to pick up things quickly.

“You must go and touch his left shoulder very lightly to let him know he may stand up.”

Charlie moved to Adam and did as Tyler told her, she watched Adam get up but not acknowledge her. He stood almost like a guard, this was starting to get too much.

“When can Protector and I go home?”

“As soon as you are updated with the latest news and requirements, Your Highness.”
