Chapter 1: Dinner

2060 Words
Noah's POV When I woke up everyone was busy tidying the house. When I reached the living room I saw my Mom... stepmother to be exact ordering our maids around. "I told you to sweep the floor didn't I, Amelia?" she asked in a strict tone. The woman named Amelia bowed her head and almost kissed my stepmother's shoes. "I am sorry Maam," she apologized. "Leave! You are ruining my morning," she said dismissing Amelia. When she turned her head in my direction her expression changed...a smile grace on her lips. "You're already awake Isaac," She walked towards me and kissed me on the cheek. "What's happening?" I asked my eyes directed at our maid busy cleaning the house. "Your father invited the Reagans for dinner to talk about Isaac's marriage with their only daughter Avery," My forehead creased when I heard those words. Confusion filled me because none of them told me about that marriage. "What do you mean marriage? Dad didn't tell me about that." "Yes, but Isaac knows, the real Isaac," "That is why none of you bother to tell me?" A sarcastic smile appeared on her lips and looked at me mockingly. "What for?" she asked then leaned closer. "You are only pretending to be my son anyway," she whispered before bringing her gaze back to my face. "You don't have to know everything Noah because all you have to do is follow our orders," she said then tapped my shoulders and walked away and upon hearing those words I was taken back to that night where I begged them to take me. ~Flashback~ Ten years ago I was lying on the floor filled with bruises. I can even taste blood in my mouth but it seems like it wasn't enough for him to stop. "I told you to make me dinner you asshole!" George, my step-father shouted as he continuously kicked me. "S-Stop please," I keep on begging but it seems like he didn't hear me at all. "You are a useless bastard!" he added then kicked me on my stomach once again. I felt like at any minute I would pass out. My vision got blurry and I was catching my breath. "George stop that," I heard my mother's voice but it wasn't filled with concern or worry. It sounded like she didn't care at all that her son was being beaten by her boyfriend. "Just die you f*****g bastard!" he shouted then kicked me once more before walking away. I curled in the corner with tears cascading down my face. "I told you to get rid of that bastard, didn't I?" George asked. "He is still my son George," my mother responded as if she cared about my existence when I knew the only reason she kept me here was because she needed someone to clean the house and cook them food. "I will kill that bastard, Ruth," George firmly uttered but my mother didn't say anything. When they were done eating their dinner they called me to clean the table. There was no food left for me so I settled with the scraps left on their plate. With tears cascading down my face I eat the crumbs of bread left on my mother's plate. That night I decided to end my misery. Carrying my biological father's address I plan to leave the house. I thought I could leave without them noticing but I was wrong because George saw me stepping out of my room carrying my backpack and paper in my hand. "Where are you going?" he asked looking at me intently. I swallowed hard when he started walking towards me. I closed my fist tightly when he grabbed my hair and made me look at him. "Where do you think you're going?" he asked while pulling my hair. "Just let me go," I begged and tried removing his hand but I was not strong enough to remove his hold. I kicked George's feet and when I did that he threw me into the corner. My head hit the wall and I can feel blood cascading down my forehead. Filled with anger and pain I stood and using all my remaining strength I pushed George until he fell on the stairs. My eyes widened when I saw George bathing in his blood. Fear and guilt consumed me. Thinking that I will end up in jail I run away holding a paper where my father's address is written. "Noah!" I heard my mother's voice shouting my name as I tried to get away from our neighbourhood. I continued running without looking back determined to leave the hell that I was in. Wearing worn-out clothes and a body filled with bruises I stood outside the gate of a huge house. I checked the address once again and when I confirmed that I was at the right place I pressed the doorbell. The rain started pouring but I didn't leave. I continued pressing the doorbell until a woman wearing a blue and white uniform opened the gate. "What do you need?" she asked when she saw me. "I am Henry Sullivan's son," I said while my body shivered because of coldness. I saw the maid's forehead crease. She looked at me intently then after a while her eyes widened. "You look exactly like Isaac," she said which confused me. After that, she left and started running inside the house. After a few minutes a man the same age as George appeared, and if my guess is right he is Henry Sullivan, my father. "What do you need young man?" he asked upon opening the gate. "Are you Henry Sullivan Sir?" I asked to confirm my assumption. He looked at me intently and then nodded his head. "Why?" he asked. "I am Noah Sullivan, my mother is Ruth Coleman. I am your son, Sir," I bravely uttered. He looked at me intently. He fell silent and stared at my face intently. "What do you need?" he asked and that question pains me. I can