Before The End

One

The heat of the sun beat against his skin as he stood at the door of the mansion. Theirs was also big but this one was colossal. It looked more like a castle that housed a princess.

It probably does. Zack told himself.

Him, his brothers and his mom had just moved in a week ago. His mom said it was because of her new job, but the boys knew they were running. Well the older ones.

Zack had thought finding friends was going to be the hardest thing he'd have to do. Most kids his age were scared of him. That's because he rarely smiled outside the house. But the kid next door didn't show one once of fear. Jason, that's what he said his name was. He had invited Zack over to his house to play video games. That's why Zack was standing outside his door in the heat of the Miami sun.

"Hey Jason." Zack said greeting his new friend once he opened the door.

"Hi Zack." Jason responded letting him in. "Dad my friend and I are gonna be in our room!"

"Okay kiddo."

The two ten year olds made their way upstairs and into Jason's room. The pair had met earlier that week at school. Jason didn't really have any friends. He never really liked all the hyper kids in his class. So when the cool new kid from New York showed up, he decided to make Zack his new friend.

"Your room is awesome." Zack said as they entered Jason's room.

"Thanks my mom is the one who decorated it." Jason closing the door.

"Cool. Where is she?" His friend asked plopping down on the huge bed.

"Uhm she died last year." Jason said softly looking down.

"Oh. Well my dad died too so it's just me, my mom and my brothers." Zack said in an attempt to make his new friend know he understood his pain. The two were quiet for a minute, but it was a comfortable silence. That was until a short ball of energy in pink burst into the room.

"Jay Jay!" The tiny creature yelled jumping up and down. "Guess what! Guess what! Guess what?"

"What Kenzie?" Jason sighed.

"Daddy said he's taking us to Disney Land on Saturday." She smiled. Jason rolled his eyes but listened to his sister non the less.

All the while the pair talked, Zack couldn't help but stare at the pretty girl in front of him. She was in a pink tutu that she wore over leopard print leggings. An assortment of multicoloured beads hanging from her neck. Her brown hair tied in two adorable pigtails a tiara resting on her head. Her brown eyes sparkling as she talked to her big brother. Zack had never seen brown eyes like hers. And he felt kind of weird when he saw her smile. He thought she looked like a princess. A brightly coloured, over the top princess with zero fashion sence. After a while her eyes met his and she stopped talking. She tilted her head and a smile made its way on her pretty face.

"Who are you?" She asked.

"I'm Zack. Jason's friend." He said matching her smile.

"Do you want to come to Disney world with us Zack?" She asked sweetly.

"I don't know..."

"Good. I'll go tell dad Zack's coming." She announced before leaving the room.

"That's my sister McKenzie. You should just ignore her." Jason announced before the pair continued talking.

Deep down Zack knew he wouldn't ignore her. Because he liked her. And one way or another McKenzie Black was going to crawl her way into his heart. He was sure of it.

McKenzie landed on her butt in front of her father while attempting to twirl into the kitchen. He let out a soft laugh before picking her up. She giggled then held his face in her hands.

"Zack's coming with us to Disney land daddy." She announced.

"Who's Zack?" He asked putting her on the kitchen counter.

"He's Jay Jay's friend. I told him he could come with us."

"I'll have to talk to his mom or dad first and ask them."

"Let me do it." Kenzie said excitedly. "They won't say no to me."

"Oh, really. And why is that princess?"

Her father asked smiling.

"Because I'm adorable." She smiled.

"In dead you are." He said.

McKenzie was excited. She really wanted Jay Jay's cute friend to come with them. She was already planning a way to distract Jay and have him all to herself.
