The Rain That Brought Him Back
*THE RAIN THAT BROUGHT HIM BACK* The rain tapped gently on the window as Amara sat alone in the café, stirring her untouched coffee. She wasn’t waiting for anyone — at least, that’s what she told herself. But every time the door opened, her eyes flicked up, hoping it might be him. It had been two years since they’d last spoken, but some part of her hadn’t moved on. Amara was waiting for her first love, Nelson, who left her without a trace 3 years ago, but she couldn't bring herself to believe it was true. Amara, who was normally a bubbly person, became very moody because of that experience. She spent months trying to forget him — deleting his photos, ignoring old messages, pretending his absence didn’t hurt. But no matter how hard she tried, his smile always found its way back into her dreams. Now, as she stared out into the rain, a familiar voice behind her said softly, *"Amara?"* She froze. “Nelson!” she shouted at the sound, then whispered softly, "Is that you, Nelson?" Nelson hugged her from behind. She turned with tears in her eyes, overwhelmed. A flood of questions burst from her: "Where have you been? How are you? Why did you leave?" Nelson gently interrupted, “I’ll answer everything… but first, let’s sit down.” They sat across from each other, the silence between them louder than the rain outside. Amara's eyes were teary, filled with a mixture of anger, love, and confusion. Nelson reached for her hand — hesitantly — and said, *"I never wanted to leave you, Amara. Something happened… something I couldn’t control."* She pulled her hand back slightly, heart pounding. “Then tell me,” she said, her voice trembling. “I deserve the truth.” Nelson explained that he had to go to another country because his father didn’t approve of their relationship. He had threatened to disown him if he ever saw her again. They had met in secret before Nelson left, but once his father found out, he sent him abroad and made sure he couldn’t contact Amara — blocking every attempt. "You mean… all this time, you didn’t leave because you wanted to?" she whispered. Nelson shook his head slowly. "I tried to reach you, Amara. I wrote letters, begged my uncle to help, but my father had everything blocked. It was like being in a cage with no key." Tears slid down Amara’s cheeks. "I thought you stopped loving me..." "I never stopped. Not for a second," he said, pulling out an envelope filled with the letters he had written to her over the years. She gasped and sobbed as she opened one of them, reading his words filled with love, pain, and longing. At that moment, all the walls around her heart melted. The years of pain gave way to healing. And in that quiet café, beneath the rain, the couple finally reunited. *— The End* ❤️