tell that he isn't happy that I am here. "I need a home Sir," I responded. "I'm sorry but I don't know you," he said. He was about to close the gate but I used my foot to block it. I kneeled on the cold ground and almost kissed his feet desperate to be recognised by my father. "I will do everything, Sir. I will clean your house, cook you food. I am good at washing laundry, I can do anything, Sir, just please take me," I begged with tears cascading down my face. Henry looked at me intently then after a while he looked at the maid beside him. "Let him in and make sure to clean him. I don't want any dirt inside my house," he ordered then walked away. I watched his back as he walked away. The maid helped me to stand up but my eyes were still fixated on my father who didn't even hug me when he saw me. I let out a deep breath and then wiped the tears from my face before following the maid. I stepped inside the huge house and the maid instructed me on what I should do. She pointed to the room on the corner and told me to take a shower there. She gave me a clean pair of clothes and a towel. I stepped inside the bathroom and I can't help but be amazed at how huge it is. George's house is big but not this huge. This house looks like a mansion or maybe it is indeed a mansion. While my eyes wandered on the things inside the bathroom I opened the shower and started cleaning myself. My body ached every time I rubbed soap on my skin because of the bruises George gave me but I ignored the pain and continued cleaning myself. It took me an hour to finish and when I was finally done I stepped out of the bathroom. "Sir Henry wants to talk to you," the maid informed me the moment I stepped out of the bathroom. I followed her as she walked and after a while, I saw my father sitting on a couch while holding a cup of tea. His head turned in my direction and as I walked towards him his eyebrows were furrowed. I occupied the seat across from him. I bowed my head when I could no longer take the intensity of his stare. "How old are you?" he asked. I let out a deep breath then lifted my head and met his eyes. "E-Eighteen Sir," I responded nervously. "Same age as Isaac," he said and curiosity filled me when I heard the name Isaac once again. "Who is Isaac?" I asked filled with curiosity. "My son. You will meet him later," he said so I simply nodded my head. My father scanned my whole body and while he looked at me his forehead creased. "Who did that?" he asked while looking at my bruises. "My mother's boyfriend," I responded. "I killed him," I added but it seems like he wasn't shocked at all. "That's the reason why you are here? To run from the crime you committed?" he asked. "I want to live a comfortable life...Dad," I responded with all honesty. My father looked at me intently then after a while he nodded his head. "I can give you that.... on one condition," he said and after that, we left the house. He started driving and after an hour we stopped at a huge hospital. "Why are we here?" I asked. "You will know later," he simply replied. My father stepped out of his car so I had no choice but to follow him. He receives greetings from different people and that is enough to prove that he is a powerful man. We took an elevator and he pressed the highest floor. When the elevator door opened we started walking in the quiet hallway and the only sound that I could hear was our shoes. After a while, we stopped at a heavily guarded door and the moment we stepped inside I saw a woman the same age as my mother sitting on a chair while holding the hand of a young man, I bet the same age as me. "Elizabeth," my father called the woman so she lifted her head and after a while her gaze shifted on me. "Who is he?" she asked while looking at me intently. "Noah, my son," my father confessed. A sarcastic smile appeared on the woman's lips. She stood up and then walked towards me. She held my face and studied every corner of it. "You cheated on me?" she asked then shifted his gaze on my father. "That was a mistake I never thought that I had a child with my secretary," the woman let out a crazy laugh. "How dare you!" the woman shouted and she was about to slap my father but my father held her hands firmly. "That was a long time ago Elizabeth and we can't do anything to change the past," my father firmly uttered while looking at the woman named Elizabeth. "But we can use him," my father uttered. "We can use Noah to pretend to Isaac," I am completely lost by the situation but I didn't bother to butt in. "What do you mean?" Elizabeth asked. My father loosened his hold and looked at Elizabeth softly. "Noah will pretend as Isaac," Elizabeth looked at my father with a creased forehead as if she still couldn't grasp my father's plan. "My siblings will make a fuss once they hear that my only heir is in a coma. They will pressure me to transfer Sullivan's business to their children and I won't let that happen. I won't let them rob what's mine," my father explained then looked at me. He held my shoulder firmly. "You are willing to do everything right?" he asked and without any hesitation, I nodded my head. "Pretend as Isaac and manage Sullivan's business, that's the only way you can stay in our household," he said so I nodded my head once again. That was the start of everything. That is the day I started living as Isaac. That is the day I became an impostor. ~End of Flashback~
