Reunited after seven years
"Yes, Celia, I'll be at the school this afternoon to see where I work." My friend Celia and I were talking on the phone, her voice was so indistinct that I had to hold the phone closer to my ear. I stepped forward while holding my coffee cup. There's an electric noise coming from the phone and I frown at my new cell phone. My full attention was focused on the phone. By the time I noticed the figure in front of me, it was too late. My coffee spilled all over the white shirt of the man in front of me. A whole cup of freshly made hot coffee. I knew I was in trouble and immediately apologized. "Oh, I'm so sorry." I looked to the empty coffee cup in my hand and then back up at the man. His shirt had been clean, but now there was a large, abrupt brown color on his chest. The fabric of the shirt was flat, and it had only been mere seconds that had passed before the coffee had immediately spread into a large area. It was obvious that his clothes were worth a lot of money. "I'm really very sorry, I was just on the phone with a friend so I didn't notice you. If you don't mind, I'll go to the next store now and buy you a new shirt." The man was very tall, and as I finished my sentence, I looked up to see his expression. When I saw his face, I froze. The man was very handsome. His features were three-dimensional and his eyes were a deep blue color that looked mysterious. His lips were a little thin, giving the impression that he was cold as a person. "You're very good looking." He realized I was concentrating on his looks and looked at me as well. I reacted that this was not the right time to compliment him and apologized, "I'm sorry sir, I didn't mean to offend you." "It's okay." His voice was low, like an ancient bell in a church, calming. "And your shirt?" He seemed to notice my soiled shirt at that moment. He lowered his head and looked at it. "Not a big deal, I'll just go home and wash it." He kept looking at my face as he spoke. I felt his gaze and wondered a little. Was there something wrong with the clothes I wore today, or the makeup I put on? Still, I felt sorry and insisted on going to the store to purchase a new outfit for him. He was dressed appropriately and wearing a tie, so he must be up to something important and couldn't let my mistake hold up his plans. He didn't refuse me this time, and after I had wiped the coffee off the floor, I walked out the door with him. He didn't say another word for the rest of the way, just kept looking at me with that strange gaze. "Do you remember me?" I picked out a shirt that fit him and went to the checkout line. While waiting in line, he suddenly asked me. "What did you say?" I didn't hear him, so I asked him, "Pardon?" "Do you remember me?" The man said it again and I heard him clearly this time. I wondered, "Sir, have we met before?" He acted like he was once very close to me. I had a slight familiarity with his appearance. But after a long time of careful recollection, I really couldn't find any memories related to this man. "Cora." He suddenly called out my name. I tensed up. I didn't know him, but he knew my name. He could see my nervousness and uneasiness and reached out and pointed to my clothes. I was wearing a long white skirt with a short top over it today. My eyes followed his finger down to the dress, and that's when I saw the business card with my name printed on the chest. I'm a writer and I just got off the plane this morning, which I think I forgot to take off when I was attending a lecture in another city. "Relax, Ms. Cora, I'm not a bad person." I sighed in relief and felt embarrassed. "I'm really sorry, but sir, I don't think I really know you." "Well, that's okay, maybe I'm mistaken." The line finally got to me and I checked out and walked with him. "Ms. Cora, why did you come to this city?" "I came here to be a college teacher." I handed him the bag with my clothes in it. "A college teacher? Which college?" "Selbana College of Science and Technology." I smiled and said the name of the university, "It's also my alma mater." "What a coincidence, I used to go to school there too." The man took the bag. "Aren't you going to go change your shirt into one?" The man smiled, he was almost always silent, and it was the first time I had ever seen him smile. His looks were just outstanding, and despite his air of coldness, when he smiled it felt like a breath of fresh air. He buttoned up his suit jacket. I really couldn't see the coffee stain anymore. "You see, Ms. Cora, that settles it." He smiles gently, and holds out his hand toward me. "Can I invite you to join me for a walk along the river? --I'll carry your bag." I thought for a moment, and then handed him the bag. After all, I had just soiled his clothes, and a walk together wasn't really an excessive request. "My pleasure." He took the bag over and we walked together towards the river, which was not far away. "Where was I just talking about? It seems like college." I listened quietly. "I met my true love in college, and it was literally the happiest thing that happened to me in four years." "What about you, Ms. Cora?" He finished, turning his head to look at me, "Was there anything special about your college experience?" I looked at the rushing river and whispered. "It's quite a fate." I smiled bitterly, "I met my 'true love' in college too, but unfortunately it didn't end well." "Why do you say that?" The man seemed curious about the matter. I remembered again what happened on prom day. Five years ago. "Cora, can you tell me why you're mad?" I hung up the phone and dropped to the floor. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. My boyfriend was with my best friend, Aria. We grew up together, a relationship where we could wear the same dress. He was standing in the doorway of the room with his arm around her waist while her hands were resting on his shoulders. "You'll allow me to do what I want, won't you?" Aria uttered with a smile. "Of course, after all I would want you to do that." Morgan said. I covered my mouth with my hands and crouched behind the security door. Aria was surprisingly with Morgan and was talking and laughing, they seemed to be on good terms. But she told me once that she hated Morgan the most. I heard the door open and then someone walked in. I came out of the safe passage when I saw that there was no one in the hallway. I stood in the doorway of that room, then listened to the sounds in the room. The sound of a woman gasping, and the sound of bodies hitting each other. The door was made of wood, and I couldn't hear the words of the people inside. But a few words came out. "Don't let her know," "Child," "I don't even hate you." I'm an adult, of course I knew what they were doing. By the words they uttered, I was able to guess what was happening. Aria was pregnant, and the baby was Morgan's. And she never hated him. These sentences were like knives in my heart and I could hardly breathe. I didn't dare to think about how long they had been in this relationship. I left that hotel and went back home. Tears ran down my cheeks and gathered on the wooden floor. Fuck. I loved Morgan that much. I knew all his secrets. Even when he was at his worst, I was the one who stayed by his side. My heart told me it was in pain right now. It was nighttime when this happened, and now he's calling me and asking me why I'm angry. I saw this with my own eyes. I don't want to talk to him, I don't want to hear his explanation. Morgan still kept calling me. I was in an irritable mood. I sent him a message. "Morgan, we broke up!" Then I turned my phone off and started unpacking. I had just moved into this apartment half a month ago, and Morgan was busy preparing for prom, so I didn't tell him the address of the apartment. He might have asked one of my classmates, but none of that mattered. I decided to leave the city and go to graduate school in another state. I never wanted to see Morgan again in my life. The next day, I made a flight out of Selbana. "It was outrageous, and I couldn't even imagine him being such a lightweight." Even though five years have passed, I still feel angry when I mention it. I finish telling the story and then go to see the man's reaction. The look on his face is hard to describe. It was as if he had just learned over and over again the math problem that had plagued him for years, and in the end the math came out to be one plus one. Or like being in a fight and realizing your opponent is a ball of cotton. And in his expression, I saw a bit of celebration and relaxation. "Why are you looking at me like that?" "Nothing, Ms. Cora, I just thought of something." He stopped and looked at the sky. "Miss Cora, if you ever meet Morgan again ...... I mean your frivolous ex-boyfriend, what would you do?" "What would I do?" I sneered, "I'd punch his ears off and throw him in the Saurian River, of course." I finished the sentence in exasperation and then asked. "I don't know your name right now, may I ask your name?" The man had an odd expression. "My name is Mor ...... I'm Adric, and I'm glad to know you as a friend, Ms. Cora."
