Episode1
Samantha's POV "I said no!" Colton declined for the millionth time. Looking up from the files he was reading, he glared up at me, his eyes filled with annoyance and plain disbelief at my 'unreasonable request' as he would call it every time I brought up the topic. "Why would you keep declining, I'm sure it would not hurt to try!" I pushed further not wanting to give up. "And why do you keep insisting we get a surrogate when I told you I'm not comfortable with it? I don't want another woman carrying my child when I have a wife. How many more times do you need me to explain it to you?" He asked with an irritated tone, making me sigh helplessly. "What do you think the world would think of me? The media? "The famous billionaire Colton Anderson could not have a child of his own so he employed a surrogate ' I'm sure that would give the media a field day at work!" He continued angrily. "This has nothing to do with the media or the people. This is about us, Colton!" I exclaimed, feeling annoyed that other's opinions always come first for him. "I'm not interested. We can find some other means," he breathed out. "That's the only option we are left with, Colton. You don't want adoption, why not try a surrogate!" I reasoned carefully. "Because of my inability to get pregnant, your father keeps on pressuring and insulting you. How do you expect me to feel?" I continued. From his expression, I could already tell this conversation was going to end the same way the others we've had on this topic ended, but I wasn't one to give up halfway. I'm tenacious enough to keep going until I can no longer go. Why else would I continue holding on till now? Colton and I have been married for the past five years. We both met in college, where I studied business management with him as my senior. We met due to a chance encounter and as cliche as it may sound, it was on a rainy day with both of us running late for our classes, and we've been together ever since. Since I got married to him, I've had to endure lots of insults and ridicule from his family because of my humble background. Colton Anderson, my husband, is the first child of Baron Anderson and the youngest billionaire in the country. Being from a family with a generation of wealth, a lot was expected of him, and one of them was his marrying a woman who matched his status and elegance. Imagine the horror when they found out he wasn't going to meet their expectations. I was called 'Gold Digger' 'Leech' 'Peasant' 'Cheap' and a lot more, as they all thought that I married him for his money. They couldn't be so wrong. We fell in love. As absurd as that might sound, we both fell in love, and when I found out about his background, I tried to run, but I couldn't. He was just too good. But I guess the heavens were also not in support of our marriage since we didn't have a child for five years, making the ridicule and contempt increase by a whole lot. It wasn't that I didn't conceive; it's that I did, but none stayed. I had miscarriages, and the one I managed to give birth to lost her life after two weeks due to a heart disease. My husband, through all this, stood by my side, loving and taking care of me physically and mentally, trying to show me I wasn't alone. But how much more of his care can I continue to take without feeling guilty about not being able to fulfill my basic duty as a wife? He dropped the files and turned to me. "I've told you time and again that I will handle my father, and you take care of yourself. I'm his first son; there is no way he would overboard with his threat," he reasoned, and I shook my head. "You are his first son, not the only son. I understand you are trying to protect me, but allow me to protect you too. Please. It's just a surrogate, and the child will have your genes," I pressed, hoping that I could finally hit the right spot today. Knowing he wasn't going to get out of it, he stood up and kissed my forehead before walking into his study to continue his work. "You should go to sleep. I have lots of work tomorrow," he said, closing the door behind him. I let out a frustrated sigh as I relaxed into the chair, irritation boiling inside of me. I wasn't just getting impatient for no reason; it was because of the threat I had received from his mother during the last dinner party at their home. Going to his family house always leaves me in a state of depression, but if I didn't go, it would be another problem on its own. "What should I do?" I muttered, racking my brain for any plan that might work. "If I'm unable to give him a child, I'll be forced out of my marriage, and he won't agree to a surrogate or an adoption. What am I supposed to do?" *** "I can see you are still here, feed on my son's money like the shameless leech that you are," Mrs. Anderson scowled as she walked into our home the following morning, her eyes filled with contempt and disgust as she gave me a once-over before sitting on the couch. "Good morning, mom. I wasn't expecting you to visit today," I smiled, ignoring her attitude as I said opposite her. She glared at me and yelled, "How dare you sit around me? You peasant! Get up!" "How don't know how my son manages to tolerate your horrid smell around him all day," she added Taking a deep breath, I stood up without complaints. I was already used to it. This has always been the way she treats me since I got married to her son. She never ceased to tell me how much of a disgrace I am to her son. Or how much she loathes my existence. Even then, I try as much as possible to accommodate her, and that's because I love her son. There are times when I imagine that if I had truly married her son, would I have stayed? With my ego? I doubt I would. "Where is Colton?" She demanded coldly, and I frowned. "You know too well that he would not be home at this time. He is at the company," I replied calmly, but something about my reply seemed to have angered her. Her face flushed in her with her eyes narrowing at me. "Are you giving me attitude right now?" "I'm not! You asked for Colton, and I told you he wasn't home!" She scoffed and picked up her bag. "It doesn't matter even if you are giving me an attitude. Your days in his home are numbered. You can begin packing your bags. Not that you have much anyway," she mocked, leaving me embarrassed and confused. "What do you mean?" I asked, and she laughed. "What do you think I meant, you barren witch? Since you can't give my son a child, we found someone who could."
