Chapter 6 (No Byes) EVIARAH “Then, can I stay next to you?” he asked breathlessly. “Huh? What next to me?” I asked confused. I felt my heart reacted to his words and I don’t know why. He totally knocked the air out in my lungs without doing anything. “Ah, I mean, you are to stay on the room prepared for you tonight. It will be more comfortable to sleep in bed than in this small cot. Can you walk now?” I nodded as I really don’t know what to say. I rose from the cot and my feet touched the cold floor beneath me. He was intently looking at my every move like a predator to his prey and it gives me this suffocating feeling. When I started to walk towards the door, it was the time that he was out of his trance and noticed it. “Oh, you don’t have any footwear. Wait…” he went to the side and grabbed a fluffy slippers. It has this fur-like material that is colored power blue and there are a few butterfly embroidered to it. I accepted the slipper and went on walking whilst following his lead. We came across what seemed to be a hallway. I saw the Medical Building has this sort of covered walk that connects it to the pack house. When we were inside the pack house in the receiving area I guess – I assumed since there were a lot of leather couches here and there – he looked at me. “We are going to the kitchen. I bet you are hungry.” He started walking and lead me to the wide kitchen where everything sparkled and glimmered under the lights. I was in awe. This type of kitchen, I have only seen it on movies. Just how rich is he? He let me sit on one of the chairs there and he started rummaging the fridge to get the ingredients and he started to prepare them. In no time, he set down two plates with butterfly praws with sweet and sour sauce and he managed to make some pasta (which by the way I don’t know the name since I never stumbled across it in my entire life) but all I know is it has a lot of cheese toppings. We started to eat in silence and he offered that he will clean up our used plates. “Can you wait for me for a while?” I just nodded at him and he started to open the faucet. While he was busy with the dishwashing, I took my sweet time to look around the place. I know that I will not be here anymore and my stay here is not bound to be a lifetime. The marble counters, the brass and leather seats, the table made from lacquered hard wood, there were kitchen gadgets made from latest technology such as the fridge, coffee maker, water dispenser, oven and etcetera. I know, if I have to live here it will be a privilage. I was pulled out from zoning out when I heard him faked a cough. I rose from my seat and decided to follow him until it lead us to the… I’m not sure if it is fourth or fifth floor. He opened a door which is a door to a wide room. He motioned me to come inside and I just followed him. I noticed a queen sized bed on the side which is adjacent to a wide window. There are significant amount of furnitures inside and the room design is impressive. “This will be your room while you stay here. I hope you find this room quite comfortable. Uhmm, my room is the one opposite to this. You can just come and tell me if you need something. I will leave you here then. Please rest,” he said then he walked out of the room and opened the door opposite to this room’s door and entered. I slowly closed the door and started to look around. I admit this room is twice bigger than my room at our old house. I walked over to the closet and found a few big tee-shirts and jogging pants. I grabbed a pair and headed to the bathroom to freshen up. I shed all my clothes and turned on the faucet and soon, water started cascading down from the shower head. I went under the constant water pour and thus soaking my body. As the water touched my skin, I can feel my sore muscles getting relaxed. I found a soap bar and a bottle of shampoo and I did not hesitate to use it. It has been a few days that I have taken a bath so I feel really dirty and itchy all over. I scrubbed my body and I saw that my wounds are fully healed now except the wound on my shoulder and my ankle which still shows dried blood. But I know it will heal fully within this week. I rinsed all the suds in my body and soon I felt lighter. I turned off the faucet and grabbed the fluffy white towel on the stainless bar situated near the door and I headed out and started to wear fresh clothes. I plopped down on the bed with the towel still in my head to dry my wet hair. I looked around and I am devising an escape plan from this place. I know that eversince the Alpha came, no one dared to hurt me but I can’t stay here forever. I have pressing matters on hand that I need to solve. I know that my parent’s case will not move. I sighed heavily then I found a few paper and pen on the table and I decided to write a note so that when the Alpha looks for me, he knnows that I have already went on my mission. To the Alpha, Hey, I don’t know your name so I don’t know how to address you other than your Alpha title. Thank you for being so kind to me (which I don’t know the reason by the way). I am so sorry for causing you trouble. I really mean no harm when I came here whilst crossing the bridge. I was just asking for some kind of help because I know that I am dying that day. I was just startled to be dragged to your dungeon. You know, I am writing this to let you know that I need to say my final goodbye to you. If you are reaading this, I am probably set on making my way bac to where I came from to solve the mystery behind the death of my adoptive parents. I just need to do it. You know, we happened to meet in a chaotic time. I hope that you will forgive me for trespassing your territory. Rest assured your secret will be safe on me. I won’t tell you my name because I am sure that it will just buried in the recess of your mind (and I still don’t trust you partly). Thank you again. I hope that God bestows you abundance for being kind to a stranger like me. After I wrote everything I want to say on a piece of paper, I placed it neatly on the bed so that he can find it first thing. I opened the window and braced myself as I jumped. I know it is like a suicide but I can’t risk going out from the main door. Suprisingly, I was not hurt a bit when I landed on the ground. I cautiosly walked towards the trees while taking cover from the bushes. I stopped and held my breath whenever I sense that there are someone who roams around. I even crawled on the ground when I saw a few men marching. I let out my breath when they were already meters away from me. They almost caught me. I was near the border, trees started to get thicker so I know that it will be easier for me to get out of here. I waited for a perfect timing and I successfully crept out without the guards noticing it. I smiled in relief as I ran across the clearing. I don’t feel happy that I have been out of that territory. But I just feel like I am now ready to face a new struggle in my life. A life wherein I need to be stronger to look for that particular entity that caused havoc in our life. With a new found strength, I continued to ran towards the direction where I came from but now, I am not following the river. I am following a certain path and I know it somehow leads to somewhere. I took a few turns here and there and I struggled to get passed on the logs that are on the way. I don’t really know why there are trees that are tanled here but I guess the jungle is a mystery that is yet to be unveiled. I continued my journey but I stopped midway when I heard a few snapping of twigs. I frantically looked around and I was just illuminated by the moon’s light when I see a moving figure in the shadow. I braced myself and I held my breath. I slowly crouched down and picked a branch about the size of my arm as my weapon. I know that it is not enough but atleast I can use this to get away… not. Standing in front of me is a wolf bigger than me with shining red eyes. I gulped as I panicked. It started to bare its fangs and it growled making me shiver a bit. The big beast started to take his time making way to me and he jumped. My eyes widened as I saw how he pinned my small frame on the ground. I closed my eyes as I feel his sticky saliva near my neck and I screamed as I tried to push him away. He was growling and snapping his teeth towards my neck, ready for a kill but I managed to shove the branch on his mouth so he can’t bite my neck. Clearly, it pissed him so he just throw the branch on the side and he raised his arm ready to pounce me.
