CHAPTER 19.
Present
Jeff looked at Tami as she was quiet in the car. She did not utter a single word. He undid the first button of his shirt. He had told Klaus to come pick her up from the hospital but he had insisted he had an important hit that day, which was an obvious lie and Steve had insisted on interrogating the Monkey devil himself. In all essence they had wanted him to come and get Tami himself.
Tami reached for the radio as the silence in the car was deafening. It was so bad that it made her want to jump out of the car. The radio did nothing to help as Shawn Mendes stitches was playing and when she changed that station it was a Spanish love song. She left it at least she did not understand it but she remembered Jeff could speak Spanish. She sighed and switched it off as the silence continued.
Jeff sat there wondering what was running through her mind at this moment but he got nothing to give him an answer. She just sat in her chair silent, with her gaze focused outside the window.
“Thank you” Tami began “for bringing my parents to the hospital. It was very thoughtful of you.”
“You are welcome” Jeff replied “They are leaving tomorrow.”
“Yeah they told me” Tami replied “I told my dad to buy me a ticket also”
Jeff turned his gaze to her “What why?”
“I am leaving with them. I want to go back to my life in New York”
Jeff nodded, he understood her but he had to ask, “A life without me, well life before me. You are going be a cop again? Stop bad guys like me?”
However his words came out more spiteful than casual. It was hard to be casual right now when all he felt was anger towards the fact that she was actually leaving him.
Jeff wanted to not be selfish, he wanted to do right by her and let her go but keeping her alive was his first prerogative among others, a duty he could not fulfil if she was all the way in New York.
“Jeff stop being a child” Tami replied leaning her head on the window frame of the car. Her gaze remained outside the car.
Jeff squeezed the steering till his hands were almost white. He let out a sigh, as if that one sigh had managed to pull out some of his anger. “Fine, it’s over. We are no longer together.”
The words stung as Tami heard them come from Jeff’s lips. Why did it hurt? She wondered after all, that was what she wanted, wasn’t it?
“But you can't leave” Jeff added “At least not now please.” Once again his words relayed too much if his emotions. Rather than the word coming out as a plea it sounded like an order.
He was a trained assassin for Christ said, he could lie to millions and not get caught but Tami was his bane, she was the exception to the rule of generality.
Tami could not believe her ears. Jeff was full of s**t and she was ready to spit out the venom in her mind as she turned to him in rage mode. He had no right whatsoever to tell her what she could and could not do. “And why is that” She asked, the anger evident in her voice but still calm “Why can I not go home?”
“Just listen to me please. Even if for the last time Tami, you cannot go home” Jeff replied it was more like a plea than an order now.
Tami narrowed her eyes as his tone caught her worry. It was unlike him to sound so weak. “Is something wrong Jeff?” She asked “Are you okay?”
“I am fine” Jeff replied
“You are lying” Tami replied simply “What is wrong Jeff?”
Jeff sighed, she just got out of one situation which almost claimed her life and the life of their unborn child, how was he going to explain to her that there was another? It would not only put her in panic but give her more reasons to leave him.
“It’s nothing Tami, I just don’t want you to leave without us working it out.”
“That is just so f*****g selfish. Do you know half of the trauma I went through?” Tami shook her head at him looking away from him and outside the window, tears ran down her cheeks as she sobbed silently “I am leaving and that's, that”
Jeff wanted to argue but it was of no use. Tami was belligerent when it came to a decision she had whole heartedly made and she would not back down no matter what, so he saved his speech and continued the once awkward silent drive in a new air of bitter silence till they got to their destination.
☆☆☆
Tami could not wait go get out of the car once they got to the house. It was massive and beautiful. She looked at him and he managed a smile which did not reach his eyes.
Jeff had wanted this to be his wedding gift to her. A new house worth a whole lot of money. The first time she was supposed to see this place was after their wedding which eventually never occurred.
“It was supposed to be our wedding gift. From me to us.” Jeff pointed out “I hope you like it.” Not that it mattered anyway.
“It’s beautiful Jeff.” Tami said “I would have loved to live here with you.”
Jeff refrained from replying as he walked up the steps to the house. Tami followed behind him. The interior was amazing. The floors were grey marble but there was little or no furniture. Jeff could read her mind so he replied.
“I thought you would decorate it after the wedding.” She averted her gaze from him back to the house. “Let’s go upstairs, you must be tired”
They walked up the spiral staircase, this house was beautiful, like those seen in expensive music videos or movies depicting rich lifestyle. Jeff guides her through the hallway, they stopped at a big white door with intricate designs.
“This is our” He paused “the master bedroom just take a shower. I will order take out.”
