"Yes, Sir, I'll bring you the reports," Treasy said, picking up the file from her desk. "Thank you, Ms. Adams." She smiled politely and nodded before leaving the cabin. Just then, she heard her phone ring and saw it was an unknown number. "Hello?" she answered, waiting for the person to speak. "Ms. Adams." The voice seemed familiar, but she couldn't pin it down. "Yes.Who is it?" she asked, hearing some shuffling on the other side. "Tyron Harrington" She inhaled sharply upon hearing that name. After that day at the diner, she had searched him on Google. He was one of the richest businessmen in the world, and his good looks added to his success had made him quite a favorite in the media. "Mr. Harrington. How may I help you?" Treasy was confused as to why a man like him would call her, especially since they had only met once, about two months ago. "I have something to discuss with you. Can I see you at my office tomorrow?" His words piqued her curiosity. "What is it that needs to be discussed?" she asked, hearing him sigh on the other end. "I'm afraid it can't be discussed over the phone." Treasy hated this. She hated when people did this, saying they had something to tell but then refusing to say it. Didn't they understand this caused a strange curiosity and unrest in people? "I would have met you at the diner, but I learned that you left your job there. I could have visited you at your house, but I'm afraid you wouldn't like to have the discussion in front of your parents." Why was she getting the feeling that it wasn't something good? "You're scaring me. What is the matter?" she asked once more, hoping he would reveal it, but... "I'll tell you once we meet." Treasy sighed in annoyance and tapped her right foot on the floor. "So, will I see you at my office?" "Yes, but not tomorrow. Today itself." She needed to sleep at night, and her curiosity had reached a level where it wouldn't allow her to. She needed to know the matter as soon as possible. "I don't mind. I'll send you my car—" he started, but she cut him off. "No, just send me the address. I'll take a cab." She wasn't going to get into the car of a stranger. "As you wish. When should I be expecting you?" she looked at her watch. "Around four." "Well, see you then." She hummed before hanging up. Looking back at the file, she pressed her lips together, thinking of the amount of work she had to complete if she wanted to leave early and meet Tyron Harrington Getting out of the cab, Treasy walked straight into the Enterprises. "Excuse me, I want to meet Tyron Harrington ," she said to the receptionist. "Do you have an appointment?" The receptionist wasn't as expectedly rude. "Uhm, no. He just asked me to come to his office." The receptionist nodded. "Can I get your name?" the receptionist asked. "Treasy Adams," she replied, speaking over the phone before hastily hanging up. "Mr. Harrington is expecting you." Thanking her, Treasy took the elevator to the required floor. She knocked on the door to the CEO's cabin and heard a gruff "Come in." Upon entering, she saw him typing on his laptop, his eyes trained on the screen. "Mr. Harrington," she greeted. He looked up at her and checked her out from head to toe before acknowledging her. "Ms. Adams," he nodded curtly and gestured for her to take a seat. His unfaltering gaze made her a little nervous. She consciously took a seat and pushed her hair behind her shoulders. "You had something to say?" she asked once she realized he wasn't speaking. "Yes, and it's quite important." She nodded. He picked up a file from his desk and slid it towards her. "Read it," he said when she raised her brows questioningly. Taking the file in her hand, she read through the pages, and to say she was appalled was an understatement. It was a marriage contract with her name in it! "What's this?" she slammed the file on the desk. "Marriage contract?" His stupid words further fueled her irritation. "I know that. What does this mean?" she gritted through her teeth. "This means that we are going to be married for a year and—" he began, but she cut him off. "I can read. I am asking what is this nonsense? Is this some kind of joke? Why in the world would I marry you?" she looked at him incredulously. "Because I want you to." He spoke those arrogant words with utmost coldness. "That's bold of you to assume that I will do as you say." She glared at him. Of course, she wasn't going to agree to this stupid thing, but her curiosity got the better of her. She couldn't help but ask the reason. "Where is Aby's mother?" "She isn't in the picture." Treasy wanted him to elaborate, but judging by his cold and clipped answer, she assumed he wasn't going to. So she moved on to her next question. "If you don't want to stay in this marriage, then why marry at all?" Really? Why did she even need to know why? Her curiosity! "My grandfather's will." This further messed up her mind. "Huh? Your grandfather asked you to marry me?" She was so damn confused. She couldn't make sense of the situation, and his cold, indifferent attitude wasn't helping. "No. He didn't