Kate’s POV “It’s been almost an hour,” Jason whines after what feels like a lifetime of driving in silence. “Aren’t we there yet?” Alex glances around and sees her exit, signaling and pulling out toward Oakfield. “Thanks,” she mutters. “Who called the motel?” “Me,” Milo says, lifting the phone book. He’s sitting next to me in the back. “It’s a Motel 24, and they said they’d leave out a key. Took the credit card number.” “Motel 24,” Alex repeats, looking around. Her eyes settle on a run-down, rickety old motel down the street. She pulls in and we get out, eager to stretch our legs for the first time in an hour. I suppose we’ll have to deal with longer rides than that fairly soon. Jason heads for the trailer and curses when he sees that Brooke is asleep. “Should we wake her up?” he ask
