"Goddess, child! Is that what you are wearing to school?" Cheryl chastised me about my choice of outfit.
"It's laundry day. I don't have much for clothes that actually fit well." I told her shyly. I walked over to the counter to where she had a bagel and cream cheese sitting out for me; one of my favorite breakfast foods. I scarfed the bagel down and drank the glass of milk she had placed in front of me.
"Child, if you don't slow down, you're going to choke." She said, eyeing me down.
"I want to leave before Hannah does, so she doesn't get to gang up on me with her possè." I said. It was fact that they liked to start their morning doing something to me.
"Well, get going then. Don't worry about having to clean up in here either. The girls and I have it covered." She smiled at me while shooing me out of the kitchen.
I went to my room and grabbed my bag and checked myself in the mirror one last time. This was the best I was going to get. I sighed and looked at the clock. I needed to head out now to beat Hannah. I was not in the mood to deal with her shenanigans or her possè.
School was not that far of a walk and it was very nice out this early summer morning. It was my senior year and I'll be turning 18 shortly after. Then shortly after that was the annual Mate Ball held by the king and queen in hopes their people find their fated. I held a small smile on my face as I walked only to be shaken out of my thoughts by the Goddess-awful horn on Hannah's Jeep.
Fuck....
She flew past me and I could tell she was laughing. She must have known I would leave early today. Another 15 minutes pass by and I see a vehicle coming down the road. I prayed silently to the Moon Goddess it wasn't them, but I couldn't get so lucky. She came speeding up and if I didn't jump into the bushes just off the road, she would have hit me. I struggle in the bushes to get myself out, not paying attention that she had stopped a short ways away. Suddenly, I felt two sets of hands on me, pulling me up and out of the bush.
"Well, well, well, look what we have here. If it isn't the charity case herself." Matt smirked as he and Chester shoved me down onto the road. I landed on the rough surface, groaning as my hands and knees collided with it, scraping them up.
"Cut it out." I whispered. I rolled myself over to where I was now sitting on the pavement, looking up at them. There stood Hannah, Quirina, Leslie, and Saira in a half circle around me, followed by Matt and Chester behind me. All of them laughing maniacally.
"What are you going to do about it?" Quirina taunted. Leslie was the first to strike and I didn't see it coming. Her leg came out and kicked me right in the side. I wrapped my arms around my stomach and fell over on my side. I gasped before gritting my teeth, trying not to cry out but the tears threatened to fall. I closed my eyes and tried not to cry. I could hear them laugh some more.
"I'm tired of this thing getting in my way every day." Hannah said as I tried to sit up, wincing at the pressure of the pavement on my scraped hand.
"I hardly see you!" I yelled at her and tried to stand up. As I got to my feet, a hand collided with my face with a loud smack. I could swear it was loud enough that it echoed off the trees.
"How dare you back talk me, you little b***h!" Her voice was loud and shrill. "I think it's time you learn your place. Permanently."
Before I could move away, my legs were kicked out from under me, landing me on my hip with a sharp pain. I let out a cry but it was quickly silenced as someone kicked me in the stomach. I rolled over with a grunt, trying to catch my breath. Suddenly, my face was met with a foot. I could feel my nose break and the warmth from the blood running down my face. My eyes had closed a long time ago and I dared not to open them while laying there, listening to them laugh. After a moment, I was lifted to my knees by my hair.
"You should always be on your knees. It's a good place for you." Chester laughed. I opened my eyes and was met face to face with him. "I'm sure with some persuasion, that mouth of yours would be a great suck too. Not that I would want to try." He smiled before spitting in my face, making me flinch slightly.
"I wouldn't let you touch her anyways, babe. Who knows what she's carrying." Quirina spoke up, causing the others to laugh. "Poor unwanted mutt."
I had no idea where they got that notion from. I've never even kissed anyone let alone been touched in any way. I closed my eye as tears dripped down my face, mixing with the blood. With a sudden jerk upward, I could feel Matt locking my arms behind me, forcing me to stand up. With a free hand, he reached up and gently moved my hair from my neck and placed a gentle kiss on my bare flesh. I felt like I was going to throw up.
"Stop..." I whispered, too dizzy to pull away.
"Oh, that's gross, Matt. You better wash your mouth out before you even think of kissing me again." Hannah laughed. Matt chuckled along with her as he nipped at my neck.
"She needs to learn her place. Perhaps a personal slave with a forced mark?" Matt teased in my ear. I could feel my heart race faster in my chest and I tried to pull away.
"We're going to be late." Leslie finally spoke up, bringing them back to the job at hand. "I really don't feel like doing any more detention time. We got two weeks left until we graduate. Let's just finish this." She spoke as she looked at her nails, acting as if this was a burden on her.
Suddenly my arms were pulled so hard and high up that they popped out of place. I cried out at the pain right before there was another blow to my stomach to shut me up. Matt held me firmly as my body wanted to double over. From the force of the hit, I knew it was Chester. They were out to do some real damage this time. After a few more punches to my face, Matt finally dropped me. I landed with a thud, my head coming in contact with the road beneath me. I rolled over a bit and groaned, letting them know I was still alive.
"Drag her to the river. She can't swim. If she can't swim, she can't squeal." Hannah said as she pushed me onto my back with her foot.
Matt, with one arm and Chester with the other, dragged my limp body towards the Shenowah River. It didn't take them much effort to get me there or to life my small body over the rail. I could hear them laughing and cheering just as they let me go, letting me fall to the wild river below.
