Kate’s POV
Brooke isn’t happy about Alex’s plan to stop at the barn, and for the most part, neither is Jason—at least, not until he sees how into it Milo is.
Typical.
After an annoying amount of bickering, Brooke agrees just so we can get on the road. She gives Jason a kiss as he heads out for the Lexus, telling him that she wants to stick with me for a while. At first I think I’m just her excuse not to have to talk to him, but then she pulls me aside.
“You okay?” I ask her. “We really should go.” Jason’s Lexus is already rolling out of the driveway.
She’s still shaking. “I know. I just wanted to say... if you want to say goodbye to your mom… you can.”
I’m not sure I heard her properly. “What?”
“I just want to give you the option. No pressure. Take it or leave it.”