know you, but he mentioned in his will that I need to marry and settle down in order to get his chain of hotels." "And you chose me? Not that it matters, but I would still like to know why in the world? For all I know, you could easily get yourself a model or an actress because you're rich, you're famous." He nodded. "And being famous comes with a price. Marrying a model or an actress is going to attract more media attention, which is undesired. Besides, I would want someone with a clean reputation who wouldn't tarnish my image publicly, and you have the cleanest record, I might say." She blinked multiple times as the information settled in. "Cleanest record? You run a background check on me?" To say she was angry was an understatement. What kind of man was he? "This is so cheap! You're so cheap!" Her words visibly didn't bother him as he leaned back in his seat, the same stoic expression on his face. "I need to know everything about the person before I involve my name with hers." "The agreement is for a year, after which we will get a divorce. We will tell everyone that we couldn't adjust and have a mutual divorce." He shrugged like it was the simplest thing on Earth. She couldn't help but chuckle at that. "What's funny?" His fist under his chin supported his head while he looked at her. "You! This whole stupid contract thing!" She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. "Well, I have heard enough of your bullshit. I'm sorry for asking so many questions, blame my curiosity, but now I will see myself out." With this declaration, she stood up to leave. "It's funny that you think you have a choice," he said. He too rose and adjusted his blazer. "I do, as a matter of fact," she said, folding her arms across her chest and looking straight into his eyes. "Not really," he stated confidently. "And who exactly told you that?" she snapped, her anger getting the better of her at his calm attitude. "Now that you know I have run a background check on you, you should also know that I have learned about your mothr's medical condition. Your job supports your family. Am I right, Ms. Adams?" He cockily tilted his head to the side, maintaining eye contact with her. "Are you threatening my job?" she asked, wide-eyed, to which he shrugged. "You see, I have connections. I just have to pull a few strings and you would find yourself out of your current workplace and unable to land a job in any respectable firm." She couldn't believe this guy was practically threatening her! "You can't be serious!" She was absolutely horrified by this man. "I never joke." He smirked, and she wanted nothing more than to punch that smirk off his face. "It's ridiculous!" She threw her hands up in the air in frustration. "Well, I don't find it ridiculous. Your mother will be treated by the best of doctors, and I'll bear all the costs." She inhaled and exhaled a number of times to control her anger. Shouting and creating a scene just wasn't her thing. "I haven't met a man as pathetic as you in my whole life! You are offering me money to be your wife for a year?" Her voice was calm, giving nothing of the anger bubbling inside her. "Don't act like you don't want money. Isn't it what everyone wants?" For a second, irritation and annoyance flashed in his eyes. Just when she thought he couldn't be any more of an asshole, he proved her wrong. "Think what you want. I can't believe this!" She shook her head, chuckling humorlessly to herself. "Well, then sign the papers and we are good." He spoke, his face back to being cold. "I have a condition." He raised a brow at her before a mock smile graced his lips. "Not that you really have a say in this, but still, let's hear you out." She rolled her eyes at his arrogant attitude but didn't comment on it. "We won't consummate this marriage," she said firmly, and he looked shocked for a fraction of a second before he composed himself, and the cold look came back to his face. "We won't. I am not too keen for s*x with you." He spat those words like even the idea of s*x with her made him nauseous. She ran a hand through her hair and, realizing she had no other options, signed the papers. "One more thing. This stays between us. Not a word about it to anyone." He warned her seriously. She nodded in agreement, but that apparently didn't satisfy him. "Of course. I don't want my parents to know about this. Had my father known of this vile agreement, he would never allow me to go on with this." She was burning a hole in his head with her glare. "Wear it." He slid a black velvet box towards her with minimum emotions on his face. With a bit of shaky hands, she opened it. Inside was the most beautiful solitaire ring she had ever seen, but ironically, it wasn't the most beautiful moment of her life as everyone wishes it to be. Swallowing the lump in her throat, she slid it on, which fitted just perfectly. She didn't want to know where his ring was. The only thing she wanted was to get away from there. "You may leave now," he said, going back to his seat. "Gladly." She stomped out of his cabin, cursing him in her mind.
