She brings herself to talk to me about what trauma she just caused. Unfulfilling words that promise me it would never happen again and how she loves me beyond belief. Lies. Flash forward, we have moved out of my grandmothers. My mother has a boyfriend that comes around once in awhile. He comes by one day, and I go out and talk to him. He’s just about to leave and I stay out there to wave him off. Feelings of happiness flow through me. Life is good. Moms happy, and I’m happy. “Marie! Don’t you f*****g see? He won’t kiss me if you’re around! Get away!” Oh, okay. I’m sorry mom. Im my parents pawn. The other parent only wants me when the other is busy. Constant fights, and turmoil. My only escape is my friendships at my school. A few kids become my lifeline. Tanner Arthur Emily My best friend Tanner becomes my absolute rock. Life becomes a little bit more manageable with him in it. He knows when I’m sad, and makes me laugh endlessly. The day I met him I saw him over by the tire swings in our elementary school play ground. I said to my friend, “I really want to go hangout with him” That’s all I needed!
