Chapter 17: Scared

1255 Words
Gwy's POV I gasped for air as I woke up from that dreadful slumber. It took me a while before I could breathe properly. Beads of sweat were all over my temples. When I realized that no one is around, I sighed in relief. At least it's just a dream. It was my first time to be feeling like that in a dream. Scared. Frantically scared to death. I've never dreamt of someone violating me before. I'm a lucid dreamer so I know how dreams work. But this one was different of all the dreams I encountered. It was something ominous and dark. It feels like it has been with me since then that it was awaken from a deep slumber. It was a weird feeling. I still feel the goosebumps coming up behind me. I looked around and noticed that Devon was not around. He must've gone out since I passed out. It was 2 in the morning but I can't go to sleep anymore. I'm afraid that the dream would come again when I close my eyes. I feel so alone. I hugged myself, frantically shaking. Ever since Devon tried to touch me that day, that dream suddenly popped up out of nowhere. I doubt that it was from my subconscious mind trying to bug me. I knew it's something that was triggered. Suddenly, I felt Grace coming out. "Gwy, are you alright? What happened?" she asked worryingly. "Did you see it? The dream..." "Dream? What dream? Did you have a dream?" I creased my forehead in confusion. "It's more like a nightmare. Wait, are you serious right now? Did you see it or not?" "Geez, Gwyneth Hathaway! I didn't. All I saw was a blank canvas during my sleep. You didn't dream last night. I swear!" "But I did! I saw my own body. I saw a shadow trying to... trying to kiss me..." I hugged myself after realizing how frightened was I during that dream. "Are you sure? But how could I not see it, too? That's impossible!" Grace became worried, too. It's normal that our wolves see our dreams. That also applies to a shaman like me. Our wolves may even go inside the dream and lucidly remember every scene from it. But what happened to me just now isn't normal anymore. It was like someone blocked Grace while I was asleep, making me alone and disconnected. "What does your dream have to do with the spell around Black Dew Pack?" Grace inquired. "I don't have any idea, Grace. I mean... can other witches do this to others? Block the wolf from seeing my dream?" I have no idea about other witchcraft tricks from other regions. I've only known Eastern Shamanism by heart and knowing about this seemed absurd. I've never encountered a witch that has the ability to do that, too. All I know is that some creatures can manipulate other's dreams. These creatures can either be the Moon Goddess or the devil. That idea didn't appeal to me. If it was the Moon Goddess, it would never be something scary. But the devil? Why of all creature would block my wolf for that particular dream? I stared at the ceiling for the nth time before I decided to go out and take a short walk. I could see tuxxed werewolves guarding the packhouse scattered around. They didn't mind me walking around. I found my way to an empty and dark path. At the end of it, I saw a familiar tall body built. He wore a black and golden colored robe. As soon as he heard my footsteps, he looked over his shoulder and creased his forehead at me. "What are you doing here? It's still early. You should go back to sleep." Devon's voice became gentler unlike before. It's uncharacteristically him, needless to say. He was always ill-tempered around me. I noticed his troubled face as well. He looked like he didn't take a sleep at all. "I just woke up. How about you? You seem like didn't get a wink yourself. What are you doing out here?" I asked back. "You will never know. I've always been sleepless. That's what Alphas are most of the time. Thinking about the pack's future and safety," he answered coolly. "I see. You have a knack of boasting even in this tiniest detail," I sarcastically remarked. "Anyway, do you have a topic in mind?" He scoffed. "I'm not here to chitchat with you, priestess. Go back to your room and leave me alone." "Well, it's better to talk than to just stare at nothingness. I think we have to share as much as that since you're so eager to make me your luna." I rolled my eyes after saying that. He looked at me for a moment then returned his gaze to the empty canvas of the night. "I'm really curious about your power, Gwy." "Hmm... what do you want to know?" "I wanted to doubt on what you said to me back at the temple before. But still, I want to ask you this... Am I really mateless?" I suddenly blushed at the question. Good thing I'm good at avoiding gazes. I can't afford to blow up my cover or I'm doomed. Damn this man! Why is he suddenly asking me about that? I was on the verge of completely letting it all behind me now, but now he's bringing it up again. "Why are you suddenly asking me that? You know the answer. You're mateless," Liar! I shouted to myself. "Are you really me telling me the truth?" "Y-yes. Why would I be lying to you?" "Because I don't trust witches like you." He looked away with his brows furrowed in anger. I crossed my arms on my chest and rolled my eyes. "Talking grand now, huh? Why did you even ask for my help to find your mate if you don't even trust me?" "Because I'm desperate. I told you that my father is pestering me and threatens to refute my position as the alpha of the pack. My pack's norm is all about marriage and full control. My being the alpha of this pack depended on my fated mate. If not, I will have to choose one that I should marry," he said in a long statement. "So? I totally didn't get why I should be the one to pose as your chosen mate. You know about being a Solus Lupus. I am not allowed to be mated until my dying breath!" "That's why you're the perfect candidate." He smirked. "What?" "You are born to be alone and I am mateless. That means you're the perfect chosen mate for me. I won't have any trouble about someone suddenly finding her own mate when I already made her my luna. That's why it's important that it should be you, Gwy." He stared into my eyes deeply. I feel like I'm drowning. I can't say a word to him. I just opened my mouth to say something but failed to even utter a word. What's happening to me? "If Moon Goddess forbids this, I'd be willing to face her. Because no matter how much she wanted to stop me, I will still be coming for you." Suddenly, he cupped my chin and turned my head up a little. He slowly advances to me until I can feel his breath brushing against my skin. "My priestess, there's no other luna for me. It's only you. You're perfect for me..."
