Avery's POV
Evening came and everyone became extra busy.
My Mom even called our family designer to help me prepare for the said dinner.
I opted for a simple look so I chose a knee-length satin dress paired with neutral-coloured heels.
I also applied light makeup on my face just enough to highlight my natural features.
When Mom and the designer were satisfied with the way I looked we left the mansion and headed towards the Sullivan.
During the whole drive, my father kept on reminding me to be on my best behaviour so all I did was nod my head.
After half an hour of driving, we stopped at a huge mansion.
We are greeted by maids perfectly lined up at the entrance of the mansion.
When we stepped out of the car the maids guided us inside until we reached the dining table.
When we stepped inside the dining table a man the same age as my Dad stood up and walked towards us.
A woman a bit older than my Mom followed him.
"I am glad you accepted my invitation, Christian," the man greeted then hugged my father shortly then kissed my mother's cheeks.
"Who am I to turn down your invitation Henry?" my father asked and it was followed by their laughter while I was standing beside my parents quietly.
"Henry I want you to meet my daughter, Avery Reagan," my father introduced me to them so I forced a smile and leaned closer to give them a quick kiss on their cheeks.
"Good evening Maam, Sir," Henry laughed when I formally greeted them.
"You can call us Mom and Dad, Avery," he said smiling at me warmly so I shyly nodded my head.
"You have grown into a fine young lady," a woman beside Henry commented.
"I'm Elizabeth by the way, I think you can't remember me since you were just ten I think when we last met," she said so I nodded my head once again.
"It's nice meeting you again...Mom" I shyly greeted.
Elizabeth smiled at me then turned her head on my parents.
"Come, let's have dinner," Elizabeth invited us so we settled at their dining table.
The maids started serving the food and while they were doing that my eyes were looking for someone...Isaac, the man that I will marry.
"Isaac has an urgent meeting but he will be here in a few," Elizabeth said. She probably noticed that I was looking for someone.
"Speaking of the devil," Elizabeth said then looked at someone behind me so I turned my head and my body froze when my eyes met a familiar pair of blue eyes.
He looked at me intently with his eyebrows furrowed.
"Good evening," he coldly greeted then approached his parents.
He kissed his mother on the cheeks then tapped his father's shoulder before facing us.
"I'm sorry for being late. I had an urgent meeting," he said with his eyes directly looking at my parents then after a while his gaze shifted on me so I felt uncomfortable.
My confidence was now gone and I had no idea what should I do.
The night that we shared flashed in my mind and it kept on replaying like a broken cassette.
My father stood up and then did a quick handshake with Isaac.
"It's fine Isaac. I am glad to see you again. I rarely see you in business gatherings since you are always out of the country, I bet you are busy enlarging your business," my father uttered.
Isaac smiled and then nodded his head.
"Yes Sir. I am planning to start a new business in Asia and I am hoping at the end of this year we can start our operation," he politely uttered.
My father looks pleased with Isaac's response.
After that, my father looked at me.
"I am sure you have already forgotten each other since you met a decade ago. This is my daughter, Isaac...Avery," I felt my hand getting cold but I acted all fine and hid my nervousness with a sweet smile.
I stood up and faced Isaac with fake confidence.
"Avery Reagan," I extended my hand.
Isaac looked at my hand then lifted his head and looked at me directly in the eyes.
"It's nice seeing you again...Avery," he said then took my hand.
I know he isn't talking about the meeting we had a decade ago, he is talking about last night.
"Same here," I simply responded then pulled out my hands from his hold.
I saw how his lips rose for a smirk but I ignored it and sat beside my mother.
I continued eating my food while they were talking about business which I can't relate to.
"I heard you are into modelling Avery," Elizabeth asked involving me in their conversation.
I lift my head and then politely nod.
"Yes Mom," I politely responded then simply smiled.
I saw the disappointment in Elizabeth's eyes and I felt embarrassed so I bowed my head and avoided her gaze.
"Avery is a fine young lady so it's reasonable that she does that kind of thing as a hobby, you are not planning to use modelling as your lifetime career right Avery?" Henry asked so I lifted my head and looked at him then politely nodded.
"Yes Dad," I simply responded.
Henry smiled at me but I could also see the disappointment in his eyes.
I understand why they felt that way. Their son is the CEO of a large-scale enterprise that supplies steel and iron in different countries. I heard that Isaac Sullivan also owns multiple businesses such as automobiles and security agencies no wonder his face looks familiar. Maybe I saw his face in a magazine or billboard as the most successful businessman.
We continued eating dinner. They tried to involve me in their conversation but all I did was nod my head unable to share any insights since I am clueless when it comes to business.
When the dinner was done the discussion continued to their living room and I felt suffocated so I excused myself and headed towards their garden.
I saw a wooden bench so I sat there and let the cold air brush my skin.
I thought I could finally have my peace but I was wrong because after a while I heard someone speak.
"I expected someone in my league but it turns out my parents have a bad taste when it comes to choosing a woman for me," he spoke and those words insulted my entire being.
I stood up and faced him filled with anger.
"I didn't force them to choose me so if you are disappointed, don't worry I feel the same," I said looking at him with gritted teeth and my fist tightly clenched.
Isaac looked at me intently his eyes filled with amusement.
He took a step closer then he cupped my face and looked at me directly in the eyes.
"You are not even good at giving pleasure, so what can you offer Avery?" he asked looking at me with raised eyebrows.
I clenched my fist even tighter unable to say any words.
Isaac sarcastically smile and that pissed me off even more.
When I could no longer take it I raised my hand and I was about to slap him when he attentively held my hand and squeezed my wrist.
His hold tightened and it started to hurt but he didn't seem to notice it.
"Don't you dare lay your hands on me, Avery? The last person who laid hands on me is now buried on the ground," he said and while saying those words I know that he isn't joking.
He looked too serious and that was enough to convince me that he was telling the truth.
"I will have the upper hand on our marriage whether you like it or not," he said then forcefully let go of my hands.
"If you want a peaceful marriage then don't you dare disobey me. I am not a patient person Avery," he said while looking at me directly in the eyes.
I got scared for my life when I heard those words.
I already know that marrying this man means stepping foot on hell.
Should I escape and save myself from this misery?