Tami nodded loathing the way they were now subjected to talking like strangers. She went into room and he closed the door behind her leaving her alone.
The bed in the centre of the room was covered with grey sheets. It contrasted with the white a gold decor of the room. Had he furnished only the bedroom in anticipation for their wedding night? Tami wondered. She giggled, it was something Jeff could do. She ran her fingers along the sheets, how good it would have been to feel Jeff’s fingers run on her skin with her back on the soft sheets. How was she going to survive one night in the house with him all alone?
She shredded her clothes and went into the bathroom. It was just as beautiful as the rest of the house, switching on the shower, she washed herself clean. The big mirror in the bathroom drew her attention as she looked at herself sideways rubbing at the almost invisible bump on her stomach. She smiled as she looked at it. It brought her joy knowing, she had Jeff's seed in her body, growing and thriving. It was all that ever wished for, but her actions were to save her child and she was trying hard not to back down.
She heard a knock on the door, wrapping a towel around her body she went to open it up. It could be only one person at the door.
“Hey” He said “I just wanted to change up and also tell you that the closet is by the right and the shelves and cupboards to the left are yours.” He stopped “I could just show you”
Tami nodded as she let him in. He walked to a door by right side of the room and opened it. Tami followed him and tilted her head as she looked at the big walk in closet. She watched him walk to the left side of the closet and open a drawer. He pulled out sweat pants and a muscle t and silently walked pass her leaving her alone in the closet.
Tami moved to her own side and looked at opened the closets. They were all filled with clothes and the shoe rack below was filled with all sorts. She stepped out of the closet to meet him.
“It was supposed to be another wedding present” Jeff said. Tami turned to him still quiet “I wanted everything to be perfect.”
Tami looked back at the closet. This man was making things hard for her on purpose and she did not like it. He was just too amazing and she knew that fact more than anything in the world. Jeff existed the closet and Tami unwrapped her towel.
“I was thinking we c...” Tami turned around and Jeff paused as he took in her naked form.
He had not seen her body in almost a month and lord knows he missed her. Her pierced buds stood erect calling out to him, those n****e piercing were the only piercings she had never removed, he wanted to run his hands all over her body. The man down below had the same idea. He made steps closer to her.
Tami froze. She wasn’t used to covering herself before Jeff but now that thing were over, were they really, she was supposed to cover up. Her head thought to pull her towel closer but she did not move as frozen under his intense gaze.
Jeff would have stepped back and controlled himself but then she did the one thing that always f****d him up. Tami pulled her bottom lip between her teeth and that was all the cue he needed.
Jeff smashed his lips until Tami's. Tami pressed herself against him kissing him back. She was against the closet and Jeff continued to kiss her, there was a certain urgency and need in his kiss. It was like he had hungered for her lips and had been starved but now he was going to take all he could. He was a glutton for her.
Tami was trying to think straight but Jeff's lips on her made it hard. Jeff pulled her n****e into his lips and bit into it.
“f**k!” Tami moaned “Stop, Jeff”
Jeff hoisted her up on the closet. Tami tried to focus on stopping this. She wanted this, she needed this.
“Jeff Stop!” Tami said trying to sound stern. She felt his lips leave her n****e and slowly he set her on her feet again.
Jeff held her chin but Tami shut her eyes she did not want to look at him.
“Look into my eyes and tell me you want me to stop.” Jeff requested.
Tami opened her eyes and looking into his, no words left her lips. Jeff came down on her lips again the kiss was slow this time. Tami revelled in this kiss, it intoxicated her but she willed herself as she pushed him away.
“Go!” It sounded more like a plea “Get out!”
Jeff obeyed walking out of the closet. Tami sighed as she sank to the floor, her whole body stung from his unfinished touch.

Jeff smiled as Tami gave him a taste of her chili sauce. He loved her chili sauce especially because of the tiny chunks of meat she shredded into it.
“Spicy” He replied savouring in the taste. Jeff licked his lips “I want more”
Tami laughed, she loved good weekends like this when it was just her and Jeff. He was actually hardly ever around. He could disappear for a month, come back and stay for one month and be gone again, which is why she made sure to give him the best whenever he was at home but it was not going to last long, this was confirmed once his phone went off.
Jeff picked up his phone and answered his called.
“Talk to me” He said into the phone. After much talking from the person on the other line and non from him Jeff finally replied “Send a Chopper to Miami for Washington the day after tomorrow”
Tami sighed as he dropped the phone. She was already too used to these moments, kissing him goodbye was the best option for now. She wrapped her hands around him.
“I am so s...”
“Don’t apologise” Tami said cutting him off “I know my boyfriend is a busy man”
Jeff smiled “I love you”
“I know” She pecked his cheek
